SOFTBALL

CLARION 2, FRANKLIN 1

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Jordan Best scored from second on a one-out error in the top of the sixth inning to help visiting Clarion edge Franklin, 2-1.

Best started the inning with a walk and stole second before scoring when Tori Vega reached on an error.

In a pitcher’s duel, Kait Constantino outpitched Gracie Stryffeler.

Constantino went seven innings of two-hit ball allowing one unearned run while striking out 15 and walking no one.

Stryffeler was nearly as good giving up two unearned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out eight in seven innings in the circle.

Carly Best had a double for Clarion.

ChristaRose Hawke had a pair of hits and a run scored for Franklin with Stryffeler adding an RBI.

CRANBERRY 10, COCHRANTON 0

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Andrea Watson threw a four-hit shutout to lift Cranberry to a season-opening 10-0 win at Cochranton.

Watson struck out five and didn’t walk a batter while also going 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI on offense.

Rachel McCauley drove in three runs for the Berries and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored with Malliah Schreck going 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.

Also for Cranberry, Kaylie Bruce was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Maddie Cornelius scored twice.

Lexie Moore had a double for Cochranton while Megan Wright took the loss going four innings allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out one.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 10, BRADFORD 0, 5 INNINGS; PUNXSUTAWNEY 17, BRADFORD 0, 3 INNINGS

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Punxsutawney swept a season-opening doubleheader from visiting Bradford winning 10-0 in five innings and 17-0 in three innings.

Elliott Ferrent tossed a five-inning perfect game in the opener striking out nine.

In that contest, Madi Shiock and Madilyn Fye each had a pair of RBIs for the defending PIAA Class 4A champions, Grace Aikens doubled and Riley Presloid and Shiock had triples. Presloid, Shiock and Alyssa Fairbanks each scored two runs.

Emily Wagner took the loss for Bradford.

In the second game, Aikens and Ferrent both had doubles while Ferrent and Sarah Weaver each drove in three runs as did Mya Phillips, who was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored. Aikens was 2-for-3 with two runs scored with Weaver, Hartman, Presloid and Noella Hartzfeld also scoring twice for the Lady Chucks.

Ferrent and Shiock combined on the shutout with Ferrent going a scoreless inning striking out one and Shiock going two innings allowing two hits while striking out five.

Katie Work and Olivia Angell had singles for Bradford. Adrienne Angell took the loss.

OSWAYO VALLEY 15, SMETHPORT 8

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Macy West went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and an RBI to help Oswayo Valley to a 15-8 win over visiting Smethport.

Macy West was one of four Green Wave hitters who had multiple-hit games, including one of three with a three-hit contest.

Karina West was 3-for-4 with a triple, four runs scored and four RBIs, Kelsey Turk was 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and two RBIs and Laya Phillips was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Mandi Smith added a 1-for-3 day with two walks and three runs scored for the Green Wave with Skyler Hohenwarter also scoring twice.

Samantha Tanner was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs to lead Smethport, while Rylee Crowley was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Baylea Arnold drove in two runs.

Karina West got the win going seven innings allowing eight runs, two earned, on seven hits and seven walks while striking out 17.

Coryn McClain took the loss.

ST. MARYS 3, DUBOIS 1

DUBOIS, Pa. – Maura Fledderman scattered four hits over seven innings of work to help St. Marys to a 3-1 win at DuBois.

Fledderman gave up one run while striking out eight and walking one.

Britney Shaw was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Lady Dutch, while Anna Mattivi had a triple, an RBI and two runs scored and Pet Schlimm added a double and an RBI.

Lauren Walker had a single and an RBI in one at bat for DuBois, while Lexi Smith was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Aleigha Geer took the loss going five innings allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and five walks while striking out one. Saige Weible pitched two scoreless innings of relief allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 12, UNION 0, 5 INNINGS

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Megan Stahlman and Sadie Mahle each had three hits to lead Clarion-Limestone to a 12-0, five-inning win over visiting Union.

Stahlman was 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored, while Mahle was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Picking up two hits apiece for the Lady Lions were Abby Carl (2-for-3, 3B, 2 RBIs, 2 R), Cassidy Makray (2-for-3, 3B, 1 RBI, 1 R) and Karleigh Aaron (2-for-3, 3 RBIs, 1 R).

Stahlman, Makray and Regan Husted combined on a 1-hit shutout in the circle for C-L.

Stahlman went two hitless innings allowing a walk while striking out three. Makray then pitched two innings to get the win allowing one hit and a walk while striking out three and Husted finished off throw a hitless inning striking out two.

Sierra Salvo was 1-for-1 with a pair of stolen bases for Union.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 13, COUDERSPORT 8

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Cowanesque Valley rallied from an 8-2 deficit after 4 1/2 innings to beat visiting Coudersport, 13-8.

The Lady Falcons had gone up by six with a six-run top of the fifth, but CowValley answered with five in the bottom of the fifth and then scored six more times in the sixth to take control of the game.

Karmen Short hit a home run and a double for the victors while going 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. MaKayla Vargeson had a pair of doubles and was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Kaylea Burton drove in three runs while going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Shae Black was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored for Coudersport with Rosalyn Page going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Chelsey Streich was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Asleigh Southern got the win going seven innings allowing eight runs on 12 hits while striking out two.

Black took the loss giving up 13 runs, only six earned, on 12 hits and five walks while striking out seven.

BASEBALL

BROOKVILLE 13, NORTH CLARION 3, 5 INNINGS

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Aaron Park went 3-for-3 with a run scored and five RBIs to lift Brookville to a season-opening 13-3 win over visiting North Clarion in five innings.

Relisten to the game:

Park had a triple and a double while also hitting a sacrifice fly in the contest, which saw the Raiders scored five in the second, three in the fourth and four in the fifth after picking up a run in the first.

Jace Miner also had a strong game going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs and three stolen bases. Miner also started on the mound and went 2 ⅓ innings giving up an unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out four.

Chase Palmer picked up the win for Brookville pitching 2 ⅔ innings of relief giving up two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four. He retired the final seven batters he faced – eight if you count Zyler Hargenrader getting thrown out at second trying to stretch a single into a double in the third inning.

Hargenrader was 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Wolves while Devon Walters, Sam Minich and Logan Minich all scored runs. Logan Minich added an RBI single.

The loss went to Hargenrader, who pitched three innings allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out two.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 4, BRADFORD 3

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Andrew Britton scored in the bottom of the sixth innings to lift Punxsutawney to a 4-3 win over visiting Bradford.

Alec Greenblatt led the way for the Chucks going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored with Daren Byers going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Dylan Ishman and Sheldon Young also drove in runs for Punxsutawney.

Peyton Manion was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Bradford, while Calen Nuzzo was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Derek Huey got the win in relief of Greenblatt. He pitched three scoreless, hitless innings striking out five. Greenblatt gave up three earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out eight in four innings of work.

Tyler Gigliotti suffered the loss allowing one run on one hit and three walks while striking out one in an inning on the mound. Manion started and went five innings giving up three runs, all earned, on eight hits and three walks while striking out two.

SMETHPORT 12, OSWAYO VALLEY 0, 5 INNINGS

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Nate Hollowell threw a no-hitter while striking out nine to lift Smethport to a 12-0, five-inning victory over Oswayo Valley.

Alex Sanderson scored three runs and Noah Costa went 2-for-2 and scored two runs while driving in three for the Hubbers. Braedon Johnson scored a pair of runs and Bryent Johnson went 2-for-3 scoring a run and an RBI.

Noah Wichert took the loss for Oswayo Valley giving up six hits and nine runs while striking out three.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 12, UNION 0, 5 INNINGS

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Hayden Callen and Bryson Huwar combined on a 1-hit shutout, and Clarion-Limestone scored 12 runs on just five hits to get a 12-0, five-inning win over visiting Union.

Callen pitched four innings allowing one hit and a walk while striking out five to get the win. Huwar threw a scoreless inning of relief striking out three.

Colby Himes (1-for-1, 2 walks, 1 2B, 2 R, 2 RBIs), Curvin Goheen (1-for-1, 2 walks, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 RBIs) and Ben Smith (2 RBIs, 1 R) led the Lions offense. Drew Beichner, David Wiles and Huwar (1-for-1, 1 walk, 1 RBI) each added a pair of runs scored.

Doug Huffman had the lone hit for Union.

Reice Saylor took the loss going 2 ⅓ innings allowing nine runs, seven earned, on three hits and five walks while striking out two.

ST. MARYS 5, DUBOIS 2

DUBOIS, Pa. – Jake Meeker and Shane Price each drove in two runs to help visiting St. Marys to a 5-2 win over DuBois.

Meeker was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Price was 2-for-3.

Also for the Dutch, Paul Armanini went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Brandon Sicheri was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Nate Beimel got the win going four innings allowing two runs on two hits, walk walks and a hit batter while striking out eight. Matt Bellina picked up the save going three scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out three.

Jordan Frano had an RBI single for DuBois.

COUDERSPORT 11, COWANESQUE VALLEY 0

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Blake Burgett and A.J. Redmond combined on a three-hit shutout, as visiting Coudersport rolled past Cowanesque Valley, 11-0.

Burgett got the win going five innings and allowing three hits while striking out two. Redmond finished off going two innings striking out three.

Kullen Crosby had a big day offensively for the Falcons going 3-for-4 a double, a stolen base, three runs scored and four RBIs. Eli Ayers was 1-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, Burgett was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Redmond was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
