2000 DISTRICT 9 ALL-STATE SELECTIONS

 

DUBOIS' HENDRICKS NAMED TO ALL-STATE FOOTBALL TEAM

DUBOIS- Jarrod Hendricks was named to one of the Associated Press All-State Big School Football Teams on Tuesday, Dec. 19, according to the Oil City Derrick.

The six-foot-three, 250-pound Hendricks was named third-team All-State as an offensive lineman.

BROCKWAY"S CANTAFIO NAMED SECOND-TEAM ALL-STATE RUNNING BACK

BROCKWAY- Brockway's Aaron Cantafio, the all-time leading rusher in District 9, was named as a second-team AP Small School All -State running back.

Cantafio, the DuBois Tri-County Sunday/Courier-Express "Player of the Year" and the D9sports.com "Co-Player of the Year," rushed for 2,001 yards on 245 carries (8.2 yards per carry), scored 25 touchdowns and 168 points on the season in helping the Rovers to the District 9 Class AA title game.

Canatfio's career numbers include 4,694 yards and is the District 9 career touchdown leader with 57.

He was named to the All-AML South team and the Tri-County Sunday/Courier Express first-team.

CURWENSVILLE'S CURRY ALL-STATE SELECTION

CURWENSVILLE- The Curwensville Golden Tide's 2000 football season was a magical one, having won the District 9 Class A title and receiving numerous individual honors.

Add T. C. Curry to the list of individual accomplishments.

Curry's accomplishment was being named to one of the Associated Press Small School All-State Teams.

Curry was a second-team selection as an offensive lineman.

Curry blocked in front of Adam and Mark Harnish, Brian Mario and others to propel Curwensville to the district title.

CLARION'S CATHCART, SESSIONS ALL-STATE SELECTIONS

CLARION- Two Clarion players were named to the Associated Press Small School All-State Football Teams according to the Oil City Derrick.

Kyle Cathcart, the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference "Back of the Year" and D9sports.com's "Co-Player of the Year", was a second-team selection as a defensive specialist.

Taylor Sessions was a third-team pick on the defensive line.

The selections of Cathcart and Sessions were the first AP all-state selections for Clarion in 19 years, with linebacker John Marshall being an AP pick in 1981.

Cathcart finished the season with 124 tackles, including 84 solo tackles, one sack and two interceptions.

He was Clarion's offensive MVP as a freshman in 1998, the team's defensive MVP in 1999 and the offensive and defensive MVP this season.

Offensively this season, Cathcart rushed for 1,277 yards on 160 carries, scoring 27 touchdowns.   

Meanwhile, Sessions led Clarion with 13 sacks and amassed 98 tackles, the second-highest total on the team next to Cathcart.

Cathcart and Sessions helped Clarion, on both sides of the ball, to a 10-1 record and second-place in the district. The Bobcat defense were second in the state in fewest points allowed, giving up on average only 4.364 points a game.
