BROOKVILLE - Jim Belles rushed for 196 yards and scored four touchdowns
to lead the Karns City High School football team to a 36-8 win over
Brockway in the District 9 Class AA Championship game at Brookville Area
High School Saturday afternoon.
Belles scored on runs of 2, 10 and 28 yards and caught a 7-yard TD pass
from quarterback Erik Fuhrer.
Karns City claimed its second straight district title, third in four years
and fourth overall. The Gremlins (9-2) will now play District 10 champion
Sharon next week in the first round of the state playoffs.
Brockway, meanwhile, wrapped up its season at 9-2.
The Gremlins marched to a 22-0 lead before Brockway could find the
scoreboard on the first play of the fourth quarter on Rovers' Jesse
Vivian's 4-yard TD run to make it 22-8.
That's as close as Rovers would get as Belles scored from 28 yards out
with 7:52 left. Backup running back Matt Carnahan rambled 43 yards for the
Gremlins' final touchdown with 44 seconds left in the game and both teams'
second-stringers on the field.
Karns City rushed for 317 yards and outgained Brockway, 351-260. Fullback
Billy Graham added 42 yards on 13 carries for the Gremlins.
Brockway was held to a season-low 228 yards rushing. Senior wingback Aaron
Cantafio rushed for 129 yards on 31 carries and finished off the season
with 2,000 yards rushing. It was only Cantafio's second game this year
that he failed to score a touchdown.
