KARNS CITY SCORES 42 FIRST-HALF POINTS IN WIN OVER PORT ALLEGANY |
KARNS CITY- Beau Rattigan scored three touchdowns and Karns City put up 42 first-half points on its way to a 49-14 win over Port Allegany in District 9 Class AA playoff action Saturday night. Karns City (8-2) will face Brockway, 30-12 victors over Brookville Friday night, in the D-9 Class AA title game scheduled for Sat. Nov. 11 at a time and site to be determined. Rattigan scored the first two touchdowns of the game on 1-yard runs, helping the Gremlins to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Gators (6-4) responded before the end of the quarter when Tom Nasto scampered into the end zone from 11 yards out. The two teams combined for 35 points in the second quarter, with Karns City responsible for 28 of the points. Karns City struck first in the second frame when Brian Hilderbrand hauled in an Erik Fuhrer touchdown pass from 11 yards out. Then Rattigan registered his third touchdown of the game with a 25-yard raun. Port Allegany responded when Nasto found running back Cliff Fillhart on a 7-yard touchdown pass. But the Gremlins tacked on two more scores in the quarter to have a 42-14 lead at halftime. Fuhrer threw touchdown passes of 44 and 30 yards to Ian Ferguson to help create a 28-point lead. Jim Belles accounted for the last score of the game in the third quarter, scoring from a yard out. The Karns City defense held Port Allegany to 88 yards rushing and limited Nasto to 5-of-16 passing for 78 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Meanwhile, Fuhrer went 10-of 14 passing for 196 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Ferguson caught three passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns. |
