WILMINGTON ENDS BRADFORD'S SEASON WITH 35-0 WIN IN PIAA SECOND ROUND GAME |
KARNS CITY -- Jonathan Hall and Brandon Whitling each scored two touchdowns, as Wilmington ended Bradford's season with a 35-0 victory in the PIAA Class AAA football quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at Karns City.
The loss snapped Bradford nine-game winning streak and ended what had become a dream season for the Owls who went from losing their first two games of the season by lopsided margins to winning the District 9 Class AAA Championship and winning a first-round state playoff game.
The Greyhounds (11-1), ranked No. 5 in the state by the Pennsylvania Football News, proved to be too much for the Owls (9-3), as they raced to a 28-0 halftime lead on their way to the win.
Wilmington wasted little time getting on the scoreboard scoring on its opening drive when Hall scored on an 18-yard run with 3:55 remaining in the first quarter.
The Greyhounds then added another touchdown in the first quarter when Mike Oestreich broke free for a 42-yard touchdown run with 18 seconds left in the quarter to take a 14-0 lead.
Whitling then made the score 21-0 on a 47-yard run in the second quarter, and then Whitling scored again right before halftime on a 70-yard punt return to give the Greyhounds the 28-0 halftime lead.
Hall finished out the scoring for the afternoon on a 2-yard run in the third quarter making the score 35-0 in favor of Wilmington.
Whitling was the driving force for the Greyhound finishing the day with 10 carries for 162 yards and the one rushing touchdown.
As a team, Wilmington outgained Bradford 365 to 147 including 335 to 137 on the ground.
