CLARION – One week as the D9Sports.Com District 9
Football Player of the Week was not enough for Clarion’s Kyle Cathcart.
The senior running back/linebacker decided to become the first
back-to-back winner of the award when he garnered it again in Week Three
of the 2001 season with a record-setting performance against Union Monday
night.
Cathcart rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries and also caught one pass for 15 yards helping the Bobcats to a 33-0 win over Union in a game that was originally scheduled for Friday night but was moved to Monday after the tragedies that hit the country last week. With the three touchdowns, Cathcart became the all-time District 9 touchdown king with 58 scores. He surpassed the old mark set by Brockway’s Aaron Cantafio at 57 last year on a 7-yard run with 9:21 left in the game. Cathcart now has 753 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns on the season on only 68 carries. He is averaging 11.1 yards per carry and scores a touchdown once every six times he touches the ball. For his career, he now has 3,380 yards rushing on 395 carries and incredible 8.6 yards per carry average. Fourteen other players playing in District 9 leagues are also being honored this week as honorable mention recipients. Their names appear below.
