KANE HEADS TO RIDGWAY FOR KEY AML SOUTH GAME

Kane (2-0 overall, 2-0 AML South) at Ridgway (1-1, 1-1)

Week Three - 7:30 p.m. Friday Sept. 13 - The game can be heard on 103.9 FM in Kane

RIDGWAY – In another key AML South match-up Friday night, the Kane Wolves (2-0 overall, 2-0 AML South) take their unblemished record into the Elkers den in Ridgway to take on the Ridgway Elkers (1-1, 1-1).

A win by Kane would solidify the Wolves claim as one of the team’s to beat in the AML South, while a win by Ridgway would put the Elkers right in the thick of the race for the AML South crown. A loss for Ridgway could severely damage the Elkers shot at the District 9 Class A playoffs.

Last week, Kane cruised to a 53-0 win over Johnsonburg, while Ridgway lost a heart-breaking 21-20 overtime decision at Brockway.

The Wolves offense starts with quarterback Tyler Smith. The three-year starter is off to a hot start completing 63.2 percent of his passes. He is 24-for-38 for 339 yards and one touchdown.

Tim Smith (6 catches, 101 yards), Hugh Rich (6 catches, 99 yards) and Mike Jamerson (6 catches, 51 yards) are Tyler Smith’s main targets.

Jamerson also gives the Wolves a ground presence that was missing during last year’s 1-8 season. In 2002 he has rushed 18 times for 192 yards and six touchdowns. Last week he rushed for 75 yards and four scores on 11 carries versus Johnsonburg.

Ridgway already has three backs over 100 yards this year led by Ryan Mitchell’s 33 carries for 213 yards and three touchdowns. Dave Bundy has added 20 carries for 167 yards and a score, and Josh Mercer has carried the ball 25 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

The Elkers quarterback Andy Kelly hasn’t been asked to throw the ball much, but when he does throw it he is completing 65.2 percent of his passes. He is 15-for-23 for 142 yards and one score while also throwing three interceptions.

Kelly has spread the ball around to four receivers including Josh Shirey (4 catches, 53 yards), Justin Buchler (5 catches, 43 yards, 1 TD), Bundy (3 catches, 39 yards) and Mitchell (3 catches, 7 yards).
