PUNXSUTAWNEY TRAVELS TO CLEARFIELD FOR D9 LEAGUE MATCH-UP

Punxsutawney (3-0 overall, 2-0 D9 League) at Clearfield (1-2, 1-1)

Week Four - 7 p.m. Friday Sept. 20

CLEARFIELD -- In a game that has major D9 League championship implications Punxsutawney heads east to play Clearfield.

Punxsutawney enters the game as one of only two undefeated teams in the D9 League at 2-0 (Brookville is the other), while Clearfield is 1-1. A Chucks win would probably mean only one more victory would be needed to clinch at least a tie for the conference championship. If Clearfield has any hopes for another D9 League title, the Bisons must win this game.

Punxsutawney is coming off a 20-0 shutout of Bradford last week, while Clearfield lost its second game in a row when the Bisons fell 42-15 at Indian Valley.

The Chucks defense has been stellar in the first three weeks having allowed only seven points (21-7 win over Slippery Rock) while pitching back-t0-back shutouts the past two weeks (34-0 DuBois, 20-0 Bradford). Punxsutawney's defense has not allowed a touchdown in nine quarters.

On offense, Punxsutawney has used a balanced attack running for 560 yards while passing for 492.

Three players have gone over 100 yards on the season for Punxsutawney including quarterback Joe Martin (40 carries, 129 yards, 3 touchdowns), running back Dustin Guidash (33 carries, 179 yards, 3 touchdowns) and fullback Kory Blose (25 carries, 106 yards).

Martin is 25-for-43 passing for 492 yards and four touchdowns while throwing one interception.

Guidash has caught nine passes for 178 yards, Kyle Barilar has six catches for 135 yards and a touchdown, Andy Snyder has three catches for 123 yards and a score and Blose has six catches for 41 yards and two touchdowns.

Clearfield's offense was explosive in a 41-20 Week One win over Bradford, but since then the Bisons have scored only 33 points while losing 26-18 to Brookville and 42-15 to Indian Valley.

The Bisons offense has been a balanced attack rushing for 515 yards while throwing for 452.

Running back Dave Richards is District 9's leading rusher through three weeks carrying the ball 62 times for 376 yards and five touchdowns. Joshua Harbold has added 14 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Michael Sayers is 30-for-61 passing for 438 yards and two touchdowns while throwing an interception.

Richards is also the leading receiver with 10 catches for 186 yards and a score, while Todd Shaw has nine catches for 86 yards. Craig Gardner is adding eight catches for 71 yards.

Punxsutawney returns home next week to host Warren, while Clearfield goes back on the road to take on Bellefonte.
