BROCKWAY - While Kane was getting knocked around the field and into the
loss column for the first time last week against Curwensville, Brockway
was taking advantage of the opportunity.
The two teams meet Friday night in a pivotal game at newly named Frank
Varischetti Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Rovers' 23-0 win over Cameron County coupled with a Kane loss to
Curwensville gives Brockway a shot at the Allegheny Mountain League South
title if the Rovers can beat the visiting Wolves and get a win from
Ridgway at Curwensville.
That scenario would put the Rovers in first place going into the final AML
regular-season game next week at Elk County Catholic.
Brockway stopped a two-game losing streak and blanked the visiting Red
Raiders last week. The Rovers held Cameron to 35 yards rushing and ran
themselves for a season-high 295 yards.
Jeremy Sickeri led the way with 130 yards on 25 carries. He leads the team
for the season with 437 yards. Jon Cantafio (282 yards, 3 TDs), Andy
Martino (117 yards, 3 TDs) and quarterback John Himes (5 TDs) will all get
some carries.
Himes, while attempting only six passes last week in the windy, rainy
conditions, is having a solid season throwing. He's completed 53 percent
of his passes for 590 yards and five touchdowns. Tom Bussard (16 catches,
326 yards) is his top receiver.
Kane will try to rev up its offense again after a long night against the
Golden Tide. Quarterback Tyler Smith (60-for-101, 718 yds., 7 TDs, 5 Ints.)
will try to exploit a Brockway defense that has given up 134 yards passing
per game and nine touchdowns.
Smith's top receivers are Hugh Rich (19 catches, 212 yards) and Tim Smith
(12 catches, 164 yards).
Kane's top rusher is Mike Jamerson (86 attempts, 392 yards, 8 TDs).
A Kane win over Brockway wouldn't necessarily clinch an AML South title.
That would happen if Curwensville loses to Ridgway. If the Wolves and
Curwensville win, it would come down to next week when Kane hosts a
dangerous Smethport team and Curwensville visits 1-5 Johnsonburg.
For the District 9 Class A playoffs, a Kane win over Brockway would go a
long way into securing a berth, although not clinching one without some
help. |
