WEEK NINE PREVIEW STORIES

Oct. 25-26

By Chris Rossetti

NEW BETHLEHEM – Well believe it or not this is the last week of the 2002 regular season for most of District 9’s football teams.

It has been an exciting year with great games, special performances and great surprises. And that could continue in Week 9 and beyond in the playoffs.

This week’s top game is the AML Title game where Coudersport hosts Kane. The winner is the AML representative in the District 9 Class A playoffs and will get a home game as the No. 2 seed, while the loser is in the playoffs as a wildcard team and is the No. 3 seed.

The other two Class A playoffs teams are also set, as Clarion-Limestone is the KSAC’s representative and the No. 1 seed, and Ridgway is the second wild card team and the No. 4 seed.

In Class AA, Karns City is in the playoffs and has clinched the No. 1 seed, while Brookville is also in and has the No. 2 seed. The remaining two spots are still somewhat questionable. Brockway will most likely play in the playoffs and could be the No. 3 seed with a win over Youngsville, while Moniteau can reach the postseason only if it beats Pymatuning Valley, Ohio, this week. A Moniteau win coupled with a Brockway loss could give the No. 3 seed to the Warriors.

Two teams are definitely in the playoffs in Class AAA with Clearfield earning the No. 1 seed and Punxsutawney the No. 2 seed. Bradford will most likely be in the playoffs if the Owls beat Erie Strong Vincent this week and might compete even if they lose. Either way they would be the No. 3 seed.

DuBois is the lone Class AAAA team and would compete in the District 10 playoffs, but the Beavers won’t be participating this year.

WHERE

Youngsville

WHEN

LAST WEEK

Brockway lost to Elk County Catholic 24-23

Youngsville lost to Port Allegany 28-0

GAME STORY

  • Brockway enters the reeling having lost two in a row and four of its past five. The Rovers need a victory to ensure at least a .500 season after a promising 3-0 start. Also there might be some question as to the Rovers playing in the District 9 Class AA playoffs if they lose. Also Brockway needs to win to ensure that it does not have to play top seeded Karns City if the Rovers do go to the playoffs.
  • Youngsville’s once promising season (2-1 to start the year) has fallen onto hard times with four straight loses. The Eagles have struggled to score tallying just 39 points since scoring 33 in a season-opening win over Johnsonburg. During the losing skid, Youngsville has managed just 26 points, an average of 6.5 ppg. The Eagles have been shutout three times this season.

BROCKWAY LEADERS

RBs Jeremy Sickeri (136 carries, 589 yards, 5 TDs) & Jon Cantafio (85 carries, 319 yards, 3 TDs), WR Tom Bussard (20 catches, 375 yards, 2 TDs), QB John Himes (49-105 passing, 669 yards, 6 TDs, 7 ints)

YOUNGSVILLE LEADERS

QB/WR/RB Jamie Blum (93 carries, 492 yards, 2 TDs; 11 catches, 245 yards, 4 TDs; 20-50 passing, 244 yards, 4 ints), QB/WR Andy Chase (25-86 passing, 469 yards, 6 TDs, 14 ints; 6 catches, 112 yards), RB Nathan Williams (50 carries, 201 yards, 2 touchdowns), WR Steve Anthony (10 catches, 183 yards, 1 touchdown)

NEXT WEEK

Brockway could be playing in the District 9 Class AA playoffs at either Karns City or Brookville

Youngsville’s season is over

Johnsonburg (2-5 overall, 2-5 AML South) at Otto-Eldred (0-8, 0-8 AML North)

WHERE

Duke Center

WHEN

7:30 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Johnsonburg lost to Curwensville 25-13

Otto-Eldred lost to Eisenhower 38-7

GAME STORY

  • After an 0-4 start the Rams have been playing better as of late splitting their last four games. The two loses were also heartbreakers including a 14-12 decision to Elk County Catholic and last week’s 25-13 loss to Curwensville that saw the Rams blow a fourth-quarter lead. A lot of the credit for the turnaround has to go to the defense which has allowed just 39 points in the past four games and has tossed two shutouts. This happened after the Rams allowed 148 points (37 ppg) in their first four games.
  • Otto-Eldred is once again struggling. The Terrors losing streak has reached 27 games, and a loss against Johnsonburg would make the senior class the first one since 1932 to graduate without winning a game. The Terrors seasons started out showing signs of progress, but an injury to quarterback Joey Drake started a downslide that has seen Otto lose its last five games by a combined score of 226-32

JOHNSONBURG LEADERS

QB Greg Wonderly (67-157 passing, 925 yards, 7 TDs, 15 ints), WR Eric Iorfido (25 catches, 440 yards, 4 TDs), RB Quentin Shreffler (84 rushes, 279 yards, 3 TDs)

OTTO-ELDRED LEADERS

QB Joey Drake, WR Josh Barnish

NEXT WEEK

Both teams seasons are over

Cameron County (3-5 overall, 3-5 AML South) at Eisenhower (5-3, 5-3 AML North)

WHERE

Russell

WHEN

7:30 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Cameron County lost to Ridgway 23-0

Eisenhower beat Otto-Eldred 38-7

GAME STORY

  • Cameron County started the season 3-1 but has since fallen on very tough times losing four straight. The offense has been the main problem, as the Red Raiders have been shutout in three consecutive games after dropping a 27-20 decision to Kane Sept. 27. If the 20 points against Kane and the 15 against Curwensville are taken away, Cameron has scored just 22 points in its other six games.
  • Eisenhower broke a two-game slide with last week’s win. The Knights rediscovered itself positing 38 points against Otto-Eldred after posting a combined 12 in losses to Smethport and Eisenhower. A win could help Eisenhower finish a respectable 6-3, and considering the fact that the District 10 playoffs are determined by the District 10 committee nothing is ruled out in that regard.

CAMERON COUNTY LEADERS

QB Kyle Vogt (46-124 passing, 631 yards, 4 TDs, 10 ints), Scott Aikens (14 catches, 381 yards, 3 TDs), RB Adam Kesterholt (76 rushes, 404 yards, 1 TD)

EISENHOWER LEADERS

QB Jacoby Curtis (60-123 passing, 1,043 yards, 11 TDs, 9 Ints), WRs Bart Moon (14 catches, 347 yards, 3 TDs; 217 yards rushing, 2 TDs) & Ryan Irwin (15 catches, 256 yards, 3 TDs), RBs Eric Sirianni (65 rushes, 343 yards, 2 TDs) & Mark Collins (39 rushes, 210 yards, 1 TD)

NEXT WEEK

Cameron County’s season is over

There is an outside shot Eisenhower could compete in the District 10 playoffs

Ridgway (6-2 overall, 6-2 AML South) at Smethport (3-5, 3-5 AML North)

WHERE

Smethport

WHEN

7:30 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Ridgway beat Cameron County 23-0

Smethport lost to Kane 32-7

GAME STORY

  • Ridgway is coming off its big win over Cameron County that clinched the fourth and final playoff spot in Class A. The Elkers enter this game just trying to fine tune their game for the playoffs. They would also like to avoid injury. But a win over Smethport is always big for AML teams as well.
  • Smethport is setting records this season but in the wrong direction. The Hubbers have lost five games in a season for the first time since the 1980 season, and a loss to Ridgway would be the first six-loss season in Smethport since the 1976 team went 3-7. But the good news for the Hubbers is they are a young team led by a sophomore quarterback (Mike Mitchell). A win over a playoff-bound team like Ridgway could jump start the Hubbers who should rebound next season.

RIDGWAY LEADERS

RBs Ryan Mitchell (127 carries, 665 yards, 10 TDs), Josh Mercer (74 carries, 323 yards, 6 TDs) & Dave Bundy (76 rushes, 452 yards, 3 TDS; 9 catches, 181 yards, 2 TDs), QB Andy Kelly (53-94 passing, 656 yards, 5 TDs, 6 ints; 227 yards rushing, 5 TDs), TE Justin Buchler (14 catches, 144 yards, 1 TD), TE Josh Shirey (13 catches, 156 yards)

SMETHPORT LEADERS

Stats missing one week

QB Mike Mitchell (110 caries, 634 yards, 10 TDs; 16-53 passing, 189 yards, 4 ints, 7 catches, 98 yards, 1 TD)

NEXT WEEK

Ridgway will be at C-L Friday or Saturday in the first round of the District 9 Class A Playoffs

Smethport season is over

Curwensville (5-3 overall, 5-3 AML South) at Sheffield (3-5, 3-5 AML North)

WHERE

Sheffield

WHEN

1:30 p.m. Saturday

LAST WEEK

Curwensville beat Johnsonburg 25-13

Sheffield lost to Coudersport 19-7

GAME STORY

  • Despite not making the District 9 Class A playoffs for the first time in three years, the Golden Tide have an opportunity to finish the season on a high-note and a 7-3 record. If Curwensville beats Sheffield this week and Homer-Center next week, it means the Tide will have finished the season with five wins in their final six games after starting the year 2-2.
  • Sheffield also has a chance to end the year on a positive note. The Wolverines were 2-4 at one points but could end the season with two wins in their final three games and the knowledge that they played AML North champion Coudersport as tough as any besides Eisenhower.

CURWENSVILLE LEADERS

QB Travis McDonald (38-83, 563 yards, 8 TDs, 10 ints), WR Greg Gilbert (17 catches, 417 yards, 6 TDs), RBs Brooks Collins (144 carries, 585 yards, 1 TD) & Doug Swatsworth (82 carries, 393 yards, 2 TDs)

SHEFFIELD LEADERS

WR Robin Copley

NEXT WEEK

Curwensville will hosts Homer-Center Friday in a game that replaces Clearfield on the schedule

Sheffield’s season is over

Elk County Catholic (4-4 overall, 4-4 AML South) at Port Allegany (5-3, 5-3 AML North)

WHERE

Port Allegany

WHEN

1:30 p.m. Saturday

LAST WEEK

Elk County Catholic beat Brockway 24-23

Port Allegany beat Youngsville 28-0

GAME STORY

  • Elk County Catholic is one of the hottest teams in the district. The Crusaders are on a roll having one three in a row with a new found offense that is averaging 26 ppg during the streak. Prior to the three-game winning streak, the Crusaders had averaged just 8.4 ppg and had been shutout twice.
  • As hot as ECC has been, Port Allegany might even be hotter. The Gators are proof that there should be an expanded District 9 Class A playoff bracket. After starting the year 1-3 they have run off four straight wins and can get a fifth and a 6-3 record with a win over ECC. The Gators offense is averaging 29.25 ppg during the streak, while the defense is allowing just 4.75 ppg and has pitched back-to-back shutouts. Prior to the winning streak, Port Allegany was scoring just 13 ppg while allowing 26 ppg.

ELK CO. CATH. LEADERS

QB Bobby Pearsall (40-93 passing, 440 yards, 3 TDs, 9 ints; 129 yards rushing, 1 TD), WR Matt Eckert (21 catches, 191 yards, 1 TD), RB Shane Funair (122 carries, 541 yards, 6 TDs), RB Ted Cherry (87 carries, 513 yards, 3 TDs)

PORT ALLEGANY LEADERS

RBs Adam Rohrer (138 carries, 719 yards, 9 TDs) & Claude Haskins (94 carries, 393 yards, 1 TD; 21 catches, 198 yards), WR Jeremy Niece (9 catches, 212 yards, 2 TDs), WR Jeremy Tanner (9 catches, 162 yards, 3 TDs), QB Craig Flint (49-109, 675 yards, 7 TDs, 7 ints)

NEXT WEEK

Elk County Catholic is at St. Marys Friday night

Port Allegany’s season is over

DISTRICT 9 LEAGUE

Clearfield (6-2 overall, 3-1 D9 League) at DuBois (0-8, 0-8)

WHERE

DuBois

WHEN

7 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Clearfield beat St. Marys 47-14

DuBois lost to Oil City 38-13

GAME STORY

  • This is the 98th meeting between these two rivals. DuBois leads the all-time series 66-26-5. Clearfield won last year’s meeting, but DuBois has won 5 of the past 7 and 8 of the past 12. The Beavers were dominant between 1966 and 1981 winning 16 consecutive games.
  • Clearfield is also on a roll. Since starting the year 1-2, the Bisons have run off five straight wins and have done so in impressive fashion outscoring their opponents 231-55 during the run. Dave Richards has been a big part of the streak scoring 25 of his district leading 31 touchdowns in that span. Richards now has 66 career rushing touchdown and is second in District 9 history just seven scores behind Clarion’s Kyle Cathcart who set the record last season with 73 career touchdowns. Richards’s is also believed to be the leading rusher in the Western Region of Pennsylvania this season 1ith 1,771 yards and the third leading rusher in the entire state.
  • DuBois’ losing skid has now reached 12 games. The Beavers have not won since they upset Bradford 28-25 Oct. 12, 2001. DuBois has also dropped 14 of its last 16 games after starting the 2001 season 3-0. The Beavers are in jeopardy of having their worst season ever. The 1961 team holds that distinction having gone 1-8-1. With two games left, DuBois needs wins in both of them to avoid that fate. The Beavers are averaging just 10.5 ppg and are allowing 35.9 ppg. The closest they came to a win was a 21-10 loss at Bradford.

CLEARFIELD LEADERS

RB Dave Richards (178 rushes, 1,771 yards, 27 TDs; 12 catches, 214 yards, 1 TD), WRs Todd Shaw (16 catches, 173 yards, 1 TD) & Craig Gardner (16 catches, 147 yards), QB Michael Sayers (51-99 passing, 679 yards, 4 TDs, 3 ints)

DUBOIS LEADERS

QB Jon Wanson (35-99 passing, 397 yards, 3 TDs, 10 ints), WRs Mark Jones (17 catches, 219 yards, 1 TD) & Ryan Samanka (10 catches, 146 yards), RBs Justin Foltz (72 carries, 335 yards, 1 TD), Vance Newell (75 carries, 271 yards, 1 TD) & Eric Stuby (51 carries, 248 yards, 2 TDs)

NEXT WEEK

Clearfield has a game scheduled with Curwensville Friday. Whether or not the game will be played is unknown because the Bisons are in the playoffs. Clearfield should have a bye in the first week and would play either Bradford or Punxsutawney Nov. 8-9.

DuBois is at Altoona Friday

KEYSTONE SHORTWAY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

A-C Valley (0-8 overall, 0-7 KSAC) at Clarion-Limestone (8-0, 7-0)

WHERE

Strattanville

WHEN

7 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

A-C Valley lost to Clarion 30-12

Clarion-Limestone beat Moniteau 48-16

GAME STORY

  • A-C Valley owns the second longest losing streak in District 9. The Falcons have dropped 13 in a row, 16 of their past 17 and 21 of their past 23 dating back to Sept. 15, 2000, when they beat Union 30-8 to go to 3-0. During the 13-game slid. A-C Valley has managed just 71 points (5.5 ppg) including only 45 (5.6 ppg) this season
  • While A-C Valley owns the second longest losing streak in the district C-L owns both the longest winning streak (8 games) and the longest regular-season winning streak (16) in the district. The Lions are ranked third in the state in scoring averaging 43.0 ppg and are the top scoring Class A team in the state. They also rank 18th in the state in point allowed allowing 6.3 ppg, which is the third best mark among Class A teams. The Lions first-team defense is even better allowing just 4.25 ppg, which would rank fifth overall in the state and second among Class A teams. A win would give C-L their first outright KSAC title since 1993. It would also mark the first time the Lions will have gone unbeaten in the regular season since 1993, and it would be only the third unbeaten, untied regular season for the Lions since C-L started football in 1972.

A-C VALLEY LEADERS

RBs Zach Heeter (75 carries, 315 yards) & Brad Hurrelbrink (70 carries, 302 yards, 1 TD; 8 catches, 143 yards, 1 TD), QB Corey Clawson (80 carries, 145 yards, 2 TDs; 27-61 passing, 351 yards, 2 TDs, 6 ints)

C-L LEADERS

QB Hayden Johnston (34-72 passing, 588 yards, 11 TDs, 3 ints; 97 carries, 513 yards, 6 TDs), RBs Ben Brooks (80 carries, 771 yards, 5 TDs), Brendan Huwar (119 carries, 725 yards, 19 TDs) & David Brooks (29 carries, 179 yards, 2 TDs), WR Brad Beggs (21 catches, 334 yards, 7 TDs)

NEXT WEEK

A-C Valley’s season is over

Clarion-Limestone will host Ridgway in the District 9 Class A playoffs Nov. 1 or 2

Keystone (5-3 overall, 4-3 KSAC) at Clarion (4-4, 3-4)

WHERE

Clarion

WHEN

7 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Keystone lost to Redbank Valley 41-20

Clarion beat A-C Valley 30-12

GAME STORY

  • Injuries have caught up to the Panthers, who are looking for their first win over Clarion since 1997. Keystone has lost one of the top wide receivers in the district, Bobby Telesz, for the season with a knee injury and are also decimated on both the offensive and defensive lines. The losses seem to be effecting the Panthers more on defense where they are allowing an average of 21.5 ppg. The offense is scoring at a pace of 25.5 ppg and if you take Keystone’s shutout loss to C-L away, the Panthers are averaging 29.1 ppg in their other seven games. With five wins, Keystone is guaranteed back-to-back winning season if they win this game or if they don’t play a Week 10 game for the first time since the 1996-97 seasons and for only the second time since it was accomplished in 1988-89.
  • Clarion head coach Larry Wiser has done a remarkable job keeping the Bobcats not only competitive but together as well. Just before Clarion dropped an 8-6 decision to West Shamokin that fell it to 2-4, two key linemen quit the team. But instead of the team folding and finishing out the season as one of the worst in school history, Wiser has rallied the troops and his team now has an opportunity to secure it fourth straight winning campaign and its seventh winning campaign in the past eight years. With the win last week, Clarion got to four wins in a season for the 10th straight year and for the 41st time in the past 45 years

KEYSTONE LEADERS

QB Buck Neely (54-115 passing, 902 yards, 13 TDs, 6 ints; 64 carries, 335 yards, 1 TD), QB/WR Billy Colwell (53 carries, 289 yards, 5 TDs), WR Jared Griebal (14 catches, 231 yards, 6 TDs)

CLARION LEADERS

QB Jamie Arner (45-103 passing, 612 yards, 8 TDs, 12 Ints), WR Will Lewis (18 catches, 197 yards, 5 TDs), WB Jason Reed (20 catches, 316 yards, 2 TDs; 33 carries, 224 yards), RBs Dave Larson (92 carries, 386 yards, 1 TD) & Corey Corbett (64 carries, 326 yards, 2 TDs)

NEXT WEEK

Keystone has a game schedule with Brockway. But the game won’t be played if the Rovers are in the D9 Class AA playoffs

Clarion’s season is over

Karns City (7-1 overall, 6-1 KSAC) at West Shamokin (2-6, 2-5)

WHERE

NuMine

WHEN

7 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Karns City beat Union 31-3

West Shamokin lost to Meadville 63-30

GAME STORY

  • Karns City has won 7 straight since an opening-game loss to C-L and have clinched the top seed in the District 9 Class AA playoffs. The Gremlins are looking for their fourth straight title.
  • West Shamokin is having a rough go of it again this year. The Wolves, who played as Shannock Valley until the 2000 season, have not had a winning season since 1994. Since that time the Spartans-Wolves have combined to go 10-64 (.135). Offense has been a major problem for West Shamokin this season. If the 30 points against Meadville are taken away, the Wolves are averaging only 10.9 ppg. On the other hand the defense has been respectable allowing 20 or fewer points in four of the eight games.

KARNS CITY LEADERS

RB Matt Carnahan (126 carries, 1,013 yards, 19 TDs), QB Erik Fuhrer (stats missing 1 week – 125 yards rushing, 3 TDs; 53-102 passing, 723 yards, 3 TDs, 3 ints)

WEST SHAMOKIN LEADERS

QB Trevor Henderson (43-113 passing, 568 yards, 4 TDs, 4 ints; 62 carries, 347 yards, 3 TDs), RBs Steven Kupec (163 carries, 563 yards, 6 TDs) & Craig Kaplon (47 carries, 228 yards, 1 TD), WR Bryan Crytzer (14 catches, 158 yards, 2 TDs)

NEXT WEEK

Karns City could have a bye in the D9 Class AA playoffs or they could host Moniteau or Brockway

West Shamokin hosts Springdale

Redbank Valley (6-2 overall, 5-2 KSAC) at Union (2-6, 2-5)

WHERE

Rimersburg

WHEN

7 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Redbank Valley beat Keystone 41-20

Union lost to Karns City 31-3

GAME STORY

  • Redbank Valley is another good example as to why the District 9 Class A playoffs should be expanded. The Bulldogs two losses have come against Clarion-Limestone and Karns City, two teams that have combined to go 15-1 on the season. On the other hand, the two losses suffered by Ridgway, the team that beat Redbank out for the playoff spot went to Kane and Brockway, teams that have combined to go just 11-5 on the year. Both Ridgway and Redbank were deserving of the spot, but the Bulldogs feel jilted, as does the KSAC. Redbank got a sensational four-touchdown performance from Ron Geist last week, who was playing with an injured shoulder that will probably require surgery at the end of the season. Geist, though, wants to finish out his high school football career on the field, and it is believed that he can’t injury the shoulder any further.
  • Despite a 2-6 record, Union has been much more competitive under first-year head coach Scott Kindel. A good look at how competitive the Knights have been came last week when they trailed Karns City just 10-3 going to the fourth quarter before the Gremlins pulled away. Union has had difficulty scoring this season averaging 6.9 ppg.

REDBANK VALLEY LEADERS

QB Shane Reed (51-101 passing, 1,018 yards, 9 TDs, 3 ints), RB Ron Geist (182 carries, 936 yards, 14 TDs), WB Brandon Johnston (157 yards rushing, 344 receiving, 4 TDs), WR Tyson Truitt (29 catches, 578 yards, 8 TDs)

UNION LEADERS

Stats missing one week for all by Dennis Shay

QB Adam Milanovich (33-84 passing, 432 yards, 3 TDs, 9 ints), WR Darren Laughlin (9 catches, 189 yards, 4 Tds), RB Dennis Shay (120 carries, 391 yards), RB Devon Kriebel (42 carries, 208 yards, 2 TDs)

NEXT WEEK

Both teams seasons are over

NON-CONFERENCE

Brookville (5-3) at Meadville (2-6)

WHERE

Meadville

WHEN

7 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Brookville beat Punxsutawney 28-21

Meadville beat West Shamokin 63-30

GAME STORY

  • Brookville is coming off a huge win over Punxsutawney that clinched not only the D9 League title but also the second seed in the District 9 Class AA playoffs. The Raiders better not look past a Meadville team that has scored 130 points in the last two weeks. The Raiders offense has been strong averaging 25.1 ppg while the defense is allowing 18.6
  • Meadville’s offensive explosion the past two weeks has been very surprising considering the Bulldogs scored just 67 points in their first six games. Meadville’s defense is still suspect allowing 29.5 ppg including 58 in the last two weeks.

BROOKVILLE LEADERS

QB Cole Cook (86-155, 1,146 yards, 9 TDs, 4 ints; 207 yards rushing, 4 TDs), WRs Corey Santoriello (36 catches, 514 yards, 7 TDs; 207 yards rushing, 3 TDs), Brent Puller (18 catches, 184 yards) & Cliff Park (13 catches, 175 yards), RBs Matt Gilbert (123 carries, 504 yards, 4 TDs) & Bill Morrison (84 carries, 371 yards, 7 TDs)

MEADVILLE LEADERS

FB Brandon Schreffler (107 carries, 745 yards, 8 TDs), HBs Charles McDonald (79 carries, 494 yards, 3 TDs) & Josh Drachup (66 carries, 463 yards, 6 TDs), QB Joe Bennett (16-for-62, 514 yards, 4 TDs, 5 Ints)

NEXT WEEK

Brookville will host either Brockway or Moniteau in the District 9 Class AA playoffs

Meadville’s season is over

Erie Strong Vincent (5-3) at Bradford (4-4)

WHERE

Bradford

WHEN

7 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Erie Strong Vincent beat Erie East 27-6

Bradford beat Bellefonte 49-6

GAME STORY

  • Erie Strong Vincent has had an up-and-down season but have been strong as late winning three of their past four games. It has been a different Colonels teams in the wins averaging 38.2 ppg while in the loses ESV is averaging just 4 ppg and has been shut out twice.
  • Bradford has run off four straight wins since starting the year 0-4, and the Owls have yet to lose at home holding a 3-0 mark. Bradford’s offense has been the main reason for the turnaround averaging 32.75 ppg during the winning span after scoring just 14.75 in the four losses. That mark included only 11.3 ppg in the first three games. Since scoring 25 points in a loss to Warren, Bradford is averaging 31.2 ppg.

BRADFORD LEADERS

RBs Sean Hvizdzak (76 carries, 659 yards, 9 TDs), Shawn Colligan (75 carries, 472 yards, 7 TDs) & Brandon LaBrozzi (58 carries, 318 yards, 3 TDs)

NEXT WEEK

Erie Strong Vincent’s could be chosen to play in the D10 playoffs or its season could be over

Bradford could play in the District 9 Class AAA playoffs at Punxsutawney

Pymatuning Valley, Ohio (2-7) at Moniteau (3-5)

WHERE

West Sunbury

WHEN

7 p.m. Friday

LAST WEEK

Pymatuning Valley lost to Harvey (Ohio) 34-14

Moniteau lost to Clarion-Limestone 48-16

GAME STORY

  • Pymatuning Valley makes the trip over from Ohio to face Moniteau. PV’s top rusher going into last week was Steve Miller, but he didn’t gain a yard and might not have played. Last season Pymatuning Valley lost at home to Moniteau 33-14
  • Moniteau’s season is on the line. If the Warriors win they are in the District 9 Class AA playoffs. If they lose they are out. Moniteau started the season 3-1 but has dropped four straight. In their last two loses the Warriors have been outscored 88-22. On the season Moniteau is averaging only 14.8 ppg.

PYMATUNING VALLEY LEADERS

RB Steve Miller (368 yards, 3 TDs), RB Billy Webker (226 yards, 1 TD) QB Steve Ault (670 yards passing, 6 TDs; 411 yards rushing, 4 Tds), WRs Larry Pifer (292 yards receiving, 2 TDs), Casey Romanowski (240 yards receiving, 2 TDs) & Neil Barrett (144 yards receiving, 2 TDs)
