CORSICA – Clearfield’s Dave Richards is the first D9Sports.Com Football Player of the Week for the 2002 season. Richards had an all-around great game in Clearfield’s 41-20 win over archrival Bradford Friday night. On offense, he ran the ball 26 times for 188 yards and three touchdowns while adding four catches for 114 yards and a score. On the night, he had 302 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns, and one two-point conversion accounting for 26 of Clearfield’s points. Richards also had a good night on defense, intercepting a pass. Sixteen other players playing in District 9 leagues are also being honored this week as honorable mention recipients. Their names appear below. D9Sports.Com is a web site in its third year of existence located at www.d9sports.com. The site covers athletics, primarily football in the fall, within the PIAA’s District 9. The site is not affiliated with the PIAA in any way. For more information on the site, please visit it or e-mail the staff at d9sportscom@hotmail.com. The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by the three founding members of D9Sports.Com. The awards can be given to any players playing on one of the 29 teams who compete in a District 9 League. Those 29 teams include four teams who are non-District 9 teams (Sheffield, Eisenhower, Youngsville and West Shamokin) but play more than 75 percent of their games against District 9 opponents and compete for District 9 league titles. The awards are the only weekly awards given out in the District that represent the district as a whole. Player of the Week recipients will receive a certificate from D9Sports.Com to honor their achievement. Honor roll members are listed alphabetically by school.
