CORSICA – Brookville’s Corey Santoriello is the D9Sports.Com District 9 Football Player of the Week for the second week of the 2002 season. Santoriello played a key role in Brookville’s 26-18 upset win over Clearfield last Friday that evened the Raiders record at 1-1 and got them off to a 1-0 start in the D9 League. He combined for 195 total yards of offense and three touchdowns including eight catches for 112 yards and a score and four runs for 83 yards and two touchdowns. His 64-yard scoring run with 7:38 left in the fourth quarter sealed the win for Brookville. In one of the closest votes in the three-year history of D9Sports.Com’s Players of the Week, Santoriello edged Karns City’s Matt Carnahan (206 yards rushing, 4 touchdowns) by two voting points for the award. Carnahan is one of fourteen players playing in District 9 leagues who are also being honored this week as honorable mention recipients. Their names appear below. D9Sports.Com is a web site in its third year of existence located at www.d9sports.com. The site covers athletics, primarily football in the fall, within the PIAA’s District 9. The site is not affiliated with the PIAA in any way. For more information on the site, please visit it or e-mail the staff at d9sportscom@hotmail.com. The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by the three founding members of D9Sports.Com. The awards can be given to any players playing on one of the 29 teams who compete in a District 9 League. Those 29 teams include four teams who are non-District 9 teams (Sheffield, Eisenhower, Youngsville and West Shamokin) but play more than 75 percent of their games against District 9 opponents and compete for District 9 league titles. The awards are the only weekly awards given out in the District that represent the district as a whole. Honor roll members are listed alphabetically by school.
