CORSICA – For the second straight week and for the third time in five weeks, Clearfield’s Dave Richards is the D9Sports.Com District 9 Football Player of the Week. Richards ran 17 times for 218 yards and two touchdowns and returned a fumble for a third touchdown in Clearfield’s 45-13 win at Bellefonte Friday night. He is only the third player in the three-year history of the award to be named Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks. Brockway’s Aaron Cantafio was named Player of the Week in weeks eight and nine of 2000, and Clarion’s Kyle Cathcart was named Player of the Week in weeks two and three 2001. Richards is also only the third player to win the award at least three times in a season joining Cantafio (3 in 2000) and Cathcart (3 in 2001). In addition to Richards, 14 other players playing in District 9 leagues are being honored this week as honorable mention recipients. Their names appear below. D9Sports.Com is a web site in its third year of existence located at www.d9sports.com. The site covers athletics, primarily football in the fall, within the PIAA’s District 9. The site is not affiliated with the PIAA in any way. For more information on the site, please visit it or e-mail the staff at d9sportscom@hotmail.com. The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by the three founding members of D9Sports.Com. The awards can be given to any players playing on one of the 29 teams who compete in a District 9 League. Those 29 teams include four teams who are non-District 9 teams (Sheffield, Eisenhower, Youngsville and West Shamokin) but play more than 75 percent of their games against District 9 opponents and compete for District 9 league titles. The awards are the only weekly awards given out in the District that represent the district as a whole. Honor roll members are listed alphabetically by school.
