CORSICA Dave Richards continued his hold on the D9Sports.Com District 9 Football Player of the Week award, winning for the fourth straight time and for the fifth time in seven weeks in Week Seven of the 2002 season. Richards ran 16 times for 363 yards, an average 22.7 yards per carry, while scoring seven touchdowns, which is believed to at least tie a District 9 record if not set the District 9 record for touchdowns in a game. The state record for touchdowns in a game is eight. Richards played only one series in the second half and had 314 yards rushing and six touchdowns in the first half. In addition to Richards, 16 other players playing in District 9 leagues and the Clearfield offensive line are being honored this week as honorable mention recipients. Their names appear below. D9Sports.Com is a web site in its third year of existence located at www.d9sports.com. The site covers athletics, primarily football in the fall, within the PIAAs District 9. The site is not affiliated with the PIAA in any way. For more information on the site, please visit it or e-mail the staff at d9sportscom@hotmail.com. The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by the three founding members of D9Sports.Com. The awards can be given to any players playing on one of the 29 teams who compete in a District 9 League. Those 29 teams include four teams who are non-District 9 teams (Sheffield, Eisenhower, Youngsville and West Shamokin) but play more than 75 percent of their games against District 9 opponents and compete for District 9 league titles. The awards are the only weekly awards given out in the District that represent the district as a whole. Honor roll members are listed alphabetically by school.
