KANE'S TYLER SMITH D9SPORTS.COM DISTRICT 9 FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK NINE 2002

14 players named to District 9 Honor Roll

CORSICA – Kane’s Tyler Smith is the final D9Sports.Com District 9 Football Player of the Week for the 2002 season winning the award after leading his team to the AML Title in Week Nine.

Smith, a senior, was 20-for-23 passing (87 percent) for 225 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing eight times for 24 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wolves to a 35-19 win over Coudersport in the AML Title game. It is the second time in his career he has won the award having won it in his sophomore season as well.

In addition to Smith, 14 other players playing in District 9 leagues are being honored this week as honorable mention recipients. Their names appear below.

While this is the last Player of the Week Award for the 2002 season, there will be postseason awards including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year chosen at the conclusion of the season (after the final District 9 team is eliminated from the playoffs).

The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by the three founding members of D9Sports.Com. The awards can be given to any players playing on one of the 29 teams who compete in a District 9 League. Those 29 teams include four teams who are non-District 9 teams (Sheffield, Eisenhower, Youngsville and West Shamokin) but play more than 75 percent of their games against District 9 opponents and compete for District 9 league titles. The awards are the only weekly awards given out in the District that represent the district as a whole.

Honor roll members are listed alphabetically by school.
