BROCKWAY ROLLS OVER BROOKVILLE INTO D9 CLASS AA TITLE GAME
SATURDAY NOV. 2 D9 CLASS AA SEMIFINALS - Brockway 41, Brookville 12

BROOKVILLE – Jeremy Sickeri ran for 112 yards and four touchdowns and had an interception on defense to lead Brockway to a 41-12 win over Brookville in the District 9 Class AA semifinals Saturday night at Brookville.

The third-seeded Rovers (6-4) will now play top-seeded Karns City (9-1) either Friday or Saturday in the D9 Class AA title game at a site and time to be determined.

"Jeremy is just a great ball player," Brockway head coach Ray Reckner said. "He is a key for us on both sides of the football. He runs hard. He is our go-to-guy. He just had an excellent game."

Sickeri wasn’t the only hero for the Rovers, who outgained Brookville 327-192 on the night.

Fullback Seth Rhed added 91 yards rushing and a touchdown, and fellow fullback Andy Martino had 40 yards rushing.

"We figured they would key on Jeremy," Reckner said. "So we decided going into the game that we would run off tackle and get the ball to our fullbacks. They both ran real well."

Brockway put the game away in a hurry scoring the first three times they touched the ball to take a 21-0 lead just 19 seconds into the second quarter.

Sickeri got the first scored at the 9:50 mark of the opening quarter on a 7-yard run. The touchdown came on the game’s first drive, which ended as six-play, 58-yard march following the opening kickoff. Rhed set the tone for the night when he broke a 22-yard run on the game’s first play.

A 1-yard run by Sickeri with 6:08 left in the first quarter made it 14-0. The score ended a 6-play, 28-yar drive for the Rovers that began after Sickeri’s interception.

The Rovers started to pull away on a 12-yard run by Rhed with 11:41 left in the first half.

And exactly nine minutes later the route was on when John Himes hit Tom Bussard with a 22-yard scoring pass that made the score 27-0.

The Rovers weren’t doing scoring in the first half yet, as Sickeri broke a 20-yard run with 56.2 seconds remaining before the intermission to make the score 33-0 at the break.

"The offensive line was the key to the game," Reckner said. "They played very well. The fired off the ball and stayed with the blocks. I can’t give them enough credit."

Another key to the first half dominance by Brockway was the Rover defense which limited the Raiders to 44 yards in the half and intercepted Brookville quarterback Cole Cook four times in the half (five times for the game).

"We changed up our look," Reckner said. "We went with a five-man front for the first time this week, and we were doing more blitzing. We wanted to keep pressure on Cook. The defensive backs might have had the interceptions, but it was the pressure we put on Cook that forced the interceptions."

In the second half, Brookville came out and put together its first scoring drive, 15-play, 70-yard march scoring on a 16-yard pass from Cole Cook to Corey Santoriello.

But the drive consumed just over eight minutes in the third quarter, and the Raiders still trailed by 27 points with just under 16 minutes left in the football game.

Early in the fourth quarter, Brockway made it 41-6 on a 37-yard run by Sickeri, who broke free through the line and out ran the Brookville defenders to the end zone.

That score, which came with 10:10 left in the game, made it a 35-point differential activating the PIAA’s "Mercy Rule". The "Mercy Rule" calls for a running clock anytime a team’s lead goes over 35 points in the second half.

Brookville closed out the scoring on a 14-yard pass from Nick Heschke to Matt Mohney with 2:09 left to play.
