PUNXSUTAWNEY KNOCKS OFF BRADFORD IN CLASS AAA SEMIFINALS

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Dustin Guidash rushed for 243 yards and two touchdowns and had four catches for 54 yards to lead Punxsutawney to a 21-14 win over Bradford Friday night in the District 9 Class AAA semifinals at Punxsutawney.

With the win, the Chucks move into the D9 Class AAA title game against Clearfield at 7 p.m. Friday night at DuBois.

Bradford took an early 7-0 lead 1:04 into the game on a 29-yard scoring run by Dave Snyder that came moments after a 30-yard run by Jon Colts.

Punxsutawney answered right back needing only three plays to march 66 yards and tie the game a seven. Guidash provided the score on a 58-yard touchdown run with 9:25 left in the opening quarter.

Bradford had a chance to take the lead back following a 32-yard run by Colts and a 25-yard scamper by Snyder, but Kyle Macfarlane missed a 27-yard field goal attempt.

That proved costly, as Guidash took the first play after the missed field goal and broke free for an 80-yard scoring run an a 13-7 Punxsutawney lead with 5:37 left in the first quarter.

Bradford wasted another scoring opportunity in the second quarter when the Owls couldn’t convert on a fourth-and-3 from the Punxsutawney 21.

The Owls did retake the lead with 51 seconds left in the half thanks to a 20-yard scoring run by Sean Hvizdzak that was set up by a 34-yard punt return to the Punxsutawney 21 by Hvizdzak.

Punxsutawney tried to score right before halftime, but Joe Martin’s Hail Mary pass was picked off in the end zone as the clock hit zero.

The Chucks were able to take the lead for good three seconds into the fourth quarter when Kory Blose scored on a 1-yard run. Guidash added the two-point conversion run to make it a 7-point game.

The big plays of the drive were a 36-yard screen pass from Martin to Guidash that set the Chucks up at the 8-yard line and a pass interference call on Bradford on a fourth-and-goal play moments later.
