PITTSBURGH – Gary Lee ran 12 times for 107 yards and six touchdown to lead Perry to a 61-0 win over Clearfield (9-3) in the second round of the PIAA Class AAA playoffs Friday night at George Cupples Stadium on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

With the shutout, Perry (13-0) kept its steak alive. The streak being that the Commodores have yet to allow a point in 13 games this season. And a big reason the streak was kept alive is that Perry shutdown Clearfield’s Dave Richards. Richards entered the game as the second leading rusher in the state and the top touchdown getter in the state. But the Commodores limited Richards to 15 carries for 19 yards and obviously no touchdowns.

Lee and Perry got things started quickly with a 26-yard touchdown run 22 seconds into the game on the first play from Scrimmage. Perry’s Vaughn Rivers had returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but a clip inside the 20 had negated the score.

Things didn’t get any better from there for the Bisons, as Perry scored twice more in the next 4:30 minutes to taker a 20-0 lead with 7:31 left in the first quarter.

The first touchdown came on a 24-yard pass from Scott Knapp to Lee, and then Eric Wicks returned a Clearfield punt 71 yards for a touchdown.

The Commodores then went up 26-0 at the end of the first quarter on an 18-yard run by Lee.

In the second quarter Lee scored on a 22-yard run to make it 33-0, and Knapp hit Kareem Ferguson with a 44-yard pass to make it 41-0. A 2-yard run by Lee by it 48-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Lee scored on a 14-yard run and Rivers returned a punt 42 yards for a score.

Perry now plays WPIAL champion Hopewell in the PIAA Western Finals.
