ALTOONA ENDS DUBOIS'S MISERABLE SEASON
NOV. 1 WEEK TEN - Altoona 67, DuBois 12
By Rich Rhoades

ALTOONA — An already long season for the DuBois Area High School football team finished off with a nightmarish visit to Altoona’s Mansion Park Friday night.

Altoona routed the Beavers, 67-12.

It was the 14th straight loss for the Beavers tying A-C Valley for the longest losing skid in the District.

The Mountain Lions (8-2) scored on 10 of their 12 possessions and led DuBois 55-0 at intermission.

Along the way, Altoona quarterback Joey Kleiner completed 7 of 13 passes for 208 and four touchowns, all of it coming in the first half. Do-it-all senior Brendan Perretta scored two touchdowns on a run of 61 yards and a pass from Kleiner covering 39 yards.

After watching his team pile up 373 yards of offense in the first half, Altoona head coach Phil Riccio pulled his starters and did not order a pass the entire second half.

Altoona, which limited the DuBois offense to eight yards in the first half, outgained the Beavers, 514-192.

DuBois found some success in the second half offensively against the Altoona backups. Sophomore quarterback Joe Wanson and senior split end Mark Jones enjoyed a successful combination, hooking up for a 46-yard TD play with 2:48 left in the third quarter.

Wanson completed 6 of 9 passes for 155 yards, all of it going to Jones.

The Beavers’ other touchdown went to Travis Snyder, who scored on his only carry of the game from two yards out with 5:52 left in the fourth quarter.

DuBois wrapped up the season at 0-10, its first winningless season in modern history.

Altoona’s 10 scoring posessions averaged a little over four plays per drive and five of the eight first-half touchdowns came on possessions of two plays or fewer.

Perretta, who touched the ball only three times offensively and accounted for 136 yards, scored on the second play of the game on a 61-yard run.

The DuBois offense did not enter Altoona territory until its first touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter.
