PORT ALLEGANY – Kane jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead on its way to a 34-17 win over Port Allegany in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Port Allegany. The Wolves had increased their lead to 28-0 by halftime and then without a mini-rally by the Gatos, who outscored Kane 17-6 in the second half, to get the win. Justin Jefferds scored Kane’s first points of the year on a 5-yard run in the first quarter that capped a 9-play, 65-yard drive. The first of four straight extra points by Jared Cecchetti made the score 7-0 Kane. Kane quickly made the score 14-0 on a 2-yard run by quarterback Tyler Smith. Smith’s scored capped a 12-play, 55-yard drive. The Wolves weren’t done in the opening quarter, yet, as Mike Jamerson made the score 21-0 on a 1-yard plunge late in the quarter after Port Allegany turned the ball over deep in its own territory setting up Kane at the 1-yard line. Kane continued to run away with the game in the second quarter when Jamerson scored from four yards out capping a 47-yard drive by the Wolves. Port Allegany tried to rally after halftime using a big special team’s play to get its first points of the season. Kyle Andrieano knifed through the line to block a Kane punt out of the end zone for a safety cutting the Wolves lead to 28-2. The Gators then struck again on a 44-yard pass from Craig Flint to Matt Rankin. Casey Pettys’ extra point brought the Gators to within 19 at 28-9. Kane, though, answered the Port Allegany score with a 57-yard drive capped by a 1-yard scoring run by Smith. The extra point was no good, but Kane now led 34-9.
