MARTIN LEADS PUNXSUTAWNEY OVER DUBOIS

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Quarterback Joe Martin and the Punxsutawney Chucks had their way with the DuBois Beavers in a 34-0 victory at Jack F. LeMarca Stadium Friday night.

Martin ran for a touchdown and passed for another, both coming in the first half, as he completed 8 of 12 passes for 187 yards and ran for 88 yards on 18 attempts. But it wasn’t just Martin. The Chucks amassed 515 yards of offense, including 328 on the ground.

Martin’s 5-yard run opened the scoring with 5:21 left in the second quarter. Then as time ran out in the first half, Martin passed to Kyle Barilar for a 47-yard touchdown.

Following Dustin Guidash’s two-point conversion run, the Chucks led 14-0. The last-second score served as a momentum boost for the Chucks going into the second half.

Punxsutawney scored touchdowns on three of its first four possessions of the second half to put the game away. Guidash scored on a 3-yard run with 4:06 left in the third quarter, then went in from six yards out with 13.5 seconds left in the quarter to make it 28-0 following the point-after kick.

With the Chucks’ starters on the bench during the entire fourth quarter, backup fullback Gary Krach scored on a 3-yard run with 6:33 left in the game to close the scoring.

Punxsutawney (2-0 overall, 1-0 District 9 League) dominated statistically, limiting DuBois (0-2, 0-1) to 184 yards of offense. The Beavers have yet to score an offensive touchdown this season.

Both teams play District 9 League games next week at home, Punxsutawney against Bradford and DuBois against Brookville.
