By Dean Altemus LEWISTOWN – Indian Valley defeated Clearfield 42-15 Friday night in an inter-district football game at Indian Valley. Indian Valley scored first on a field goal with 5:51 left in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead. The Warriors made the score 11-0 early in the second quarter after capping off a sustained drive with their first touchdown of the contest and a two-point conversion. With 4:12 left to go in the first half, Indian Valley’s tailback Lucas Stewart looked liked he was hemmed in at his own 30, but he broke free around end and raced 70 yards to pay dirt and an 18-0 lead. Clearfield battled back scoring on a 54-yard run by Dave Richards, but that was all the Bisons mustered in the first half. Indian Valley was able to add three more point on a field goal with eight second left before halftime to go into the half with a 21-8 lead. Clearfield got the ball to start the second half, but the Warriors swarming defense forced a punt. The Bisons defense showed renewed vigor to start the half knowing they were only down by two touchdowns. They slowed Indian Valley’s defense and forced a punt. The Warriors punter got a good bounce on the ball putting Clearfield inside the 20. Working out of the hole, the Bisons soon had a third and less than two yards to go. But a 20-yard pass sailed over the would-be receivers head and forced another punt. Disaster struck for the Bisons, as the punt was blocked and a Warriors scooped up the pigskin and trotted into the end zone to make the score 28-8. Indian Valley scored on more time in the third quarter off a nice pass play, and five second into the final stanza the Warriors scored their final touchdown of the night to take a 42-8 lead. Clearfield’s only long drive of the night came when most of Indian Valley’s starters were standing on the side line. The drive ended with fullback Josh Harbold scoring on a 1-yard run with 51 seconds left in the game. Rob Kulling’s extra point was good. |
