EMPORIUM – The Kane Wolves remained the AML's only undefeated team with a 27-20 win over Cameron County on Friday night.

The Red Raiders shut down the run, so the Wolves went to the air for the win. Tyler Smith came up big throwing for three touchdowns and running for one to lead the Wolves. Smith finished the night 12-for-20 passing for 118 yards.

Kane scored on its first possession of the game when Tyler Smith hit Tim Smith with a 14-yard TD pass on fourth-and-9. Jared Cecchetti's PAT gave Kane a 7-0 lead with 7:02 left in the first quarter.

The teams exchanged possessions without scoring as the first quarter ended 7-0.

The Wolves hit pay dirt on their opening drive of the second quarter when Smith found Hugh Rich alone in the end zone with a 3-yard TD pass. The PAT failed, and Kane looked to be in control 13-0.

Cameron County had other ideas.

On the next drive on second-and-8, Adam Kesterholt went 65 yards untouched for Cameron County’s first score. The PAT was good and Kane's lead was 13-7.

The Red Raiders defense held Kane on its next possession, and Cameron County put together a 69-yard drive capped off by Kyle Vogt's 1-yard TD run. The PAT was good and Cameron County led 14-13 with 3:40 left in the half.

The Wolves offense would answer with a 53-yard drive.

On fourth-and-2 from the 46, Smith would scramble and find Rich for 32 yards and a first down to keep the drive alive. Smith threw a 14-yard TD on second down to tight end Andy Cecchetti and found Jefferds for the two-point conversion to give Kane a 21-14 halftime lead.

The Wolves defense came up big in the second half.

After a Steve Chittester interception, Kane would score on a 1-yard TD run by Smith. The PAT failed, and Kane led 27-14.

The Red Raiders offense struck again when Vogt's pass was deflected and almost intercepted but landed in the arms of Scott Aikens who went 63 yards for the score. The PAT was good, and Kane's lead was cut to 27-20.

The rest of the game was a defensive battle marred by turnovers.

Kane turned the ball over two times deep in its end on Smith interceptions, but Kane's D came up big with a goal-line stand and two interceptions, 1 by Jefferds and 1 by Jake Anderson to give Kane the 27-20 win.
