BROCKWAY SHUTS OUT CAMERON COUNTY |
OCT. 4 WEEK SIX - Brockway 23, Cameron County 0 |
By Regis Felix For D9Sports.Com BROCKWAY – Brockway defeated Cameron County on Friday night 23-0 at newly renamed Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway. The Rovers came out clicking as they scored on their initial possession after Cameron County won the toss and decided to defer hoping the weather conditions involving a very strong wind would give them good field position if they stopped Brockway. Jeremy Sickeri changed that giving the Rovers in excellent field position with a good kickoff return to the Cameron Co. 4. It took the Rovers 8 plays, with the aid of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the Red Raiders, to score. Sickeri capped it off with a 1-yard TD run, and Jon Cantafio added the PAT. In meantime, the Brockway defense shut down the Cameron Co. offense holding the Red Raiders to three first half possessions and a total of 17 plays. The Rovers would tack on another TD with 1:06 left in the half scoring on a 1-yard run by quarterback John Himes capping a 15-play, 51-yard drive. Again Cantafio added the PAT and Brockway led 14-0 at the half. By the time the second half got underway a driving rain added to the poor weather conditions. The Red Raiders came out throwing the ball to start the second half. Cameron Co. quarterback Kyle Vogt completed three consecutive passes and moved the Red Raiders to the Brockway 24 where the drive stalled. Cameron then stopped Brockway on its initial second half possession and got the ball back. On the Red Raiders first play, Nick Pisarcik intercepted Vogt’s pass, and he returned it to the Cam. Co. 13. The Rovers, however, were not able to move the ball, and a 20-yard field goal attempt by Jon Cantafio failed. On their next possession the Rovers had another long drive moving from their 27 to the Cameron County 4. This time Cantafio made good on a 22-yard field goal to give the Rovers a 17-0 lead at the 11:52 mark of the fourth quarter. Brockway would score one more time late in the fourth quarter, as Seth Rhed ripped off a 27-yard TD run. The PAT was no good, and the Rovers led 23-0. Brockway got their running game going as they rushed for 293 yards. Jeremy Sickeri led the way with unofficially 130 yards. Next Friday Brockway will host the Kane Wolves in another AML showdown, especially with Kane losing to Curwensville.
