EMPORIUM – Thirteen first downs, 135 yards rushing, 142 yards passing and 277 total yards. Not a bad offensive night for a team on the football field. However, these are the combined statistics of the Johnsonburg Rams and the Cameron County Red Raiders as they both struggled offensively on Friday night. The Rams ended up finding the end zone late in the third quarter to edge the Red Raiders 7-0. In what turned out to be a defensive struggle, neither team ever got their offenses on track. The closest either team came to scoring in the first half followed a Red Raider fumble recovery by Ryan Clingan at the Ram 30-yard line. After driving the ball to the 14-yard line and stalling, Cameron County’s place kicker Eric Campbell attempted a 28-yard field goal which sailed wide left. The longest drive in the first half also belonged to Cameron County on their last possession before half time. The Raiders started on their 32-yard line and ground out three first downs on nine plays to the Ram 33. A penalty moved the ball back to midfield where Ram defensive back Eric Iorfido stepped in front of a Raider pass and took a knee to end the half. The defensive chess game continued in the second half, as both teams once again experienced trouble moving the ball. After six possessions that only produced one first down, the Rams finally found the magic play that put points on the board. Facing second-and-15 at midfield, Johnsonburg quarterback Greg Wonderly fired a 30-yard pass to Eric Iorfido who had slipped behind the Raider secondary. Iorfido raced the last 20 yards untouched for the lone touchdown of the game. Zach Weber came on to add the extra point to make the score 7-0 with 1:08 left in the third quarter. The fourth quarter produced only two first downs and five punts, as the two teams exchanged the ball eight times. "Of course we are disappointed in the loss," Cameron County head coach Brian Lovett said. "But we will start again on Monday and start preparing for a very talented Ridgway team next week," Cameron County slips to (3-4) and will travel to Ridgway on Friday.
Johnsonburg improves to (2-5) and returns to action Friday at home versus
