BROCKWAY – Andy Martino’s 2-yard touchdown run and Jon Cantafio extra point lifted Brockway to a 21-20 overtime win over Ridgway in a key early season AML South game Friday night at Brockway.

Ridgway (1-1 overall, 1-1 AML South) took a 20-14 lead in overtime on a 3-yard touchdown run by Ryan Mitchell, but the extra point was no good.

The Elkers led 14-6 at halftime, but Brockway tied the game at 14 in the third quarter on a 3-yard scoring run by John Himes forcing the overtime.

A 32-yard touchdown pass from Himes to Tom Bussard put Brockway up 6-0 less than four minutes into the first quarter, but Ridgway took the lead on a 31-yard run by Mitchell and a Tim Johnson kick with 3:44 left in the opening frame.

The Elkers then went up 14-6 on a 15-yard run by Josh Mercer with 7:40 left before halftime.

Ridgway dominated most of the statistical categories earning 18 first downs to 10 for Brockway while outgaining the Rovers 329 yards to 183. The Elkers bottled up the famed Rovers ground game holding Brockway to only 56 yards rushing on 33 carries. But Himes and the passing game picked up the slack throwing for 127 yards.

Himes was 8-for-12 passing for the 127 yards and a touchdown. Bussard caught four passes for 81 yards and a score.

Mitchell carried 14 times for 73 yards and two scores to lead Ridgway. Dave Bundy added 10 totes for 62 yards, while Andy Kelly was 9-for-13 passing for 89 yards.

STRATTANVILLE – Clarion-Limestone withstood three lost fumbles to hold off St. Marys 21-14 in a non-conference game Friday night at C-L.

The Lions (2-0) outscored St. Marys (0-2) 14-7 in the second half to break a 7-7 halftime game and get the win.

C-L led 7-0 at the end of one quarter following a 4-yard touchdown run by Brendan Huwar.

St. Marys forged the halftime tie on a 15-yard run by Rick Luchini just 54 seconds before the half.

C-L went ahead for good at 14-7 a little over three minutes into the third quarter on a 25-yard run by Ben Brooks.

The Lions then built the lead to 21-7 on a 6-yard run by Huwar with 6:11 left in the third quarter.

St. Marys kept the game close on a 17-yard run by Lopaka Huli with 3:25 left in the third.

C-L outgained St. Marys 294 yards to 171 including 270 to 131 on the ground, but the three turnovers were costly to the Lions.

Ben Brooks led C-L with 16 carries for 127 yards and a score, while Huwar rushed 17 times for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Doug Surra paced St. Marys with 18 carries for 72 yards.

BROOKVILLE – Brookville used a 20-point second quarter to erase and early 12-0 deficit and stun heavily favored Clearfield 26-18 in a District 9 League game Friday night at Brookville.

The Raiders (1-1 overall, 1-0 D9 League) won for just the second time in the past two seasons and fifth time in the past three, while Clearfield (1-1, 1-1) dropped just its fourth regular-season game in the last three seasons.

The Bisons looked like they were going to pull away from Brookville early on scoring two first-quarter touchdowns in the first 5:51.

Quarterback Michael Sayers got the scoring started with a 1-yard run 2:04 into the game giving Clearfield a 6-0 lead, and Dave Richards returned an interception 72 yards for a touchdown with 6:09 left in the quarter to give the Bisons the 12-0 lead.

But Brookville responded with three scores in the final 5:47 of the half.

Bill Morrison got the Raiders on the board with a 9-yard scoring run with 5:47 left to cut Clearfield’s lead to 12-6.

A 4-yard run by Corey Santoriello with 4:03 remaining before halftime coupled by Kirk Hays’ PAT gave the Raiders a 13-12 lead.

Santoriello then pulled down a 13-yard pass from Cole Cook with just eight seconds left in the half to give Brookville a 20-12 halftime lead.

Clearfield tried to rally in the third quarter getting a 15-yard scoring run from Richards with 1:08 left in the quarter to cut Brookville’s lead to 20-18.

But a 64-yard scoring run by Santoriello with 7:38 left in the game sealed the victory for the Raiders.

Santoriello had 200 combined yards of total offense including four carries for 83 yards and eight catches for 112 yards.

Cook was 12-for-17 passing for 149 yards and one touchdown. Morrison added 13 carries for 70 yards.

Richards led Clearfield with 19 runs for 90 yards and five catches for 44 yards.

Sayers was 11-for-23 passing for 134 yards.

CURWENSVILLE – Curwensville’s defense limited Elk County Catholic to 147 yards on total offense including 65 yards rushing to lead the Golden Tide to a 21-0 win in an AML South game Friday night at Curwensville.

Curwensville (2-0 overall., 2-0 AML South) built a 14-0 halftime lead and then added a late touchdown to seal the win.

A 33-yard pass from Travis McDonald to Greg Gilbert gave the Golden Tide a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Nate Sipe’s 5-yard scoring run and a McDonald to Brooks Collins two-point pass put Curwensville up by 14 at halftime.

Collins added a 2-yard scoring run with 3:06 left to play.

Curwensville used a balanced attack to get the win.

Doug Swatsworth and Sipes led the ground game each picking up 49 yards, while Collins rushed for 37 yards.

McDonald was 3-for-7 passing for 78 yards and a score, while Gilbert had two catches for 66 yards.

Ted Cherry led ECC’s ground game with 12 carries for 40 yards, while Bob Pearsall was 7-for-20 passing for 82 yards while throwing three interceptions. Matt Eckert caught three passes for 42 yards.

SMETHPORT – The demise of the Smethport Hubbers might have been a bit over dramatized after their Week One loss at home to Elk County Catholic. In Week Two, the Hubbers beat Youngsville 35-0.

Mike Mitchell led a balanced rushing attack (324 total yards rushing) carrying the ball 17 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

Ben Rothermel added 71 yards and one touchdown on seven carries, while Eric Alter (13 tackles) and Andy Rounsville (10 tackles) paced the defense, which limited Youngsville (1-1 overall, 1-1 AML North) to 159 total yards of offense.

Smethport (1-1, 1-1) got on the board in the first quarter on a drive that will go down in history. The Hubbers used 15 plays to drive the ball 99 yards with Mitchell putting Smethport up 7-0 on a 16-yard scoring run.

The Hubbers added two more scores in the second quarter to take a 21-0 halftime lead.

The first touchdown came on a 24-yard run by Rounsville that was set up by a Zach Park’s fumble recovery at the Youngsville 34-yard line.

Mitchell then scored his second touchdown of the game on a 64-yard run.

The score remained 21-0 until the fourth quarter when Rothermel scored from 27-yards out and Jesse Hewitt scored on a 35-yard interception return.

DUKE CENTER – Sheffield built a 28-14 halftime lead and cruised to a 35-14 win over Otto-Eldred in an AML South game Friday night at Otto.

The game proved costly for the Terrors (0-2 overall, 0-2 AML North) who lost starting quarterback Joey Drake to a dislocated shoulder according to the Olean Times Herald.

Sheffield (1-1, 1-1) struck first scoring on a 20-yard run by quarterback Nik Obenrader to take a 7-0 lead.

But Otto-Eldred fought right back tying the game at seven on a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown by Josh Barnish.

The Wolverines went right back on top on a 4-yard run by Lee Scott giving them a 14-7 advantage.

But Otto-Eldred once again responded tying the game at 14 on a 6-yard pass from Drake to Adam McKee in the second quarter.

But it was all Sheffield from there.

The Wolverines took the lead for good on a 7-yard scoring run by Obenrader, and the Obenrader found Robin Copley for a 41-yard scoring strike and the 28-14 halftime lead.

Sheffield’s last score came in the fourth quarter on a 54-yard pass from Obenrader to Percy Travilion.

Jimmy Mosher led Sheffield with 20 carries for 115 yards, while Obenrader was 6-for-10 passing for 177 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Obenrader also ran 15 times for 60 yards. Copley caught two passes for 106 yards and a score.

OLEAN, N.Y. – For the second straight week Bradford couldn’t hold an early lead, as Olean (NY) toppled the Owls 31-14 in the 105^th meeting between the two cross-state rivals.

Bradford (0-2) led 14-6 early and still held a 14-12 lead at halftime, but for the second straight week the Owls failed to score in the second half being outscored 19-0 by the Huskies (1-0).

Olean got the game’s first score and a 6-0 lead on an 11-yard run by Brandon Kiffer in the first quarter.

But Bradford answered back with two scores of its own to take the 14-6 lead.

The first touchdown came on a 62-yard run by Sean Hvizdzak, and Kyle Mac Farland’s extra point made it 7-6 Bradford.

The Owls then struck in the second quarter on a 12-yard run by Shawn Colligan and a Mac Farland extra point.

Olean, though, cut the lead to two point at the half on a 13-yard pass by Kiffer to James Wright.

The third quarter belonged to Olean, as the Huskies scored twice to put the game away.

Kiffer and Wright hooked up again for the first Huskie score of the second half with Wright hauling in a 36-yard scoring strike from Kiffer. The two-point run failed, but Olean led 18-14.

Kiffer then found Jordan Parks for a 45-yard touchdown pass and a 25-14 lead.

A 3-yard run by Kifer in the fourth quarter put the finishing touches on the game.

Despite the loss, Bradford still leads the series 57-41-7.

RIMERSBURG – Pat Rumbaugh came up with two long returns, one on an interception and one on a kickoff, to lead Moniteau to a 21-14 win over a stingy Union team Friday night at Union.

Rumbaugh scored on a 103-yard interception return and on an 85-yard kickoff return to help lead the Warriors (2-0 overall, 2-0) to their second consecutive win under first-year head coach Steve Wilson.

Ben Elliott provided the other score for Moniteau on a 17-yard run.

Union (0-2, 0-2) racked up 264 yards of offense, but the big plays hurt the Golden Knights.

Zach Toven got Union's first touchdown on a 2-yard run in the second quarter, while an 11-yard scoring pass from Adam Milanovich to Dustin Laughlin in the third quarter accounted for the Golden Knights final touchdown.

Steve Saul led Moniteau rushing 18 times for 105 yards, while Elliott added 10 carries for 41 yards and a score.

Clay Kohlmeyer was 4-for-9 passing for 50 yards, while Rumbaugh had three catches for 25 yards and Saul one catch for 25 yards.

Devon Kriebel’s 59 yards rushing on 10 carries led Union, while Dennis Shay carries 14 times for 50 yards and Kory Hawk six times for 23 yards.

Milanovich and Toven combined to go 8-for-16 passing for 119 yards with Milanovich going 4-for-7 for 45 yards and a score and Toven going 4-for-9 for 74 yards.

FOXBURG – West Shamokin scored 24 unanswered points including 16 in the fourth quarter to defeat A-C Valley 24-14 in a KSAC match-up Friday night at A-C Valley.

The Wolves (1-1 overall, 1-1 KSAC) trailed 14-8 in the fourth quarter before scoring two touchdowns to get the win.

A-C Valley had built a 14-0 lead on a 1-yard scoring run by Corey Clawson and a 4-yard run by Colt Burk, but it was all West Shamokin after that.
