MONITEAU 14, WEST SHAMOKIN 9

WEST SUNBURY – Steve Saul carried 15 times for 74 yards and a touchdown to lead Moniteau (3-1 overall, 3-1 KSAC) to a 14-9 win over West Shamokin (1-3, 1-3) Friday night at Moniteau.

Ryan Rumbaugh added 11 rushes for 39 yards, and he caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Clay Kohlmeyer.

Kohlmeyer was 3-for-7 passing for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Trevor Henderson scored West Shamokin’s touchdown in the first quarter.

Moniteau’s defense held the Wolves to 176 yards of offense (146 rushing, 30 yards passing).

West Shamokin’s final two points came when Moniteau took a safety late in the fourth quarter.

"We wanted to avoid punting from our own end zone and giving them good field position," Moniteau head coach Steve Wilson said about taking the safety. 

SHEFFIELD 21, YOUNGSVILLE 7

SHEFFIELD – Sheffield scored three touchdowns on plays of 40 yards or longer to beat Warren County rival Youngsville 21-7 Saturday afternoon at Sheffield.

The Wolverines led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 48-yard run by Percy Travillion after Sheffield perfected the hook-and-latter play. Quarterback Nik Obenrader passed out to Walt Elmquist who lateraled back to Travillion who went for the score.

Sheffield then went up 14-0 when Elmquist caught a 42-yard pass from Obenrader, who finished the game 9-for-20 passing for 136 yards and one touchdown while throwing an interception.

Youngsville answered back late in the first half on a 68-yard pass from Andy Chase to Jamie Blum.

Sheffield put the game away in the fourth quarter thanks to a 53-yard run by Keith Lewis.

Jamie Blum led Youngsville with 17 carries for 101 yards and two catches for 72 yards and the touchdown.  Andy Chase was 4-for-12 passing for 93 yards and a score while throwing three interceptions.

It was the fourth straight win in the series for Sheffield. Since 1986, Sheffield leads the series 9-8, and the Wolverines have won seven of the past eight meetings. Youngsville’s last win game 35-14 in 1998. 

RIDGWAY 21, JOHNSONBURG 0 

RIDGWAY – Quarterback Andy Kelley ran five times for 124 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 92 yards to lead Ridgway past archrival Johnsonburg 21-0 Friday night at Ridgway.

Ridgway (2-2) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 14-yard run by Josh Mercer, and then went up 14-0 on a 40-yard run by Kelly late in the quarter. Kelly, who was 7-for-11 passing, added a 56-yard scoring run 51 seconds into the second half.

The Elkers outgained Johnsonburg 387 yards to 78 on the night including 295 rushing yards to 50.

Eric Bennett led the Rams (0-4) with seven carries for 34 yards.

Tom Buck had two interceptions on defense for Ridgway. 

DUKE CENTER – Mike Mitchell ran for 94 yards and three touchdowns to lead Smethport to a 52-6 win over Otto-Eldred Friday night at Otto.

Mitchell scored on runs of 16 and 14 in the first quarter to help the Hubbers (2-2) to an 18-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. He added a 13-yard scoring run in the second quarter, as Smethport led 38-0 at halftime.

Andy Rounsville added 96 yards rushing for the Hubbers, while Tyler Covert scored two touchdowns on runs of one yard and 55 yards. Also scoring two touchdowns for Smethport was Ben Rothermel (13-yard run; 4-yard run). The other Hubber touchdown came on a 2-yard run by Eric Alter.

Ryan Little scored the lone touchdown for Otto-Eldred (0-4).

Smethport outgained the Terrors 399 yards to 171 including 331 to 44 on the ground.

Otto-Eldred also turned the ball over five times (4 interceptions, 1 fumble). 

BROCKWAY – Only two point after touchdown attempts were made in Friday night’s AML crossover game between Eisenhower and Brockway, one by each team. But Eisenhower’s was a two-point conversion, and Brockway’s only a one-point conversion, and that was the difference in visiting Eisenhower’s 20-19 win.

Brockway’s conversion came on the game’s first touchdown, a 1-yard run by John Himes with 8:05 left in the first quarter. Jon Cantafio extra point made the score 7-0 Brockway.

Eisenhower got to within a point on a 22-yard pass from Jacoby Curtis to Tyler Cathcart with 4:29 left in the first quarter, but the extra point was no good.

The Knights, though, took the lead seven seconds into the second quarter on a 15-yard pass from Curtis to Adam Hoisington. Eisenhower then made its two-point conversion when Curtis hit Bart Moon with a pass giving the Knights a 14-7 lead.

Brockway closed the gap to 14-13 at halftime when Cantafio scored on a 6-yard run. But the Rovers two-point pass was no good.

Eisenhower upped its lead to 20-13 with 8:12 left in the third quarter on a 2-yard run by Eric Sirainni. The extra point was no good.

Brockway climbed to within one at 20-19 on a 6-yard run by Cantafio with 23 seconds left in the third quarter, but the extra point was once again no good providing the difference in the game.

It was a game marked in widely different styles. Brockway pounded the ball on the ground rushing 52 times for 185 of their 232 yards.

Jeremy Sickeri led the way with 30 rushes for 118 yards, while Cantafio had 15 carries for 80 yards and two scores.

Eisenhower, meanwhile, went to the air gaining 207 of their 271 yards passing. Curtis was 9-for-16 for 184 yards and two touchdowns, with Moon catching three passes for 86 yards.

On defense, Cantafio added two interceptions, as Brockway picked off Curtis three times.

WARREN 42, BRADFORD 25

WARREN – Warren outscored Bradford 27-6 in the fourth quarter on its way to a 42-25 win over visiting Bradford Friday night.

The Dragons trailed 19-15 entering the quarter, but quarterback Ben Maljovec scored three times in a four-minute span in the quarter to give Warren the win.

Maljovec, who rushed for 242 yards in the game, scored on runs of five yards, 11 yards and 28 yards with the last two coming after Bradford fumbles. The three scores gave the Dragons a 35-19 lead.

Bradford tried to rally scoring on a 2-yard run by Brandon LaBrozzi with 5:05 left in the game, but Mike Cradduck, who rushed for 140 yards, scored with 2:35 left to close out the scoring.

Bradford had built a 7-0 lead thanks to a 2-yard touchdown run by LaBrozzi, but Maljovec scored on a 43-yard run that coupled with a two-point conversion gave Warren an 8-7 lead.

Sean Hvizdzak, though, have the Owls the lead back on a 53-yard run making the score 13-8 at the end of the first quarter.

A Jake Trubic score early in the second quarter put Warren back up 15-13, but a 5-yard run by LaBrozzi gave the Owls a 19-15 halftime lead.

KANE – Kane scored a touchdown in each of the four quarters to beat Elk County Catholic 28-7 Friday night at Kane. The win puts the Wolves at 4-0 on the season, the only undefeated AML team.

ECC opened the scoring with a 67-yard run by quarterback Bob Pearsall, but Kane tied the game at seven when Tim Smith returned the ensuing kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown.

The Wolves then went ahead in the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Mike Jamerson making the score 14-7 at halftime.

A 6-yard pass from Tyler Smith to Hugh Rich in the third quarter made the score 21-7, and a 3-yard pass from Tyler Smith to Rich in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring.

The two teams had very similar stats with ECC getting 12 first downs to Kane’s 11 and Kane gaining 275 yards to ECC’s 259.

Jamerson paced Kane with 20 carries for 77 yards, while Smith was 6-for-10 for 88 yards and a score.

Ted Cherry led ECC with 13 carries for 107 yards, while Pearsall had six carries for 66 yards. Pearsall was 2-for-16 passing for 16 yards and two interceptions. 

RIMERSBURG – Sophomore Adam Milanovich’s 33-yard field goal with 45 seconds left gave Union its first win of the season and head coach Scott Kindel his first career coaching win with a 3-0 victory over A-C Valley at Union Friday night.

A-C Valley has not allowed a touchdown the last two weeks, but the Falcons are 0-2 in that span losing thanks to five field goals.

Dennis Shay paced Union rushing 27 times for 93 yards, while Milanovich was 5-for-17 passing for 67 yards and an interception while running for 22 yards on five carries.

Dennis Pezzuit had a catch for 15 yards and McKinney had one catch for 12 yards.

NEW BETHLEHEM – Ron Geist and Shane Reed combined for 427 yards to help Redbank Valley to a 30-22 win over Sharpsville Friday night at Redbank Valley.

Geist ran 21 times for 103 yards and two touchdown and caught two passes for 77 yards and a touchdown, while Reed was 12-for-23 for 247 yards and two touchdowns while throwing an interception.

Geist scored on runs of five and six yards and a pass of 60 yards, while Reed also tossed a 33-yard scoring pass to Tyson Truitt, who finished with four catches for 84 yards. Shay Magagnotti had two catches for 30 yards, and Brandon Johnston had three catches for 53 yards.

Pete Monrean had 13 tackles for the Bulldogs, and Truitt had an interception.
