SHEFFIELD 14, SMETHPORT 0 SMETHPORT – Sheffield secured its first win over Smethport since 1964 with two first-half touchdowns on its way to a 14-0 win. The Wolverines scored once in each of the first two quarters and then held on for the win. Kyle Whitney put Sheffield up 7-0 on an 11-yard pass from Jeremy Borst and Borst’s PAT. The Wolverines then struck again in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Jimmy Mosher and a Borst PAT. PUNXSUTAWNEY 43, ST. MARYS 14 PUNXSUTAWNEY – Punxsutawney raced to a 28-7 halftime lead and cruised to a 43-14 win over St. Marys Friday night in D9 League play at Punxsutawney. The Chucks (5-2) led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and scored 14 more points in the second quarter before adding 12 in the third and three in the fourth. Dustin Guidash scored twice for Punxsutawney, while Joe Martin threw three touchdowns passes and ran for a fourth. Guidash finished the night with 47 yards rushing and 46 yards receiving, while Martin was 12-for-20 passing for 145 yards and the three scores. He also ran 11 times for a game-high 139 yards and the score. Doug Surra ran for 82 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown run for St. Marys (2-5). Brandon Bennett was 7-for-15 passing for 100 yards and one touchdown while throwing an interception. Lopaka Hoohuli caught three passes for 65 yards. ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 40, OTTO-ELDRED 0 ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic scored 21 second-quarter point while building a 27-0 halftime lead on its way to a 40-0 win over Otto-Eldred Friday night in St. Marys. It was the second straight win for the Crusaders (3-4) and the 26th consecutive loss for Otto-Eldred dating back to 1999. Shane Funair scored twice in the first half, and Ted Cherry and Matt Eckert also got first-half touchdowns to help ECC to the 27-0 lead at intermission. Andy Bobenrieth and Anthony Tettis each added second-half touchdowns for ECC, who outgained Otto (0-7) 336 yards to 161. Funair rushed 12 times for 122 yards and the two scores, while quarterback Bob Pearsall was 4-for-8 passing for 85 yards, Joey Drake rushed for 17 yards and passed for 77 to lead Otto-Eldred. OIL CITY 22, BROOKVILLE 13 BROOKVILLE – Oil City broke a 7-7 tie with by scoring the first 15 points of the fourth quarter and then held off Brookville for a 22-13 non-conference win Friday night at Brookville. The Raiders (4-3), who have lost two straight since opening the season 4-1, led 7-0 at halftime thanks to a 50-yard pass from Cole Cook to Matt Gilbert. But Brookville could have been up 14-0, as Corey Santoriello dropped an apparent touchdown pass early in the first quarter when the ball came loose as he hit the ground in the end zone. Oil City (5-2), known more for its running than its passing, tied the game late in the third quarter on a 54-yard pass from Cody O’Brien to Matt Karnish. The Oiler then went ahead for good eight seconds into the fourth quarter on an 18-yard run by Jamail Jackson. A two-point conversion pass from O’Brien to Corey Schwab made it 15-7 Oil City. Oil City added to its lead on a 3-yard run by Schwab. Brookville caught a break late in the game, when Oil City fumbled the ball at the Oilers 5-yard line three plays after and interception appeared to have ended all Raider hope. The Raiders were then able to close to within nine points on an 11-yard pass from Cook to Santoriello with 2:07 left to play. The all-important 2-point run failed. Brookville tried an on-side kick, but it didn’t go 10 yards allowing Oil City to take possession and run out the clock. The Raiders outgained the Oilers 281 yards to 260. Cook led Brookville’s attack going 13-for-27 passing for 164 yards and two touchdowns while throwing an interception. Santoriello caught five passes for 51 yards and a score, while Cliff Park had four grabs for 48 yards, Schwab rushed 17 times for 84 yards to lead Oil City, and Jackson added 65 yards rushing. O’Brien was 4-for-10 passing for 88 yards and a score. PORT ALLEGANY 21, EISENHOWER 0 PORT ALLEGANY – Port Allegany won its third straight game and its fourth in five weeks defeating Eisenhower 21-0 Saturday afternoon at Port Allegany. The defeat was the Knights second in a row and eliminated them from AML North title contention while handing the AML North title to Coudersport. Adam Rohrer and Jeremy Tanner scored offensive touchdowns for the Gators (4-3), who also got a 49-yard interception return for a score from Joe Hardes. The defense also set up Tanner’s score recovering an Eisenhower fumble at the Ike 2-yard line. Rohrer finished the game with 17 carries for 95 yards and the score, while Tanner had one catch for five yards and the touchdown. Craig Flint was 9-for-19 passing for 52 yards and a touchdown while throwing two interceptions. Claude Haskins added 58 yards rushing. On defense Rohrer led the way with 12 tackles and an interception, and Dave Darush had 11 tackles and 3 ½ sacks. Eisenhower stats are not available. KEYSTONE 31, A-C VALLEY 7 KNOX – Buck Neely threw three touchdowns and ran for a fourth to lead host Keystone to a 31-7 win over A-C Valley in KSAC football action Friday night. Neely tossed touchdown passes of three and 38 yards to Jared Griebal and a scoring pas of 44 yards to Ben Cobler. He also ran for a 65-yard score. Keystone scored less than three minutes into the game on a 44-yard pass from Neely to Cobler. A Levi Mohney fumble recovery at the A-C Valley eight set up the Panthers next score, as Neely found Griebal from three yards out. A-C Valley looked to gain some momentum late in the first half when Corey Clawson picked off a Keystone pass with 3:54 left, but Keystone’s Shawn McGranaghan returned the favor interception a Clawson pass six seconds later. Neely then hit Griebal for a 38-yard scoring strike and a 19-0 halftime lead. A-C Valley cut the lead to 19-7 early in the second half when Clawson hit Brad Hurrelbrink with a 62-yard scoring strike. In fact the Falcons controlled the second half running 40 plays to Keystone’s 13. But the Panthers used Neely’s 65-yard touchdown run and a 61-yard scoring run from Billy Colwell to put the game away. UNION 20, WEST SHAMOKIN 6 RIMERSBURG – Devon Kriebel ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns to lead Union to a 20-6 win over West Shamokin Thursday night at Union. Kriebel scored twice in the second quarter to help the Golden Knights built a 20-0 halftime lead. Union led 6-0 at the end of one quarter thanks to a 52-yard scoring pass from Adam Milanovich to Darren Laughlin. West Shamokin got on the board in the fourth quarter when Trevor Henderson found Bryan Crytzer with a 7-yard pass. Milanovich finished 2-for-11 passing for 52 yards, while Dennis Shay added 18 carries for 69 yards. Garret Conaway had nine tackles on defense, Darrell Shay had eight as did Dennis Shay. |
