MONITEAU 28, PYMATUNING VALLEY 12 

WEST SUNBURY – Ryan Rumbaugh ran 15 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns to lead Moniteau to a 28-12 win over Pymatuning Valley Friday night at Moniteau.

With the win, the Warriors (4-5) clinched a District 9 Class AA playoff spot and will play Karns City Friday night at Karns City.

Moniteau went up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 7-yard run by Rumbaugh and a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown by Brandon Timblin.

Pymatuning Valley answered back cutting the Warriors’ lead to 14-12 at halftime on a 51-yard run by Steve Blender and a 9-yard pass from Steve Ault to Larry Pifer.

But in the third quarter, Moniteau pulled away on a 43-yard run by Rumbaugh and a 5-yard run by Steve Saul.

Saul carried seven times for 41 yards, while quarterback Clay Kohlmeyer was 4-for-12 passing for 36 yards. Pat Rumbaugh had all four catches. 

RIDGWAY 6, SMETHPORT 0

SMETHPORT – Ryan Mitchell scored on a 5-yard run with 8:30 left in the game to lift Ridgway to a 6-0 win over Smethport Friday night at Smethport.

It was the sixth straight win for the Elkers (7-2), who are headed for the District 9 Class A playoffs, while Smethport (3-6) lost its third straight game and finished with six loses for the first time since the 1976 team went 3-7. 

PORT ALLEGANY 14, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 8

PORT ALLEGANY – Adam Rohrer ran for 123 yards and a touchdown and made 14 tackles to help Port Allegany to a 14-8 win over Elk County Catholic Saturday afternoon at Port Allegany.

Claude Haskins added a rushing touchdown and 10 tackles, and Casey Petteys had nine tackles and three sacks for the Gators (6-3 overall, 6-3 AML North).

Elk County Catholic’s lone touchdown came on an 11-yard run by Matt Eckert, but the Crusaders (4-5, 4-5) failed to score on two late possession in Port Allegany territory including one that went to the Gator 11-yard line.

Eckert led ECC with 93 yards rushing, while Shane Funair had 78 yards. Bobby Pearsall was 6-for-12 passing for 103 yards and an interception. Eckert had two grabs for 31 yards, and Adam Blashock had three for 57 yards. Eckert had two interceptions on defense for ECC.

It was the fifth straight win for Port Allegany and broke ECC’s three-game winning streak.

BRADFORD 31, ERIE STRONG VINCENT 6

BRADFORD – Sean Hvizdzak rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bradford to a 31-6 win over Erie Strong Vincent Friday night at Bradford.

It was the fifth straight win for the Owls, who started the season 0-4 but will go into the District 9 Class AAA playoffs as the two-time defending champions with a 5-4 mark.

Jake Long added 59 yards rushing and a touchdown and 50 yards passing and a touchdown, while Jon Colts, who had only five carries and 11 yards coming into the game, added 12 totes for 85 yards. Ryan Race had two catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Jermaine Selby scored on a 17-yard run for Erie Strong Vincent.

Brian McCullough led the Colonels (5-4) with 54 yards while Selby had 16 carries for 49 yards.

KARNS CITY 54, WEST SHAMOKIN 0

NuMINE – Karns City won its eighth straight game against an injury depleted West Shamokin squad 54-0 Friday night at West Shamokin.

The Gremlins (8-1 overall, 7-1 KSAC) led 34-0 at halftime and kept rolling in the second half against the Wolves (2-7, 2-7), who played without starting quarterback Trevor Henderson and back-up quarterback Craig Kaplon. Two wide receivers were forced into action in the backfield with Todd Cessna playing quarterback and Bryan Crytzer at running back.

With the third-string offense, Karns City held the Wolves to 32 yards of offense.

Meanwhile, Karns City’s Matt Carnahan had another big game running 20 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns on runs of 18, 5 and 10 yards.

Erik Fuhrer added 5-for-8 passing for 67 yards and two touchdowns hitting Nate Wilson on a 20-yard pass and Noll Steiner from 16 yards out despite rainy and muddy conditions all night long.

BROOKVILLE 12, MEADVILLE 10

MEADVILLE – Kerry Swineford caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from Cole Cook with 4:44 left in the third quarter to lead visiting Brookville to a 12-10 win over Meadville Friday night.

In the rainy conditions, Meadville held Brookville’s explosive offense to 186 yards, but at the same time the Raiders defense kept Meadville’s offense, which had scored over 100 points combined in its last two games, to just 10 points and 157 total yards (all on the ground).

Meadville (2-7) went up 7-0 on an 8-yard run by Joe Bennett early in the first quarter, but the Raiders (6-3) closed to within a point on a 22-yard run by Matt Gilbert late in the quarter.

The score remained 7-6 Meadville until the third quarter when D.J. Carven hit a 25-yard field goal to put the Bulldogs up 10-6.

Gilbert led Brookville with 18 carries for 74 yards, while Cook was 5-for-14 passing for 89 yards and a touchdown. He threw two interceptions. Swineford had two catches for 64 yards and the score.

BROCKWAY 41, YOUNGSVILLE 0

YOUNGSVILLE – John Himes threw two touchdown passes to Tom Bussard, and Brockway ran for 305 yards to lead the Rovers to a 41-0 win at Youngsville Friday night.

Himes was 2-for-4 for 103 yards and the two scores with Bussard catching both balls.

Jeremy Sickeri rushed 16 times for 109 yards and a touchdown, and Seth Rhed had 87 yards rushing and a score.

Jamie Blum led Youngsville with 41 yards rushing and 26 yards passing,

ST. MARYS 21, PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA

ST. MARYS – Doug Surra rushed for over 200 yards for the second straight week to lead St. Marys to a 21-0 win over Philipsburg-Osceola Friday night at St. Marys.

Surra rushed 33 times for 201 yards and two touchdowns, as St. Marys (3-6) outgained P-O 274 to 107.

Brandon Bennett gave the Dutchmen a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run four seconds into the second quarter. Surra then made it 21-0 at halftime on runs of 39 and 9 yards later in the quarter.

CURWENSVILLE 35, SHEFFIELD 2

SHEFFIELD – Brooks Collins rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns to lead Curwensville to a 35-2 at Sheffield Saturday afternoon.

Gary Kephart added 64 yards and a touchdown for the Golden Tide who outgained Sheffield 324 yards to 81.

Travis McDonald was 5-for-9 passing for 77 yards and an interception for Curwensville (6-3).

Sheffield scored with one minute left in the game when Brandin Nelson was tackled in the end zone for a safety. 

TYRONE 20, PUNXSUTAWNEY 12 

PUNXSUTAWNEY – On an ugly night in Punxsutawney, Tyrone was just a little better than the host Chucks coming out with a 20-12 win Friday.

Punxsutawney outgained Tyrone 262 yards to 230 and forced three turnovers to two, but in a game that featured 10 fumbles the biggest might have come in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 14-6 and with the ball at its 5-yard line, Punxsutawney fumbled the ball and Tyrone’s Max Soellner picked up the ball and went four yards for a touchdown and a 20-6 win.

Punxsutawney won’t fold cutting the lead to eight points on a 25-yard pass from Joe Martin to Andy Snyder. But it was a little too late for the Chucks.

Tyrone got an early 7-0 lead on a first quarter touchdown by Ben Gummo.

Punxsutawney cut the lead to 7-6 on a 7-yard run by Dustin Guidash, but Tyrone went up 14-6 at halftime on a 10-yard pass from Tyler Mertiff to Tommy Crowl.

Guidash led Punxsutawney with 25 carries for 141 yards and a score. Martin was 6-for-12 passing for 82 yards. 

REDBANK VALLEY 27, UNION 7

RIMERSBURG – Shane Reed ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third to lead Redbank Valley (7-2 overall, 6-2 KSAC) to a 27-7 win season-ended win over Union Friday night in Rimersburg.

Reed scored on runs of one and two yards and threw a 16-yard scoring strike to Brandon Johnston to help the Bulldogs to their seventh win.

Reed finished the game 4-for-13 for 61 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Ron Geist added 18 carries for 132 yards, and Pete Monrean had 18 ½ tackles and two forced fumbles on defense. Tyson Truitt intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble.

Dennis Shay paced Union (2-7, 2-6) rushing 19 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. Devon Kriebel contributed 16 carries for 59 yards, and Adam Milanovich was 4-for-10 passing for 34 yards. Jon McKinney caught two of those passes for 21 yards.
