PUNXSY'S MARTIN NAMED INDIANA GAZETTE'S FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK |

INDIANA -- Joe Martin, Punxsutawney's senior
quarterback/defensive back, is the Indiana Gazette Football Player of the
Week for Week Two. Martin was 8-for-12 passing for 187 yards and 1 touchdown (D9Sports.Com stats) against DuBois last week in a 34-0 win that helped the Chucks to a 2-0 start. He also ran 18 times for 88 yards and a score in the game. So far this season he is the second-leading passer in District 9 going 22 of 32 for 401 yards and three touchdowns. For his career he is 138-for-211 for 1,947 yards and 12 touchdowns while throwing 15 interceptions. Martin is trying to help Punxsutawney to its first winning season since 1991 when the Chucks went 8-4 and won the District 9 Class AAA title. The last time the Chucks finished .500 was in 1996 and 1997 when they were 5-5 both years.
