CLEARFIELD'S RICHARDS BREAKS DISTRICT 9 CAREER TOUCHDOWN MARK |
DUBOIS – With six touchdowns in Clearfield’s 42-7 win over Punxsutawney in the District 9 Class AAA title game Friday night (Nov. 8, 2002) at DuBois, the Bisons Dave Richards became the all-time District 9 touchdown leader. Richards brooked the District 9 mark of 73 held by Kyle Cathcart on a 10-yard run with 56 seconds left in the third quarter. He had tied the record on a 43-yard run with 5:06 left in the second quarter. Richards, who scored on runs of 54, 34, 86, 43, 10 and 16 yards against Punxsutawney now has 75 career touchdowns including 37 this season. In the game, Richards also went over 2,000 yards on the season – he now has 2,294. He also moved closer to passing Cathcart on the district’s all-time rushing yardage chart. With 4,427 yards, Richards is 22 yards shy of Cathcart’s 4,449 career yards. Brockway’s Aaron Cantafio is the all-time leader with 4,694 yards. Richards, a senior, will get a shot at both Cathcart and Cantafio’s marks next week in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs. |
