WEEK SIX PREVIEW STORIES

Oct. 2-4

By Chris Rossetti and Rich Rhoades

SHIPPENVILLE – It is time for the 2003 football season to start heading down the home stretch.

Five weeks are in the book and the playoff chase is down to a four-week battle for teams in the KSAC and D9 Leagues and a three-week battle in the AML. It is the time of year when some teams realize their seasons are coming to a close while others look forward to a playoff push.

Week Six has some exciting games on the menu including three feature games of the week in Clarion-Limestone at Clarion, Karns City at Moniteau and Bradford at Brookville.

A look at all the games in District 9 this week follows.

GAMES OF THE WEEK

Friday

Clarion-Limestone (5-0 overall, 4-0 KSAC) at Clarion (4-1, 3-1); 7 p.m.

Karns City (4-1 overall, 4-1 KSAC) at Moniteau (4-1, 4-0); 7 p.m.

Bradford (5-0 overall, 3-0 D9 League) at Brookville (5-0, 3-0); 7 p.m.

GAME CAPSULES

AML NORTH

Otto-Eldred (3-2 overall, 3-2 AML North) at Coudersport (5-0, 5-0)

WHERE

Coudersport

WHEN

Friday, 7 p.m.

LAST WEEK

Otto-Eldred lost to Port Allegany 28-0

Coudersport beat Smethport 9-0

GAME NOTES

  • Coudersport could clinch the AML North title for the second straight year with a win and a Port Allegany loss. The Falcons hold a 1-game lead over Port Allegany with three games to play and would hold the tiebreaker over the Gators on the basis of head-to-head play. The Falcons could also take a big step toward securing a District 9 Class A playoff bid for the third consecutive season.
  • Otto-Eldred’s season could be at a crossroads. Already a succes based on the past few seasons’ struggles, the Terrors still have a chance to make the District 9 Class AA playoffs. But a loss could dampen that chance.

OTTO-ELDRED

LEADERS

Missing 1 game – RB Virgil Graham (101 carries, 380 yards, 3 touchdowns; 8 catches, 64 yards), QB Luke Breese (38-for-74, 407 yards, 2 touchdowns; 31 carries, 103 yards, 3 touchdowns); WR Tyler Ferguson (10 catches, 108 yards), WR Keith Barrett (8 catches, 121 yards, 2 touchdowns).

Port Allegany beat Otto-Eldred 28-0

GAME NOTES

  • Every game is an important one for Port Allegany as the Gators try to make the District 9 Class A playoffs. If they run the table they are probably in, but a loss could hurt their chances. They still have an outside shot at the AML North title as well, but they would need Coudersport to lose 2 of its final 3 games while they sweep their final three.
