REDBANK VALLEY'S REED NAMED D9SPORTS.COM DISTRICT 9 FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK NINE 2003

14 players named to District 9 Honor Roll

SHIPPENVILLE – Redbank Valley quarterback/defensive back Shane Reed ends the season the same he started it as the D9Sports.Com District 9 Football Player of the Week.

Reed is the final District 9 Player of the Week for the 2003 season after leading the Bulldogs to a come-from-behind 35-34 overtime victory over Keystone in Week Nine Friday night.

He went 14-for-26 passing for 254 yards and four touchdowns, while running 12 times for 30 yards. Reed also grabbed two interceptions on defense. He threw two touchdowns passes in the fourth quarter to rally the Bulldogs from a 14-point deficit including the game-tying touchdown pass to Brandon Doverspike with 1:17 left in regulation to force the overtime.

Fourteen additional players playing in District 9 leagues (including three District 10 schools and one District 7 school) are also being honored this week as Honorable Mention recipients. Their names appear below listed alphabetically by school.

The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by the three founding members of D9Sports.Com. The awards can be given to any players playing on one of the 29 teams who compete in a District 9 League. Those 29 teams include four teams who are non-District 9 teams (Sheffield, Eisenhower, Youngsville and West Shamokin) but play more than 75 percent of their games against District 9 opponents and compete for District 9 league titles. The awards, which are given from Week One through Week Nine, are the only weekly awards given out in the District that represent the district as a whole.

Honor roll members are listed alphabetically by school.
