A-C VALLEY SNAPS 18-GAME LOSING STREAK

FOXBURG – A-C Valley broke its District 9-leading 18-game losing streak by scoring 35 unanswered points to beat Union 35-12 Friday night on Homecoming at A-C Valley.

The Falcons (1-4 overall, 1-3 KSAC) had last won a game Sept. 21, 2001, when they beat Union 57-28.

The win didn’t come easy, as A-C Valley spotted Union the game’s first 12 points in a span of 11 seconds in the first quarter.

Jeremy Craig got the Golden Knights (0-5, 0-5), who know own the longest losing streak in District 9 at seven games, onto the scoreboard first with a 3-yard touchdown. It was only Union’s second touchdown of the season. Eleven seconds later, the Knights found themselves ahead 12-0 when Curtis Hughes returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown.

But after that it was all A-C Valley, as the Falcons scored the final 21 points of the first half to take a 21-12 halftime lead.

Luiz Goncalves’ 19-yard pass to Corey Clawson made it 12-7 Union, and then a 1-yard run by Goncalves in the second quarter gave A-C Valley a 14-12 lead. Goncalves then hit Matt Cangemi with a 37-yard touchdown pass with 40 seconds left in the half to make it 21-12.

The Falcons put the game away in the fourth quarter on touchdown runs of 13 and 32 yards by Colt Burk.

Goncalves was 9-for-14 passing for 167 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for A-C Valley. He also ran 14 times for 63 yards and a score. Burk led all rushers with 137 yards and two touchdowns. Clawson had two catches for 68 yards and a score, and Cangemi had two catches for 56 yards and a score.

Adam Milanovich was 10-for-25 passing for 91 yards and an interception for Union. Craig caught six passes for 61 yards.
