SHEFFIELD 13, EISENHOWER 6

SHEFFIELD – Jim Mosher scored twice to lead Sheffield to its first win of the season with a 13-6 victory over Eisenhower Saturday at Sheffield.

Mosher scored on runs of 41 and four yards to help the Wolverines (1-2 overall, 1-2 AML North) get into the win column.

Eisenhower, who was forced to play without starting running back Mark Collins, who was ejected from last week’s game, struggled to move the football managing just 120 yards of total offensive including just 58 yards rushing on 35 carries. The Knights only points came from the leg of Jason Passinger who hit two 27-yard field goals.

Sheffield’s offense wasn’t much better picking up 138 yards of offense including 115 on the ground on 35 carries. All of the Wolverines points came in the first half, as they built a 13-3 halftime lead.

Eisenhower had a chance to get back in the game at the start of the second half when Brad Adams returned the second-half kickoff to the Sheffield 9-yard line. But the Knights offense couldn’t get moving and had to settle for a 31-yard field goal attempt by Passinger. But the kick was no good, and the momentum returned to the Wolverines.

After Passinger’s second field goal made it 13-6, Eisenhower had a shot to cut it to 13-9. But Passinger missed a 39-yard field goal after Sheffield had fumbled the ball away deep in its own territory.

Passinger’s bad day didn’t end there, as he missed a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Mosher led the Sheffield attack with 16 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game with a sprained ankle. Wolverine quarterback Jeremy Borst was 1-for-7 passing for 23 yards and two interceptions before being yanked in favor of Robin Copley, who went 0-for-3.

PORT ALLEGANY 33, SMETHPORT 7

SMETHPORT – Claude Haskins rushed for 230 yards and two touchdowns, and Bobby Nichols added 129 yards rushing and three touchdowns to lead Port Allegany to a 33-7 win over Smethport Friday night in AML North action.

As a team, Port Allegany (3-0 overall, 3-0 AML North) put up 461 yards of total offense including 415 on the ground. Haskins needed 33 carries for his 230 yards, while Nichols gained his 129 on 18 totes. Jeremy Tanner added six rushes for 57 yards. Haskins added eight tackles and a sack on defense for the Gators.

Smethport got the game's first touchdown when Tyler Covert returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

Port Allegany tied the score in the second quarter when Haskins capped an 8-play, 45-yard drive with a 1-yard scoring run. Haskins then gave the Gators the lead for good scoring on a 1-yard run after a 5-play, 26-yard drive. The two Haskin touchdowns put Port Allegany ahead 14-7 at halftime.

In the second half, Nichols took over scoring on runs of 18, 1 and 33 yards with the last two coming in the fourth quarter breaking the game wide open.

Smethport managed just four first downs and 89 yards of total offense on the night including just 58 yards rushing on 31 carries. Individual statistics for the Hubbers were not available.

OTTO-ELDRED 7, YOUNGSVILLE 0

DUKE CENTER – Otto-Eldred is quickly putting its 27-game losing streak that ended in Week Nine 2002 in the rearview mirror. Thanks to a 7-0 win over Youngsville Friday night at Otto, the Terrors have now won three of their past four games and are 2-1 on the season, a game back of first place Port Allegany and Coudersport in the AML North.

Virgil Graham ran 36 times for 113 yards and scored the games lone touchdown to lead Otto-Eldred’s offense.

Meanwhile, the Terrors defense held Youngsville (1-2, 1-2) to 140 total yards off offense including 92 yards rushing.

Kyle Macfarlane also kicked two field goals for the Owls hitting from 36 yards out and 28 yards away.

On defense, Jeff Kleinberger had an interception for Bradford, while Scott Abrams and Jon Colts each had fumble recoveries.

Bradford led just 9-0 at halftime and 12-0 midway through the third quarter. But a Punxsutawney fumble at its own 27-yard line that Colts recovered for Bradford helped break the game open. Hvizdzak scored on a 16-yard run three plays after the fumble giving Bradford a 20-0 lead.

MONITEAU 68, UNION 7

WEST SUNBURY – Moniteau scored seven first half touchdown, two on long returns, to wallop Union 68-7 in a KSAC game Friday night at Moniteau.

BROOKVILLE 14, DUBOIS 7

BROOKVILLE — The Brookville Raiders limited DuBois to 16 yards rushing and got two strong performances off the bench to beat the Beavers, 14-7, in a District 9 League contest Friday night.

The Raiders (3-0 overall, 2-0 D-9 League) beat the Beavers (1-2, 1-1) at home for the first time since 1994 and are 3-0 for the first time since 1989.

Raiders quarterback Matt Mohney, who replaced injured starter Nick
Heschke, completed 9 of 14 passes for 83 yards and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Brent Puller to break a 7-7 tie midway through the third quarter. Mohney also gained 54 yards on 15 carries.

Tailback Ryan Dinger, replacing injured starter Matt Gilbert, rushed for 80 yards on 20 attempts and scored the first touchdown on an 8-yard run in the first quarter.

The Raiders' defense bottled up the Beavers' running game, dropping scrambling Beavers quarterback Joe Wanson for minus-29 yards on six attempts, which included five sacks. That number helped limit the Beavers to 16 yards on 26 carries.

DuBois tied the game when Wanson scored from one yard out in the final minute of the second quarter.

Both teams travel this week. The Raiders head to St. Marys for a District 9 League game while DuBois treks to State College to take on a Little Lions squad coming off a big win over Altoona.

CLEARFIELD 37, INDIAN VALLEY 22

HYDE — The Clearfield Bisons took advantage of six Indian Valley turnovers and put together their best effort of the season in a 37-22 victory at the Bison Sports Complex Friday night.

And to make it a little easier, the Bisons (1-2) scored 17 points off Indian Valley turnovers.

The Bisons beat Indian Valley for the second straight time, winning 41-12 in the PIAA playoffs last year.

The game was a back-and-forth affair until the second half. The Bisons led 17-14 at intermission after kicker Ryan Johnson booted a 29-yard field goal with six seconds left in the first half.

Indian Valley (1-2) took its only lead of the game on the first possession of the second half, ending the drive on Derek Weaver’s 43-yard run. Quarterback Greg Miskinis’ two-point conversion run made it 22-17 at the 8:33 mark of the third quarter.

But Clearfield scored on its next three possessions to put the game away. Harbold’s 5-yarder capped a 62-yard drive and his 51-yarder coming on a nice cutback to the inside put the Bisons up 30-22 with 1:01 left in the third.

Kelly’s 13-yard TD pass to Scoggins came four plays after Scoggins intercepted Miskinis at the IV 40 and returned it to the 25 to make it 37-22.

Indian Valley’s passing game combined for a 1-for-15 effort for no yards and three interceptions. Sophomores Beau Ryan and Shane Davis also picked off passes for the Bisons.

Clearfield travels to Punxsutawney Friday.

BROCKWAY 49, JOHNSONBURG 20

BROCKWAY — The Brockway Rovers put up 342 yards of rushing and found the end zone six times in the first half on their way to a 49-20 rout of visiting Johnsonburg in Allegheny Mountain League action Friday night.

RIDGWAY 20, KANE 14

KANE — The Ridgway Elkers scored a big early-season win, knocking off defending Allegheny Mountain League champion Kane, 20-14, Friday night.

The win kept the Elkers (2-1) in the race for the AML South Division and the District 9 Class A playoffs. More than one loss will likely make it difficult for a team to make the playoffs. The Elkers will need help in the AML South, since their loss has come to unbeaten Brockway.

Three different Elkers scored touchdowns. Beau Iorfido scored from one yard out in the first quarter, TimWright ran for a 12-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Tom Buck's 14-yard TD run early in the fourth built a 20-7 lead.

Kane (1-2) got touchdowns from Steve Chittester and quarterback Mike Giordano. Chittester returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and Giordano scored on a 3-yard run midway through the fourth.

Buck led the Elkers with 95 yards rushing on 11 carries. Quarterback Garrett Viglione completed 9 of 12 passes for 119 yards. Buck also caught four passes for 50 yards.

This Friday, Ridgway visits Johnsonburg. Kane visits Elk County Catholic Saturday.

CAMERON COUNTY 12, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 6

EMPORIUM — Cameron County played solid defense with its back to the end zone and held off Elk County Catholic, 12-6, in Allegheny Mountain League action Friday night.

The Red Raiders (1-2) held off ECC on at least three deep penetrations into Cameron territory, two of them inside the 10-yard line, and kept the Crusaders (1-2) out of the end zone.

Cameron County broke a 6-6 tie in the fourth quarter when Keith Horning ran four yards for a touchdown with 6:48 remaining.

Both teams scored touchdowns in the first quarter. Adam Kesterholt got Cameron on the board first, scoring on a 10-yard run. ECC quarterback Andrew Blazek threw a 29-yard pass to Randy Pearsall to tie the game at 6-6 with 25 seconds left in the first half.

The yardage totals were nearly identical, with ECC outgaining Cameron, 216-212. Kesterholt led Cameron County with 105 yards rushing on 27 carries. For ECC, Blazek completed 6 of 14 passes for 118 yards.

Cameron County visits Curwensville Friday. Elk County Catholic hosts Kane Saturday.
