BISHOP GUILFOYLE 40, A-C VALLEY 0

ALTOONA – Bishop Guilfoyle took advantage of a mistake-prove A-C Valley squad to gain a 40-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Altoona’s Mansion Park.

The Marauders (4-0) have now won 18 straight regular-season games, while A-C Valley (0-4) has lost 18 straight regular-season games.

Thanks to the Falcon mistakes, Bishop Guilfoyle had a short field to operate with all afternoon with four of its five scoring drives going 45 yards or less and a sixth score coming on a 16-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown off of a botched punt.

Josh DeStefano and Adam Georgiana each scored twice for the Marauders, who limited A-C Valley to negative six yards of offense in the first half and 38 yards in the game.

Colt Burk led the Falcons with nine carries for 28 yards, while Brad Hurrelbrink had eight totes for 22 yards.

YOUNGSVILLE 6, SHEFFIELD 0

YOUNGSVILLE – Nathan Williams ran for 130 yards and one touchdown to lead Youngsville to a hard-fought 6-3 victory over Warren County rival Sheffield Saturday night in an AML North contest.

Nathan Theuret added 97 yards rushing for the Eagles, who moved to 2-2 with the win.

Sheffield’s lone points came on a 30-yard field goal by Cody Elms.

Brandon Lobdell led Sheffield with 15 carries for 96 yards, while quarterback Jeremy Borst was 5-for-19 passing for 67 yards and one interception.

Zack Bundy had 17 tackles and 2 ½ sacks for Youngsville, as the Eagles defense recorded five sacks in the game. Williams added 12 tackles and Theuret 10 for Youngsville.

BRADFORD 31, WARREN 28

WARREN – Dave Snyder rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries and made 11 tackles to lead Bradford to a 31-28 win over Warren Saturday night in Warren.

Sean Hvizdzak added 16 carries for 117 yards and returned a kickoff for a touchdown to help the Owls move to 4-0 on the season. Aaron O’Toole chipped in with seven carries for 86 yards, as Bradford ran 44 times for 341 yards.

On defense, Brent Raabe led the way with 16 tackles, Joe Reinhardt had 15 and Jake Wells 13.

Kyle MacFarlane also booted a 21-yard field goal that proved to be the difference for Bradford.

KARNS CITY 7, REDBANK VALLEY 6, OVERTIME

NEW BETHLEHEM – Through 48 minutes of football Redbank Valley and Karns City had decided nothing – literally. Neither team was able to score a point in regulation, but in overtime the offensives heated up with Karns City coming away a 7-6 victor Friday night at Redbank Valley.

The Gremlins (3-1 overall, 3-1 KSAC) got the ball first in the extra period. Facing a third-and-goal from the 10, Josh Fiscus broke off a 10-yard touchdown run for the game’s first points. Jake Sweeney then tacked on the all-important extra point giving Karns City a 7-0 lead.

Redbank Valley wasted little time equaling the touchdown scoring on a 10-yard pass from Shay Magagnotti to Shane Reed. Initially it looked like the Bulldogs were going to kick the extra point and go for a tie, but instead they decided to go for two points and the win. Reed’s pass, though, fell incomplete giving Karns City the victory.

Neither teams’ offensives did anything all night. Karns City was held to six first downs and 139 yards of total offense including 42 carries for 124 yards and 15 passing yards. Redbank Valley was limited to five first downs and just 48 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs rushing attack was held to negative 14 yards on 31 carries.

Fiscus led all runners with 17 carries for 67 yards, while Mike Croyle was 4-for-11 passing for 15 yards and two interceptions.

Shane Reed was 8-for-17 passing for 62 yards, but thanks to sacks he rushed 12 times for negative 43 yards. Reed did have two interceptions of defense for the Bulldogs.

Skyler Smith carried the ball 17 times for 27 yards for Redbank Valley.

BROOKVILLE 15, ST. MARYS 14

ST. MARYS – Matt Mohney’s 10-yard pass to Brent Puller, and Puller’s two-point conversion run with 2:17 left in the game helped Brookville to a 15-14 come-from-behind victory over St. Marys in a D9 League game Saturday afternoon in St. Marys.

The Raiders (4-0 overall, 3-0 D9 League) trailed 14-0 going to the fourth quarter, but Mohney hit Keith Ishman with a 30-yard pass 1:12 into the quarter to get the Raiders back in the game.

The score was tied 0-0 at halftime before St. Marys (0-4, 0-1) scored 14 third-quarter points.

With 7:53 left in the quarter, Lucas Wendel hit Lopaka Hoohuli with an 11-yard pass and a 7-0 lead. Then with 1:29 left in the quarter Wendel found Steve Gaul with a 25-yard pass to put the Dutchmen up 14-0.

Brookville had the better of the statistical play outgaining St. Marys 263 yards to 199 and gaining 11 first downs to the Dutchmen’s seven. But penalties hurt the Raiders, as they committed eight fouls for 65 yards compared to just three for 40 yards for St. Marys.

Mohney, starting his second straight game in place of the injured Nick Heschke, was 12-for-22 passing for 159 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Puller had six catches for 68 yards, while Cliff Park had four for 46 and Keith Ishman two for 45.

Kerry Brush led the Raider ground game with 14 carries for 48 yards.

Wendel, making his second start for St. Marys after replacing Hoohuli as the starting signal caller, was 8-for-14 passing for 107 yards and the two scores. Hoohuli caught four passes for 37 yards, while Bobby Kopp added three catches for 45 yards. Brian Cogley led the ground game with 18 carries for 65 yards.

STATE COLLEGE 35, DUBOIS 0

STATE COLLEGE – Greg Gasparato scored three touchdowns to lead State College to a 35-0 non-league win over DuBois Saturday night in State College.

In the second quarter Gasparato caught a 13-yard scoring pass from Kevin Suhey and then had a 4-yard touchdown run. Then in the third quarter Gasparato scored on an 11-yard run with 7:46 left in the quarter to put the Mercy Rule into effect.

State College built a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 4-yard run by Scott Koch and a 4-yard pass from Suhey to Brady Hart.

DuBois (1-3) could get very little going on offense and were outgained 324 yards to 151 including 163 to 57 on the ground.

Joe Wanson led the Beavers attack with seven carries for 41 yards while going 11-for-24 passing for 94 yards and an interception.

Koch ran seven times for 57 yards for State College, while Gasparato toted the ball nine times for 51 yards and caught two passes for 20 yards. Suhey was 14-for-19 passing for 161 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

KANE 9, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0

ST. MARYS – Kane used a suffocating defense to shutdown Elk County Catholic 9-0 in an AML South game Saturday night in St. Marys.

The Wolves (2-2 overall, 2-2 AML South) limited the Crusaders (1-3, 1-3) to just 61yards of total offense including just five yards rushing on 19 carries.

Kane got all the points it would need in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Mike Giordano. The Wolves added two more points in the fourth quarter when ECC’s Andrew Blazek stepped out of the end zone for a safety.

While the Kane defense was holding down ECC, the Wolves offense did just enough to win grinding out 209 yards of offense including 184 yards rushing on 51 carries. Ball control was the name of the game for Kane, as they ran 58 plays to ECC’s 38.

Jordan Martin was the workhorse for the Wolves running 22 times for 117 yards, while quarterback Mike Giordano was 3-for-7 passing for 25 yards and an interception.

Blazek was 7-for-19 passing for 55 yards and an interception for ECC. Chris Zampogna had three catches for 32 yards.

On defense for ECC, Jude Wendel had two sacks.

RIDGWAY 27, JOHNSONBURG 20

JOHNSONBURG – Ridgway barely avoided an upset of major proportions coming from behind to beat arch-rival Johnsonburg 27-20 in the 99th meeting between the two schools Saturday night in Johnsonburg.

The Elkers (3-1 overall, 3-1 AML South) trailed twice in the first-half before tying the game at 14 at halftime. Ridgway then took the lead for good at 21-14 on a 58-yard pass from Garrett Viglione to Josh Shirey with 7:01 left in the game.

Johnsonburg (0-4, 0-4) got to within a point on a 38-yard run by Ted Cherry with 5:10 left in the game, but the Rams two-point conversion attempt failed. Ridgway then got some breathing room on a 6-yard run by Beau Iorfido with 1:39 left to play.

Eric Iorfido gave Johnsonburg the lead just 29 seconds into the game when he caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Imbrogno.

Iorfido tied the game for Ridgway late in the opening quarter on a 5-yard run, but a 67-yard run by Cherry midway through the second quarter gave the Rams the 14-7 lead.

Viglione, however, tied the game on a 1-yard sneak with 39 seconds left in the first half.

Both teams racked up a lot of yardage with Ridgway outgaining Johnsonburg 371 yards to 314. The Elkers had 41 carries for 214 yards while adding 157 yards passing. The Rams had 27 carries for 224 yards and 90 yards passing. The rushing attack for the Rams was quite a change from the season’s first three games when Johnsonburg managed a total of 98 yards rushing while averaging just 1.3 yards per carry.

Tim Wright led the Elker ground game with 17 carries for 106 yards, Iorfido added 11 totes for 75 yards and Viglione had seven carries for 20 yards while going 8-for-13 passing for 157 yards. Josh Shirey caught two passes for 80 yards and Cody Florian had three grabs for 64 yards

Cherry led all rushers with 15 carries for 179 yards, while Tom Launer toted the ball four times for 37 yards. Imbrogno was 11-for-22 passing for 90 yards. Iorfido had four catches for 45 yards, Kevin DeStephano had three for 25 and Greg Wonderly had two for 16.

Ridgway has now won three in a row in the series that dates back to 1901 and 10 of the last 12 games. The Elkers hold the overall series led 48-43-8.

CURWENSVILLE 55, CAMERON COUNTY 7

CURWENSVILLE – In maybe one of the most unlikely displays of offense in District 9 history, Curwensville shocked Cameron County 55-7 in an AML South game Saturday night at Curwensville.

Coming into the game the Golden Tide (1-3 overall, 1-3 AML South) had scored just nine points in the season’s first three games including just seven on offense. Curwensville had not scored an offensive touchdown since the first quarter of the opening game against Eisenhower and had gone 11 quarters without a touchdown. The Golden Tide were shutout last week 28-0 by Coudersport.

But all that changed in the first quarter for the Golden Tide who put up 14 points in the quarter. Then in the second quarter Curwensville added another 14 points for a 28-0 halftime lead, and in the third quarter 13 more unanswered points made the score 41-0. The Golden Tide got the game to 49-0 before Cameron County finally got on the scoreboard.

Greg Gilbert caught three touchdown passes for Dean Swatsworth, who added a touchdown runs. Nick Sipes also scored twice for the Golden Tide, while Gary Kephart and Zach Baer also reached the end zone.

Shawn Carlson caught a 28-yard pass from Kyle Vogt for the Red Raiders lone points.

Curwensville racked up 408 yards of total offense including 327 on the ground. Coming into the game, the Golden Tide had managed just 656 yards of total offense on the season and only 512 on the ground.

Kephart led the Golden Tide rushing attack with nine carries for 93 yards, while Nick Sipes added eight for 67 and Nate Sipes nine for 53. Swatsworth ran the ball 10 times for 52 yards and was 5-for-9 passing for 59 yards and three scores. Gilbert caught three passes for 36 yards.

Adam Kesterholt led Cameron County with nine carries for 32 yards, while Vogt had 12 for 23 and was 6-for-15 passing for 121 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Carlson had three catches for 71 yards, and Nathan Fuenffinger had three for 50.

The game was marred by penalties with the two teams combining for 18 flags for 172 yards. Cameron County was flagged seven times for 83 yards, while Curwensville had 11 infractions called on it for 89 yards.

BROCKWAY 28, EISENHOWER 6

RUSSELL – Brockway scored 28 unanswered points after falling behind 6-0 early to beat Eisenhower 28-8 in an AML Crossover game Saturday at Eisenhower.

The Knights (1-3 overall, 1-3 AML North) scored first when Jameson Curtis hit Mark Collins with a 79-yard pass.

But in the second quarter, Brockway took the lead for good on a 2-yard run by Seth Rhed and Rhed’s extra point. A 48-yard run by Andy Martino gave the Rovers a 14-6 halftime lead.

Rhed’s second rushing touchdown of the day, this time on a 19-yard run, gave the Rovers a 216 lead after three quarters, and Leonard Calhoun’s 8-yard run in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring.

Brockway rolled up 21 first downs to Eisenhower’s five and outrushed the Knights 306 yards to 32 while outgaining them 434 yards to 169.
