KARNS CITY 40, CLARION 20

KARNS CITY – Karns City used three late fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away from Clarion 40-20 Friday night at Karns City.

The Gremlins (4-1 overall, 4-1 KSAC) led 21-14 midway through the fourth quarter when Mike Stitt scored on a 3-yard run with 6:39 left. Josh Fiscus then broke the game open on a 43-yard run with 3:46 left, and Chris Pickett made it a runaway with a 58-yard interception return for a touchdown with 2:31 left to play. Clarion (4-1, 3-1) scored the game’s final points on a 9-yard run by Manny Carpin with three seconds left.

Prior to the final six minutes, it had been a tight ball game.

Dave Larson gave Clarion an early 7-0 lead on a 10-yard pass from Zac Toven before Karns City went ahead 21-7 early in the third quarter on runs on 1 and 20 yards by Fiscus and a 10-yard scoring run by Stitt.

Clarion got back within seven points on a 15-yard run by Larson, who finished the night with 98 yards rushing.

Fiscus led all runners with 21 carries for 142 yards and the three scores.

PORT ALLEGANY 28, OTTO-ELDRED 0

DUKE CENTER – Claude Haskins rushed 31 times for 248 yards and two touchdowns to lead Port Allegany to a 28-0 win over Otto-Eldred in a battle of two 3-1 teams Friday night at Otto-Eldred.

Behind the running of Haskins, the Gators (4-1 overall, 4-1 AML North) rushed 51 times for 318 yards and three touchdowns. Bobby Nichols added 10 carries for 51 yards, and Jeremy Tanner had five totes for eight yards and a score.

Craig Flint was 2-for-5 passing for 30 yards including a 25-yard scoring pass to Jeremy Niece.

BRADFORD 50, ST. MARYS 0

BRADFORD – Sean Hvizdzak ran 12 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt for a touchdown as Bradford rolled over St. Marys 50-0 in a D9 League game Friday night in Bradford.

Aaron O’Toole added 60 yards rushing and a touchdown, Dave Snyder had six carries for 36 yards and a score and Morgan O’Brien had five carries for 62 yards and a score for the Owls (5-0 overall, 3-0 D9 League). Quarterback Mike Austin was 1-for-2 passing with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jake Wells.

EISENHOWER 24, YOUNGSVILLE 0

RUSSELL – Eisenhower scored all of its points in the first half on its way to a 24-0 win over Youngsville Friday night in AML North action.

The Knights (2-3 overall, 2-3 AML North) got all the points they would need on their third play from scrimmage when Brysten Jones went 86 yards for a touchdown.

Bart Moon then added touchdown runs of one and five yards, and Jason Passinger hit a 36-yard field goal with seven seconds left in the opening half to give the Knights the 24-0 lead.

Thanks to the big run, Jones had 130 yards rushing on eight carries. Moon added 14 totes for 104 yards and the two touchdowns.

Eisenhower held Youngsville (2-3, 2-3) running back duo of Rob Theuret and Nathan Williams in check most of the night. Theuret had 11 carries for 36 yards, while Williams had 12 for 45.

WARREN 38, PUNXSUTAWNEY 20

WARREN – Warren had no trouble with Punxsutawney Friday night beating the Chucks 38-20 and in a game that was a lot more lopsided the final score indicates.

The Dragons (3-2) scored on their first three offensive possessions while also adding a defensive touchdown while building a 26-6 halftime lead. Warren then got the lead to 38-6 after three quarters before Punxsutawney (0-4) added two garbage-time touchdowns.

Dan Maljovec got things started for Warren with a 15-yard scoring run in the first quarter, and Shane Simpson added a 6-yard interception return for a touchdown on a botched punt snap to make it 14-0 Dragons at the end of one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, the Dragons made it 20-0 on a 52-yard run by Ben Maljovec before Punxsutawney finally reached pay dirt on a 3-yard pass from Stu White to Cody Meenan. But Warren struck back on an 8-yard pass from Ben Maljovec to Kyle Simpson.

B.J. Salerno’s 8-yard run in the third quarter made It 32-6, and Nick Reynolds 1-yard third-quarter run made it 38-6.

In the fourth quarter Punxsutawney got a 3-yard pass from White to Meenan and a 7-yard pass from White to Meenan to close out the scoring.

Ben Maljovec had another big game for the Dragons with 13 carries for 130 yards and one touchdown while also throwing a scoring pass despite hardly playing in the second half.

White was 8-for-16 passing for 124 yards and three touchdowns for Punxsutawney, but the Chucks were held to just 69 yards rushing on the night.

MONITEAU 48, WEST SHAMOKIN 26

NuMINE – Big plays was the name of the game for Moniteau in the Warriors 48-26 win over West Shamokin Friday night at West Shamokin.

Six of Moniteau’s seven touchdowns came on plays of 39 yards or longer with Steve Saul leading the way with touchdown runs of 47, 39 and 46 yards on his way to a career night that included 20 carries for 237 yards and four touchdowns. The 39- and 46-yard scoring runs came at a crucial moment of the football game in the second quarter after West Shamokin (1-4 overall, 1-4 KSAC) had rallied from a 20-6 deficit to tie the game at 20. The 39-yard scamper put the Warriors (4-1 overall, 4-0 KSAC) ahead 27-20, and the 46-yarder made it 34-20 at halftime.

Moniteau then put the game away early in the second half on a 48-yard scoring toss from Clay Kohlmeyer to Eric Hilliard making it 41-20.

West Shamokin did get a 4-yard touchdown run from Trevor Henderson in the fourth quarter, but a 3-yard run by Saul negated that score.

The Warriors had grabbed the 20-6 lead thanks to a 58-yard pass from Kohlmeyer to Hilliard, Saul’s 47-yard run and a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown by Shawn Manuel. West Shamokin’s six points came on a 21-yard pass from Henderson to Todd Cessna that made the score 7-6 at the time.

West Shamokin was able to tie the game thanks to a 30-yard pass from Henderson to Logan Kaplon and a 1-yard run by Nathan Hayes.

Henderson had another big night for the Wolves going 22-for-38 passing for 297 yards and two touchdowns. But he also threw four interceptions. Henderson was also the leading rusher for West Shamokin gaining 100 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

BROCKWAY 35, CURWENSVILLE 18

BROCKWAY – Brockway finally broke the Curwensville jinx knocking off the Golden Tide 35-18 Friday night in Brockway.

In the previous four years since both teams joined the AML South, Curwensville has ruined Brockway’s dream of a division title. But this year, Brockway got some revenge scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half to take 14-12 halftime lead out to a 35-12 advantage. Curwensville scored its final points with just 25 seconds left in the game.

The running back three-some of Andy Martino, Seth Rhed and Jeremy Sickeri had another big night for the Rovers (5-0 overall, 5-0 AML South) combining for 41 carries, 254 yards and four touchdowns. Martino had 17 carries for a game-high 128 yards and one touchdown, Rhed had 11 totes for 75 yards and two touchdowns while adding an extra point and a two-point conversion and Sickeri had 13 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown while adding a two-point conversion. Martino also had an interception on defense.

Dean Swatsworth was 9-for-17 passing for 130 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for Curwensville (1-4, 1-4), while Greg Gilbert had five catches for 93 yards and two scores.

RIDGWAY 37, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 6

RIDGWAY – Ridgway scored 24 unanswered first-half points on its way to a 37-6 win over Elk County Catholic in an AML South match-up Friday night in Ridgway.

Beau Iorfido scored twice in the first half for the Elkers (4-1 overall, 4-1 AML South), and he finished the game with 12 carries for 51 yards.

Tim Wright, Tom Buck and Robbie James also scored for Ridgway, who also got a safety when a punt snap sailed out of the end zone.

Andrew Blazek scored for ECC (1-4, 1-4) on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.

HOLLIDAYSBURG 42, DUBOIS 17

HOLLIDAYSBURG – Hollidaysburg broke open a low-scoring game with a 21-0 advantage in the third quarter to extend a 14-3 halftime lead into a 35-3 blowout of DuBois Friday night in Hollidaysburg.

Corey Gildea and Gilford Piper each scored twice for Hollidaysburg with Gildea running five times for 26 yards and a score and catching one pass for 51 yards and a touchdown. Piper had 14 carries for a game-high 149 yards and the two touchdowns.

DuBois scored on a 37-yard field goal by Evan Greene, a 1-yard run by Mike Stewart and a 13-yard run by Joe Wanson.

Vance Newell ran 15 times for 84 yards for the Beavers (1-4), while Stewart toted the ball 10 times for 79 yards.

CLEARFIELD 56, BELLEFONTE 13

CLEARFIELD – Josh Harbold ran 25 times for 167 yards and three touchdowns and caught two passes for 34 yards and a score to lead Clearfield to a 56-13 win over Bellefonte Friday night at Clearfield.

Quarterback Tanner Kelly added a 7-for-9 passing performance for 113 yards and a touchdown while also running 11 times for 40 yards and a score. Shane Davis also scored on a 6-yard run for the Bisons (3-2), while Scott Hall returned a fumble 68 yards for a touchdown. Michael Scroggins had four catches for 70 yards.

Bellefonte quarterback Josh Mundy was 8-for-18 passing for 132 yards and tow interceptions, and Josh Jones ran 12 times for 38 yards and two scores.

KANE 32, CAMERON COUNTY 6

KANE – Mike Giordano threw two touchdown passes, Jake Anderson made a successful return after missing the past two weeks and Jared Cecchetti hit three field goals to help Kane to a 32-6 win over Cameron County in AML South action Friday night at Kane.

Giordano was 2-for-4 passing for 57 yards while hitting Alex Fadenholz with a 31-yard scoring strike and Anderson with a 26-yard touchdown. Anderson also ran 12 times for 84 yards. Kyle Oakes was the leading rusher for Kane with 20 carries for 102 yards. Anderson also had an interception on defense.

Cecchetti connected on kicks of 29, 23 and 31 yards to help the Wolves (3-2 overall, 3-2 AML South) cause.

Kyle Vogt scored the lone Red Raider (1-4, 1-4) touchdown with 3:30 left in the game.

SHEFFIELD 16, JOHNSONBURG 13

SHEFFIELD – Robin Copley scored two touchdowns and intercepted two passes on defense to lead Sheffield to a 16-13 win over Johnsonburg Saturday afternoon in Sheffield.

Copley, who ran 15 times for 101 yards and was 4-for-7 passing for 40 yards, scored on first-half runs of 39 and 47 yards to held the Wolverines (2-3 overall, 2-3 AML North) build a 14-7 halftime lead.

Ted Cherry led Johnsonburg with 11 carries for 35 yards.
