WEST SUNBURY – Moniteau took advantage of seven Karns City turnovers, including six fumbles, to defeat the Gremlins for the first time sine 1995 22-20 Friday night at Moniteau.

The Warriors (5-1, 5-0 KSAC) remain in a first-place tie with Clarion-Limestone, while Karns City (4-2, 4-2) falls a 1 ½ games back.

BRADFORD 25, BROOKVILLE 20

BROOKVILLE – Bradford moved closer to its first outright District 9 League title since 1988 with a 25-20 win over previously unbeaten Brookville Friday night in Brookville.

All the Owls (6-0 overall, 4-0 D9 League) need to do to clinch the title is beat DuBois next week or have DuBois lost to Clearfield Oct. 24. Brookville (5-1, 3-1) can still clinch a share of the D9 League with DuBois and Bradford title if DuBois beats both Bradford and Clearfield and Brookville beats Punxsutawney Oct. 17.

On Friday, Bradford built a 19-7 halftime lead and led 25-13 with less than a minute to play but had to hold off a late Brookville challenge that included an on-side kick attempt following a 3-yard touchdown run by the Raiders Nick Heschke with 55 seconds left. But the Owls Aaron O’Toole recovered the on-side kick to preserve the win for Bradford.

Bradford opened the scoring in a very unusual way for it when Mike Austin hit Jake Wells with an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Coming into the game the Owls had thrown just 16 passes all season completing only five of them with two touchdowns. In the two weeks prior to the Brookville game Bradford was 1-for-3 passing for one touchdown.

The Owls made it 12-0 later in the opening quarter when Sean Hvizdzak scored on a 27-yard run, but Brookville closed the gap to 12-7 when Heschke hit Cliff Park with a 12-yard scoring toss with 3:09 left in the first half.

Brookville responded midway through the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Kerry Brush to make it 19-14, but O’Toole for all intent and purpose put the game out of reach with a 26-yard run with 2:05 left in the game.

Hvizdzak had a big game for Bradford rushing 17 times for 140 yards, while O’Toole added eight carries for 99 yards and Snyder 16 for 58. Austin was just 1-for-4 passing with the touchdown while throwing an interception.

RIDGWAY 13, YOUNGSVILLE 6

YOUNGSVILLE – Youngsville (2-4 overall, 2-4 AML North) gave Ridgway (5-1, 5-2 AML South) all it could handle, but in the end the Elkers were able to hold on for a 13-6 victory.

The game was scoreless at halftime before Ridgway went ahead 7-0 on a 10-yard pass from Garrett Viglione to Tim Wright with 7:16 left in the third quarter.

Youngsville came back and made it 7-6 on a 2-yard run by Nathaniel Williams with 2:03 left in the quarter.

Youngsville had a chance to tie the game when Brian Brown hit Ben McGraw with a 40-yard pass to the Ridgway 15-yard line. But on third down from the 16, Brown fumbled the ball with Ridgway’s Brian Slattery recovering with 4:34 left to play.

The Eagles weren’t down yet. Following a defensive stand and a 20-yard punt return by Brown Youngsville was set up at the Ridgway 14-yard line. But once again Ridgway’s defense was up to the task keeping the Eagles from the end zone.

CURWENSVILLE – In one of the more thrilling games of the year, Kane held off Curwensville 21-20 Friday night in Curwensville.

The game was marked by big plays including four touchdowns of 40 yards or longer and two late interceptions by Kane’s Jake Anderson after Curwensville had made it a 1-point game early in the fourth quarter.

Curwensville had three more chances to take the lead, but Anderson picked off two Sopic passes, and the Golden Tide also lost a fumble sealing their fate.

JOHNSONBURG 7, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 6

Cherry, who transferred to Johnsonburg near the end of last year’s football season for unknown reasons, scored on a 17-yard run midway through second quarter. He then added the extra point giving Johnsonburg a 7-0 halftime lead.
