SHIPPENVILLE – For the first time in the five years of the D9Sports.Com Player of the Week award, there are
Tri-Players of the Week for the third week of the 2004 season.
Smethport’s Mike Mitchell and Curwensville’s brother combination of Nick and Nate Sipes share this week’s award. "The performances of Mike, Nick and Nate made it impossible, after a lengthy discussion, to pick just one or two of them," D9Sports.com Tri-founder and Co-editor Chris Rossetti said. "This is unprecedented in our five years of doing the Player of the Week, but all three performances were so outstanding that we didn’t believe picking one over the other would be fair. Most week’s the award sorts itself out. But this week all three of them are very deserving. I don’t see this becoming the norm, but if the situation dictates it we won’t hesitate to name more than one player." Mitchell led Smethport to a 29-0 win over Sheffield Friday night by rushing 19 times for 205 yards and four touchdowns. The Sipes brothers pulled off the rarest of feats when both went over 200 yards rushing in the Golden Tides 48-0 win at Johnsonburg. Nick rushed 18 times for 215 yards and three touchdowns, while Nate added 19 carries for 237 yards and a touchdown while adding an interception on defense. Joining the Tri-Player of the Week are 13 additional players on the District 9 Honor Roll. The honor roll recipients are listed below in alphabetical order by school.
