CLARION'S MCSWAIN; CURWENSVILLE'S NATE SIPES D9SPORTS.COM DISTRICT 9 FOOTBALL CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK FIVE 2004

15 players named to District 9 Honor Roll

SHIPPENVILLE – Clarion’s Chris McSwain and Curwensville’s Nate Sipes are the D9sports.com District 9 Co-Players of the Week for the Fifth Week of the 2004 seasons after helping their teams to wins Friday.

McSwain was a huge factor in the Bobcats 13-7 win over Karns City rushing 34 times for 244 yards and two touchdowns while playing a pivotal role on defense as well. He was instrumental in Clarion’s two long touchdown drives of 99 and 80 yards gaining 71 yards on the ground on both drives.

Sipes, meanwhile, had a huge statistical week for the Golden Tide running 23 times for 301 yards and five touchdowns in Curwensville 51-22 win over Kane, in a game that wasn’t even as close as the final score indicated. It is the second time this season Sipes has been honored as a Player of the Week.

"We believe both players are deserving of this week’s award," D9Sports.com Co-Editor Chris Rossetti said. "Chris McSwain was very key to Clarion’s win in a very close game, while you can’t ignore the numbers that Nate Sipes put up. Three hundred yards and five touchdowns is just sensational. Rich Rhoades and I had a lenghty discussion on this week’s award and in the end just decided the fairest thing to do was reward both players. There were other very good performances this week that merited discussion as well including those turned in by Smethport quarter Matt Switzer, A-C Valley running back Rocco Crapis and C-L quarterback Hayden Johnston. But the performances of McSwain and Sipes were just a little bit above the others, who do appear on this week’s Honor Roll."

Joining McSwain and Sipes in being honored this week are 15 additional players on the District 9 Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recipients are listed below in alphabetical order by school.
