ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 47, RIDGWAY 14

ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic scored 34 unanswered points to defeat Ridgway 47-14 Saturday night at St. Marys.

Ridgway held a 14-13 lead early in the second quarter before ECC scored the game’s final five touchdowns including two by Anthony Tettis.

The Crusaders (3-2) led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter thanks to touchdown runs from John Stager and Anthony Mastrogiacomo. Ridgway’s score in the quarter came on a 1-yard run by Beau Iorfido.

Ridgway took the lead early in the second quarter on a 47-yard pass from Kyle Huber to Kevin Sarginger, but that was it for the Elkers (1-4) offense.

ECC captured the lead for good on a Kyle Mahoney to Scott Meholic pass, and then scoring runs by Tettis and Mastrogiacomo, with Mastrogiacomo’s coming as the first-half clocked expired, made it 34-14 ECC at the half.

Tettis added a 4-yard run in the third quarter, and Andy Herbstritt capped the scoring with a 61-yard fourth-quarter jaunt.

COUDERSPORT 37, SHEFFIELD 20

COUDERSPORT – Coudersport (5-0) jumped out to a 17-0 first-quarter lead on its way to a 37-20 win over visiting Sheffield Friday night.

David Babcock paced the Falcons with 10 carries for 83 yards and three touchdowns, including two in the first quarter, while racking up 162 all-purpose yards.

John Gerhart added a 5-for-9 passing night for 79 yards and two scores for Coudersport.

The Falcons lead grew to 31-6 at halftime and 37-6 at the end of three quarters before Sheffield scored the game’s final 14 points.

Jordan Copley had a 35-yard scoring pass to John Duffy for Sheffield was also scoring on a 46-yard option run.

COATESVILLE 23, DUBOIS 6

DUBOIS – DuBois (3-2) hung with state-ranked Coatesville for three quarters before allowing nine unanswered fourth-quarter points in a 23-6 loss Friday night at DuBois.

Coatesville (5-0), ranked No. 7th in Class AAAA by the Harrisburg Patriot-News and as an "Others to Watch by the Pennsylvania Football News, led 7-0 at halftime thanks to a 4-yard run by William Keylor before making it 14-0 early in the second half on a 2-yard run by Jeff Celucci.

DuBois, which has lost two straight, got back within a touchdown, 14-6, on a 1-yard Joe Wanson run with 26 seconds left in the third quarter.

Coatesville extended its lead to 17-6 on a 32-yard field goal by Chris O’Connell with 5:01 left in the game and then got a 14-yard scoring run from Clinton Gray with 2:15 left.

Coatesville outgained DuBois 260 yards to 198 including 238-68 on the ground.

Gray led all runners with 33 carries for 199 yards, while Keylor added nine for 32.

Wanson was 9-for-20 passing for 107 yards but threw three interceptions including two picks by Mike Maxwell. Derek Bundy had five catches for 37 yards, and Tony Wells two for 46.

BROCKWAY 35, JOHNSONBURG 6

BROCKWAY – Brockway (4-1) used a 22-point second quarter to build a 28-0 halftime lead on its way to a 35-6 win over Johnsonburg (2-3) Friday night at Brockway.

Bobby Liddle ran for 60 yards and two touchdowns to pass the Rovers, while Matt Foradora ran for a touchdown, passed for a score, kicked three extra points and threw a 2-point conversion pass. Foradora finished the night with 75 yards rushing on six carries while going 5-for-6 passing for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Brockway outgained Johnsonburg 314 to 120 including 232 to 44 on the ground.

Anthony Imbrogno was 8-for-15 passing for 53 yards for the Rams.

Brockway led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter on a 5-yard run by Foradora.

Then in the second quarter Ben Donlin scored on a 2-yard run, Jordan Hoover caught a 17-yard touchdown strike from Foradora and Liddle hit pay dirt with a 1-yard run.

Liddle put the Mercy Rule into effect early in the third quarter on a 10-yard run.

Johnsonburg’s score came on a 23-yard pass from Chris Perez to Ian Breakey with 2:44 left to play.

CURWENSVILLE 51, KANE 22

CURWENSVILLE – Nate Sipes ran for 301 yards and five touchdowns on 23 carries to lead Curwensville (5-0) to a 51-22 win over visiting Kane (0-5) Friday night.

Nate Sipes became the first District 9 running back since Clearfield’s Dave Richards in the 2002 playoffs to go over the 300-yard mark. Meanwhile, his brother Nick, added 12 carries for 102 yards for the Golden Tide, who led 24-0 at halftime and 43-0 early in the fourth quarter before Kane scored 22 of the final 30 points.

Kane’s Kyle Oakes ran 12 times for 131 yards and a touchdown while catching a touchdown pass and throwing a touchdown pass.

Curwensville led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter on an 8-yard run by Nate Sipes. A 45-yard run by Nate, a 32-yard field goal by Nick and a 3-yard run by Nate gave the Golden Tide a 24-0 halftime lead.

Nick then scored on a 12-yard run and Nate on a 19-yard scamper to make it 36-0 at the end of three quarters before Nate scored on a 67-yard run with 10:45 left in the game to make it 43-0.

A 62-yard run by Oakes cut Kane on the board, and then Mike Giordano hit Oakes with an 8-yard pass to make it 43-16 with 6:08 left.

Jason Null scored on a 13-yard run to close out Curwensville’s scoring, while Oakes returned the favor with a 5-yard pass to Giordano with 2:15 to play for Kane.

Curwensville outgained Kane 484 yards to 240 and had 20 first downs to 7 for the Wolves.

Giordano was 7-for-21 passing for 101 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Alex Fadenholz had three catches for 52 yards and Oakes two for 34.

PORT ALLEGANY 21, CAMERON COUNTY 0

EMPORIUM – Cody Anderson ran 31 times for 204 yards and two touchdowns and caught one pass for 18 yards and a touchdown to lead Port Allegany (3-2) to a 21-0 win over Cameron County (0-5) Friday night at Cameron County.

Anderson caught an 18-yard screen pass from Willie Bova with just three seconds left in the first half to give the Gators a 7-0 halftime lead. Then with 7:26 left in the third quarter he scored on a 1-yard run before capping the night’s scoring with a 38-yard scamper with 3:54 left in the third quarter.

Bobby Nichols added 15 carries for 44 yards for Port Allegany, while Cash Grimone led Cameron County with 15 carries for 96 yards.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 40, KEYSTONE 0

KNOX – Clarion-Limestone (5-0 overall, 3-0 KSAC) ran its state-leading regular-season win streak to 31 games with a 40-0 whitewashing of Keystone (1-4, 1-4) Friday night at Keystone.

Hayden Johnston threw for 155 yards and four touchdowns, and Scott Davis ran for 140 yards, threw for five and a touchdown and caught three passes for 63 yards and two scores to lead the Lions. Erik White added two touchdown catches and a touchdown run while rushing for 77 yards and catching five passes for 37 yards for the Lions.

C-L picked off Keystone quarterback Mike Switzer six times with White and Tuffy Brooks each coming up with two interceptions.

C-L scored twice in the first quarter on a 26-yard run by White and a 5-yard pass from Johnston to White before adding a 13-yard pass from Johnston to White and a 31-yard pass from Johnston to Davis in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Johnston hit Davis with a 25-yard scoring toss before Davis hit White with a 5-yard pass in the fourth quarter.

C-L outgained Keystone 441-86 including 281-72 on the ground and 160-14 in the air.

Sam Swartzfager ran 11 times for 40 yards for the Panthers, while Switzer was 3-for-16 for 14 yards and six interceptions.

SMETHPORT 29, OTTO-ELDRED 28, OVERTIME

DUKE CENTER – Matt Switzer 2-point conversion run in the first overtime following a 5-yard scoring run by Switzer lifted Smethport (3-2) to a 29-28 win over Otto-Eldred (3-2) Friday night at Otto-Eldred.

The game was tied at 21 at the end of regulation, and Otto-Eldred got the ball first in overtime scoring on a 4-yard run by Vigil Graham that coupled with Eric Freer’s extra point put the Terrors up 28-21.

It was then Smethport’s turn, and the Hubbers needed two plays to score on Switzer’s run. Smethport’s first-year head coach Rob Cosper then decided to go for the win instead of the tie and was rewarded for his gutsy decision when Switzer scored after being hit at the goal line.

The game had a little bit of everything including 10 turnovers (six by Smethport – 4 interceptions, 2 lost fumbles), big plays, missed extra points, key made extra points and two-point conversions and three 100-yard rushers.

Switzer ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries for Smethport while going 2-for-7 passing for 21 yards and four picks. Mike Mitchell added 21 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown for Smethport, which ran for 323 yards in the game.

Graham paced Otto-Eldred with 19 carries for 125 yards and two scores, while Mike Eaton and Brandon Brown each had 10 tackles.

Otto got on the board first on a 28-yard run by Graham, but Smethport answered with a 10-yard Switzer run and an 11-yard Zack Parkes run to take a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Otto-Eldred then used an interception by Ryan Little that gave the Terrors the ball at the Smethport 12-yard line to tie the game on a 4-yard Dan Terrette run and a 2-point pass from Terrette to Little.

The score remained 14-14 until the third quarter when a 37-yard run by Mitchell have Smethport a 21-14 lead.

Otto-Eldred tied the game in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard Chad Bova run. The touchdown was set up by a 30-yard run by Graham that put the ball on the Smethport 9.

CLEARFIELD 56, LEWISTOWN 7

LEWISTOWN – Josh Harbold ran 10 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns and returns a kickoff for a touchdown, and Tanner Kelly threw three touchdown passes to lead Clearfield (5-0 overall 3-0 MAC-7 Mt. Division) to a 56-7 win at Lewistown (0-5, 0-2) Friday night.

It was the first meeting between the schools since 1949 and only the fifth all time for the teams, who are now both members of the Mountain Athletic Conference – Seven Mountains Division.

Clearfield led 42-0 at halftime and then saw Harbold return the second-half kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and a 49-0 lead.

The Bisons got the scoring started with three first-quarter scores including a 44-yard pass from Kelly to Matt Morgan, a 30-yard pass from Kelly to Mike Scoggins and a 51-yard run by Harbold.

Then in the second quarter, Harbold scored on a 35-yard run, Kelly hit Scoggins with a 36-yard pass and Lucas Aughenbaugh scored on a 1-yard plunge.

Chad Snook’s 2-yard run early in the fourth quarter accounted for Lewistown’s lone score, and William Bacharach’s 16-yard run for Clearfield capped the scoring.

Clearfield outgained Lewistown 462 yards to 106 in the game.

LINSLEY (W.VA) 39, MONITEAU 14

WEST SUNBURY – Moniteau (4-1) lost its first game of the season 39-14 to visiting Linsley (W. Va.) Friday night.

Linsley scored on six of its first seven possessions and led 25-0 at halftime and 39-0 before Moniteau could get on the scoreboard.

Tony Walls led the Cadets with 17 carries for 173 yards and two touchdowns, and Jason Pyles was 5-for-7 passing for 92 yards and two touchdowns and ran five times for 52 yards and a score. Walls added two catches for 37 yards.

Matt Schandelmeier ran 18 times for 130 yards for Moniteau, Adam Cousins added eight carries for 13 yards and two scores and Garth Kohlmeyer was 11-for-23 passing for 88 yards and an interception, his first interception of the season. Eric Hilliard caught five passes for 41 yards.

Linsley scored twice in the first quarter on a 26-yard pass from Pyles to John Vellenoweth and a 3-yard run by Walls.

The Cadets then added a 39-yard Pyles run and a 15-yard pass from Pyles to Ryan Kuskey in the second quarter for the 25-0 halftime lead.

Linsley tacked on a 52-yard run by Walls and a 1-yard run by Tyler Jividen in the third quarter before Cousins scored on a 2-yard run with 29 seconds left in the quarter for Moniteau.

Cousins added a 5-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.

HUNTINGDON 34, PUNXSUTAWNEY 7

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Punxsutawney’s David Foster ran 19 times for 99 yards but it was enough, as the Chucks (1-4) lost to visiting Huntingdon (3-2) 34-7 Friday night.

Punxsutawney trailed just 13-0 at halftime, but was outscored 21-7 in the second half.

The lone Chucks score came on a 4-yard pass from Dustin Dubensky to Chad McHenry.

Dan Hooper scored twice for Huntingdon.

Dubensky was 8-for-19 passing for 78 yards, while McHenry had four catches for 70 yards.

NOTE - The Punxsutawney Spirit is also reporting that Devin Mesoraco, Punxsutawney’s starting running back who has missed the last three weeks with an injury is out for the season.

A-C VALLEY 67, UNION 12

RIMERSBURG – A-C Valley’s Rocco Crapis shredded the Union defense for 191 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries to lead the Falcons to a 67-12 win over the Golden Knights Thursday night at Union. The 67 points are a school record for the Falcons.

Crapis scored on runs of 1, 70, 23 and 48 yards to lead the Falcons (3-2 overall, 1-2 KSAC) to their third consecutive win. It is the first time A-C Valley has won three straight games since it won three straight at the start of the 2000 season. The three wins this season also surpass the Falcons total number of wins (two) over the three previous seasons.

Despite the loss, which was its Union’s 16th straight did have a couple of positives for the Golden Knights. First, they scored their first points of the season in a 64-yard touchdown run by Colton Davis in the first quarter. Prior to the game, Union was one of just three teams in the state without a point. Secondly, Davis had a breakout game running 10 times for 137 yards.

A-C Valley scored first on a 1-yard run by Crapis with 7:24 left in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.

Union answered right back with Davis’ 64-yard scamper. The extra point was missed, and A-C Valley led 7-6 with 7:06 left in the quarter.

The Falcons came right back less than 40 seconds later on Crapis 70-yard run to take a 14-6 advantage heading to the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Crapis 23-yard run gave the Falcons a 20-6 lead with 10:25 to play before halftime.

A-C Valley then returned back-to-back punts for touchdowns to go up 35-6.

The first return was a 30 yarder by Hank Heeter off a partially blocked punt with 9:11 left in the half. Then with 7:15 to play before halftime Luiz Goncalves returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown.

A-C Valley put the Mercy Rule into affect on a 38-yard run by Heeter as time ran out in the first half putting the Falcons ahead 42-6 at the break.

A 48-yard run by Crapis and a 9-yard tote by Mike Himes extended A-C Valley’s lead to 54-6 with 4:51 left in the third quarter.

Union got its second touchdown of the game and second of the season on a 1-yard run by Josh Holden with 1:43 left in the third quarter before A-C Valley added two defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter with Jake Heeter recovering a fumble in the end zone for a score and the Falcons returning an interception 33-yards for a touchdown.

The game marked the first time since the 1999 season that A-C Valley has scored 60 or more points in a game. The Falcons did it twice that year.
