BROOKVILLE 38, WELLSBORO 13

WELLSBORO – Brookville (2-5) outscored Wellsboro 18-0 in the second half to get a 38-13 win Friday night at Wellsboro.

Brookville trailed 13-6 following a 1-yard run by Jeremy Walrath with 4:32 left in the first half but quickly responded when Joe Galbraith returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown cutting the Green Hornets lead to 13-12.

Then with 31.4 seconds left in the half, Nick Heschke scored on a 2-yard run giving Brookville a 20-13 halftime lead.

The Raiders expanded the lead to 26-13 early in the third quarter on a 42-yard pass from Heschke to Allen Bowen, and Max Kutz’s 2-yard run with 8:33 left in the game put the contest out of reach. Silas Wonderling added a 50-yard run late to cap off the scoring.

Wellsboro led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 30-yard Shawn Tom fumble return for a touchdown. Brookville had scored first on a 7-yard Travis Diener run.

Heschke was 6-for-10 passing for 135 yards and a score while running six times for 25 yards and a touchdown. Kutz carried the ball 10 times for 79 yards. Bowen had three catches for 73 yards and Matt Mohney three for 62 yards. Kutz and Mohney each add interceptions on defense.

Patrick Coolidge was 11-for-25 passing for 147 yards and three interceptions for Wellsboro (2-5) with Tom catching four passes for 75 yards and Ed Baxter four for 48 yards. Walrath ran 16 times for 62 yards.

KANE 40, CAMERON COUNTY 13

KANE – Kyle Oakes ran 17 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns to lead Kane (1-6) to its first win of the season 40-13 over winless Cameron County (0-7) Friday night in Kane.

Oakes scored on a second-quarter run of 5 yards to give Kane a 12-6 halftime lead and then added scoring runs of 61- and 31-yards in a 20-point third quarter for the Wolves.

Cameron County had actually taken the lead, 13-12, early in the third quarter on a 31-yard halfback pass from Cash Grimone to Dan Frey 2:46 into the half.

But Kane responded with three 61-yard run from Oakes 17 seconds later to regain the lead for good, and then added Oakes’ 31-yard run and a 7-yard run by quarterback Mike Giordano to take a 32-13 lead.

The Wolves added an insurance touchdown on a 12-yard pass from Giordano to Paul Eastman in the fourth quarter.

Cameron County struck first on a 17-yard run by Brian Hastings before Giordano answered with a 1-yard run to tie the game at 6-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Giordano was 9-for-15 passing for 115 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception with Eastman catching four passes for 85 yards while also grabbing two picks on defense. Giordano added seven carries for 31 yards.

Grimone ran 21 times for 74 yards, and was 1-for-1 passing for 31 yards and a touchdown. Hastings chipped in with 11 carries for 71 yards, while Frey had three catches for 54 yards.

The loss officially eliminated Cameron County from the District 9 Class A Playoff race.

SMETHPORT 9, JOHNSONBURG 6

SMETHPORT – For the second consecutive week Johnsonburg lost on an opponent’s field goal as time ran out.

This time it was Smethport’s Dave Vandermark connecting on a 34-yard field goal as time expired lifting the Hubbers (4-3) to a 9-6 victory over the Rams (2-5) and all but dashing Johnsonburg’s hopes for a District 9 Class A playoff bid. Last week, Johnsonburg lost on a last-second field goal by Elk County Catholic’s Ed Geci.

Smethport led 6-0 at halftime thanks to a 72-yard Matt Switzer run with 1:15 left in the half.

Johnsonburg tied the game with 8:57 left to play on a 6-yard pass from Anthony Imbrogno to Judd Zilcosky.

Josh Switzer set up Smethport’s winning field goal by returning a punt 18 yards to the Johnsonburg 49-yard line and then Mike Switzer hit Zach Parkes with a 25-yard pass to the Johnsonburg 23-yard line helping set up Vandermark’s field goal.

The injury-riddled Rams were hurt late in the game by key injuries to starting running back Jesse Dennis and Imbrogno with neither returning to action after leaving the field.

Matt Switzer led Smethport with 14 carries for 129 yards while going 5-for-12 passing for 54 yards but throwing three interceptions.

Dennis ran 39 times for 88 yards, while Imbrogno was 5-for-14 passing for 48 yards.

DUBOIS 14, BRADFORD 7

BRADFORD – DuBois (5-2 overall, 4-0 D9 League) clinched the D9 League Title with a 14-7 win at Bradford (4-3, 3-1) Friday night.

The Beavers trailed 7-0 going to the fourth quarter but scored twice in the first 4:41 of the final stanza and then used a defensive stand inside the 10-yard line late in the game to get the win.

The game was scoreless at the half, but Bradford’s Morgan O’Brien broke a 72-yard run 1:13 into the second half to put the Owls up 7-0.

DuBois tied the game 56 seconds into the fourth quarter on a 2-yard Mike Stewart run. A 57-yard jaunt by Vance Newell with 7:19 to play put the Beavers in front.

The Beavers dominated the statistics outgaining Bradford 356-184 including 312-170 on the ground.

Newell led the rushing attack with 19 carries for 165 yards, while Stewart added 20 totes for 109 yards.

O’Brien led Bradford with six carries for 105 yards.

BROCKWAY 29, OTTO-ELDRED 7

DUKE CENTER – Brockway (6-1) outscored Otto-Eldred 15-0 in the second half to build a 7-point halftime lead into a 29-7 victory Friday night at Otto-Eldred.

The Terrors (3-4) led 7-0 early on a 39-yard pass from Dan Terrette to Nathan Booth, but Brockway took the lead for good, 8-7, on a 15-yard pass from Matt Foradora to Joe Antonuccio and a 2-point conversion run by Bobby Liddle five seconds into the second quarter.

The Rovers built the lead to 14-7 at halftime thanks to a 2-yard Ben Donlin run.

The game remained that way until Donlin’s 1-yard scoring run and 2-point conversion run with 48 seconds left in the third quarter. Then Jordan Hoover returned a punt 30 yards with 4:38 left in the game to put the finishing touches on the victory.

Four running backs combined to total 239 or Brockway’s 232 rushing yards led by 12 carries and 90 yards from Lenny Calhoun. Liddle added 11 totes for 75 yards, Donlin nine for 38 and Andrew Fremer two for 36.

Foradora was 6-for-12 passing for 134 yards with Antonuccio catching two passes for 34 yards.

Virgil Graham led the Terrors with 22 carries for 91 yards, while Terrette was 6-for-19 passing for 77 yards.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 6, SHEFFIELD 0

ST. MARYS – Kyle Mahoney hit A.J. Seelye with a 32-yard pass 3:29 into the game, and the Elk County Catholic defense let the score standup helping the Crusaders to a 6-0 win over Sheffield (2-5) Friday night in St. Marys.

With the win, ECC (5-2) clinches a District 9 Class A playoff spot. It is the first playoff appearance for the Crusaders since 1998.

ECC, playing with out injured running back Anthony Tettis, was outgained 173-162 by the Wolverines.

John Stager led ECC with 15 carries for 64 yards, while Mahoney was 5-for-12 passing for 57 yards,

Damir Carrol paced Sheffield with 12 carries for 59 yards, while Steve Sixt added eight for 34.

Quarterback Jeremy Borst was just 9-for-30 passing for 72 yards and an interception. Sixt had four catches for 36 yards, and he added an interception on defense.

COUDERSPORT 14, RIDGWAY 10

RIDGWAY – Coudersport’s Rob Cavallari returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown moments after Nick Thompson’s 30-yard field goal had give Ridgway a 10-7 lead to help Coudersport stave off an upset with a 14-10 win at Ridgway.

The Falcons (7-0) remained unbeaten and clinched the AML-North title with the win, while Ridgway (1-6) showed remarkable improvement a week after losing to Curwensville 78-0.

Ridgway held a 7-0 halftime lead thanks to a 1-yard Beau Iorfido run with 9:28 left in the second quarter.

Coudersport tied the game with 6:35 left in the third quarter on a 1-yard Jeremiah Wagner run before Thompson’s field goal gave the Elkers the lead back with 9:58 to play.

Eighteen seconds later, however, Cavallari was in the end zone putting the Falcons back on top for good.

Wagner paced Coudersport with 14 carries for 82 yards and two catches for 14 yards, while David Babcock added 11 carries for 54 yards.

Kyle Huber was 15-for-23 passing for 105 yards for Ridgway, while Iorfido carried the ball 16 times for 46 yards and caught two passes for 13 yards. Jeremy Shirey had seven catches for 38 yards.

ST. MARYS 27, PUNXSUTAWNEY 21

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Adam Cornelio’s 82-yard kickoff return with 6:14 left in the game following a Punxsutawney touchdown lifted visiting St. Marys to a 27-21 win Friday night.

The win was the first of the season for the Dutchmen (1-5 overall, 1-3 D9 League), while Punxsutawney fell to 2-5 overall, 0-3 in the D9 League.

Punxsutawney led 6-0 early in the second quarter on a 7-yard Adam McCully run, but the Dutchmen took a 13-7 halftime lead on a 66-yard Scott Schatz run and a 1-yard run by Adam Geer.

A 37-yard run by Geer with 8:22 left in the third quarter put St. Marys ahead 21-7, but the Chucks stormed back scoring on a 49-yard run by Adam McCully to cut the lead to 21-14 at the end of three quarters.

Then with 6:30 left in the game, Dustin Dubensky tied the game on a 2-yard quarterback keeper.

Punxsutawney outgained St. Marys 356 yards to 290 and had 20 first downs to 9 for the Dutchmen, but the Chucks turned the ball over seven times including four interceptions and three lost fumbles. Steve Gaul had three interceptions for St. Marys, and Cornelio picked up the fourth one.

Geer, Cornelio and Schatz combined to rush 37 times for 295 yards for St. Marys with Geer carrying the ball 18 times for 111 yards, Cornelio 12 for 89 and Schatz seven for 95.

McCully had a huge game for Punxsutawney with 22 carries for 176 yards, while Dubensky was 5-for-15 passing for 94 yards and four interceptions while running 14 times for 68 yards.

CURWENSVILLE 59, PORT ALLEGANY 7

Curwensville – Nate and Nick Sipes combined to rush for 352 yards and five touchdowns to lead Curwensville (7-0) to a 59-7 win over visiting Port Allegany (4-3) Friday night.

Nate Sipes rushed 19 times for 229 yards and three touchdowns, and Nick Sipes added eight carries for 123 yards and two scores.

Curwensville, which has won 10 straight games dating back to last season, the longest overall winning streak in District 9, led 36-0 at halftime thanks to scoring runs of 17, 11 and 78 yards from Nate Sipes, a 28-yard Nick Sipes run and a 41-yard Shawn Sopic run.

The Golden Tide made it 51-0 at the end of three quarters on a 16-yard pass from Sopic to Dean Swatsworth and a 12-yard Nick Sipes run.

Port Allegany finally reached the scoreboard seven seconds into the fourth quarter on a 23-yard pass from Craig Flint to Adam Rohrer, but Adam Pennington’s 3-yard run for Curwensville with 3:29 left closed out the scoring.

Curwensville outgained Port Allegany 468 yards to 138 on the night including 452 to 67 on the ground.

Rohrer paced the Gators with eight carries for 44 yards, while Cody Anderson added nine totes for 20 yards and three catches for 30. Flint was 4-for-10 passing for 61 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

REDBANK VALLEY 23, MONITEAU 9

WEST SUNBURY – Skyler Smith’s 2-yard run with 2:56 left in the third quarter capped an 18-play drive at the start of the second half breaking a 9-9 halftime tie and helping Redbank Valley (5-2 overall, 4-1 KSAC) to a 23-9 win at Moniteau (4-3, 3-2) Friday night.

The Bulldogs have now won four straight after starting the year 1-2, while the Warriors have lost three in a row after starting the season 4-0.

Smith finished the game with 24 carries for 98 yards and three touchdowns, while Brandon Johnston added five totes for 74 yards. Smith also added one catch for 24 yards.

Matt Schandelmeier led Moniteau with 16 carries for 105 yards and one touchdown.

Redbank Valley led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 1-yard run by Smith.

Brock Shaffer’s 30-yard field goal 55 seconds into the second quarter pushed the Bulldog lead to 9-0, but Moniteau answered with a 41-yard Schandelmeier run and a 28-yard Adam Cousins field goal with 14 seconds left to tie the game at halftime.

After Smith’s third quarter run, Redbank Valley put the game away with two minutes left to play on a 4-yard Smith run.

KARNS CITY 42, A-C VALLEY 33

FOXBURG – Karns City built a 35-7 first-half lead and then had to hold off a big A-C Valley comeback to defeat the Falcons 42-33 Friday night in Foxburg.

Josh Fiscus paced the Gremlins (4-3 overall, 3-3 KSAC) with 271 yards rushing and three scores including runs of 7 and 25 yards in the first half helping Karns City build the 35-7 lead.

The Gremlins also got two first-half scoring tosses from Stephen Black both to older brother David – 5 and 28 yards – and a 1-yard Matt Stimac run.

Rocco Crapis had a 14-yard score for A-C Valley, and then Luiz Goncalves got the Falcons (3-4, 1-4) to within three scores with an 11-yard touchdown run as time ran out in the first half.

A 4-yard run by Colt Burk cut the Karns City lead to 35-21 in the third quarter before Fiscus stopped the bleeding with a 25-yard run.

The Falcons weren’t finished scoring on a 6-1yrad pass from Brad Rembold to Goncalves and a 59-yard Crapis run.

Goncalves finished the night with 11 carries for 114 yards, while Crapis added 155 on 16 and Burk 12 on 56.

A-C Valley hurt itself with four turnovers – three fumbles, one interception.

LAKEVIEW 39, KEYSTONE 6

STONEBORO – Danny Van Dyke ran 40 times for 308 yards and four touchdowns to lead Lakeview (5-2) to a 39-6 win over visiting Keystone (1-6) Friday night.

Keystone’s linebacker had a busy night recording 43 tackles in the game including 18 from Sam Swartzfager, 14 from Dan Irwin and 11 from Cody Colwell. Swartzfager led the offense with 70 yards rushing and a touchdown.
