SHIPPENVILLE – DuBois’ Mark Malacarne is the D9Sports.com District 9 Football Player of the week for Week 3 of the 2005 season.

He scored the final three Beaver touchdowns in the game’s last 17:39 to help expand a 21-14 lead into the 27-point blowout.

In one of the most hotly contested weeks in the six years of the award, seven players were in the final running for the honor.

The top four candidates after Malacarne were Clarion-Limestone’s Scott Davis (91.2% of C-L’s offense including 155 yards passing with 1 TD and 73 yards rushing and 1 TD. He threw the game-winning touchdown in overtime), Johnsonburg’s Calvin Grumley (Was instrumental in every aspect of the game in the Rams upset of Curwensville rushing for 45 yards and 1 TD; kicking two touchbacks on kickoffs while averaging 45 yards per punt and coming up with a potential game-saving tackle in the fourth quarter), Clarion’s Chris McSwain (200 yards rushing including 120 in the 4th quarter, 3 touchdowns. His late third quarter touchdown run sparked a 34-0 game-ending run as Clarion overcame a 20-6 deficit with 2:28 left in the third quarter) and Clearfield’s Andrew Janocko (Threw for 264 yards and engineered a 96-yard game winning drive that he capped with a 1-yard TD run with 19 seconds left. Three interceptions kept him from being Player of the Week).
