SHIPPENVILLE – Elk County Catholic’s Kevin Genevro is the D9Sports.com District 9 Football Player of the Week
for Week 4 of the 2005 season.
If you look up the word "clutch" in the dictionary, Genevro’s picture might be next to it after his performance in ECC’s 35-28 come-from-behind win over visiting Smethport Saturday night. Not only did Genevro catch four passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns including the game-winning touchdown with 1:46 to play and his team behind 28-27, he also helped set up that touchdown by recovering an on-side kick at the Smethport 30 with 2:28 to play following a Crusaders touchdown that cut a 28-21 lead to 28-27. In another week of great performances, Genevro had stiff competition throughout District 9 including from Coudersport’s David Babcock (289 yards rushing, 3 TD’s), Clarion’s Manny Carpin (142 yards receiving, 3 TD’s, 1 INT on defense) and Clarion-Limestone’s Scott Davis (183 yards passing, 3 TD’s, 44 yards rushing, 1 TD). Babcock, Carpin and Davis are joined by 12 additional players on the District 9 Honor Roll this week. The honor roll recipients are listed below in alphabetical order by school. Genevro is the second ECC player to win the award this year (Kyle Mahoney won in Week 2) and the second player from ECC to win the award in the six years of D9Sports.com. D9Sports.Com is an entirely volunteer web site in its sixth year of covering athletics within the PIAA’s District 9 located at www.d9sports.com. The site is not affiliated with the PIAA in any way. For more information on the site, please visit it or e-mail the staff at d9sportscom@hotmail.com. The Player of the Week award and the Honor Roll are chosen by D9Sports.Com’s editors. The awards, which are given from Week One through Week Nine, are the only weekly awards given out in the District that represent the district as a whole. Honor roll members are listed alphabetically by school.
