SHIPPENVILLE – Clarion’s Chris McSwain is the D9Sports.com District 9 Football Player of the Week for Week 7 of
the 2005 season.
McSwain helped lead the Bobcats (6-1) past previously unbeaten Clarion-Limestone (6-1) 41-6 by rushing 31 times for 188 yards and two touchdowns and also returning a partially blocked punt 15 yards for a third touchdown. He also played a key role on Clarion’s defense that limited C-L, which played a majority of the game without Scott Davis, to just 166 yards of offense. The win was Clarion’s first over its cross-town rival since 2000. On the year, McSwain has rushed for 905 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season ranking him fifth in District 9 despite not playing one game on offense. In his career, he has 2,757 yards and 30 touchdowns. It is the second time in his career that McSwain has won Player of the Week also earning the award in Week 5 last season when he was co-Player of the Week with Curwensville's Nate Sipes. McSwain had strong competition for Player of the Week from Kane’s Kyle Oakes (189 yards rushing, 3 touchdowns), Redbank Valley’s Skyler Smith (113 yards rushing, 3 touchdowns, returned a punt for a touchdown) and St. Marys’ Lucas Wendel (158 yards passing, 4 touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown).
