BRADFORD – Clearfield’s Lucas Aughenbaugh’s 10-yard touchdown run in the second overtime coupled with the Bison defense stopping Bradford on four downs after the score helped Clearfield to a season-opening 28-21 two overtime win over rival Bradford Friday in Bradford.

The game was tied at 14 at the end of regulation setting up the overtime.

Bradford got the ball first in the opening extra session and scored on a 10-yard Ben Walter quarterback keeper on the first play.

Clearfield wasted no time retying the score getting a 10-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Janocko to Matt Morgan on the Bisons first play from scrimmage setting up the second extra session.

Clearfield seemed to have the game in control late in regulation after it came up with a defensive stand deep in its own territory that saw Bradford move to the Bison 5-yard line trailing 14-7. Clearfield’s Morgan stopped the drive with an interception with 5:01 to play.

But Clearfield, went to the air and stopped the clock giving Bradford the ball back at its own 16 with under four minutes to play.

At that point, E.J. Moore broke a couple of tackle and went 84 yards for the game tying touchdown on a counter crisscross with 3:30 to play.

Bradford then had chance to win in regulation when Nick Foster picked off a Janocko pass setting the Owls up at the Clearfield 33.

But Clearfield’s defense stopped Bradford cold forcing the overtime.

Clearfield scored first in the opening quarter on a 1-yard run by Shane Davis with 58 seconds left in the first quarter. The Bison made three fourth-down conversions on the drive.

Bradford tied the game late in the first half driving 78 yards in less than 30 seconds scoring on a 13-yard Walter run.

Josh Holleran had the big run of the drive a 42 yarder from his own 22 that coupled with two penalties totaling 28 yards on Clearfield on the play put the ball at the Bison 14.

The score remained tied at 7 until the fourth quarter when Clearfield drove 95 yards to take a 14-7 lead on a 32-yard run by Aughenbaugh with 8:32 left to play.

Moore led the way for Bradford with four carries for 83 yards and a touchdown. Taylor O’Brien added 66 yards, Holleran had 61 and Walter 45 and two scores.

Garret McEwen had 20 tackles for Bradford and Holleran and Bob Colts each had 10.
