NEW BETHLEHEM – Brandon Doverspike threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more touchdowns to lead Redbank Valley to an easy 61-6 win over Union Friday night at Redbank Valley. The loss was the 23rd in a row for Union (0-2 overall, 0-2 KSAC). Doverspike was 5-for-6 passing for 115 yards and three touchdowns, while running five times for 29 yards and two scores. He had a hand in each of Redbank Valley’s first four touchdowns and five of the first six, as the Bulldogs (2-0, 2-0) built a 47-0 lead late in the first half. In the first quarter he hit Nick Johnston with a 15-yard pass to make it 6-0 with 9:11 left in the quarter and then less than two minutes later hooked up with Skyler Smith on a 51-yard scoring strike to make it 13-0. Late in the quarter he scored on a 21-yard run making it 19-0 going to the second period. Less than two minutes into the second, Doverspike then hit Johnston with a 48-yard scoring strike to make it 26-0. A couple of minutes later, Mike Booher returned an interception 54 yard giving the Bulldogs a 33-0 advantage, and then Doverspike scored on a 1-yard plunge to make it 40-0. Skyler Smith’s 78-yard run with just over a minute left in the half made it 47-0, but Union got its first touchdown of the season on a 56-yard run by Colton Davis with eight seconds left in the half. Davis finished the night with 21 carries for 136 yards and the score. Redbank Valley finished off the scoring with two more touchdowns in the third quarter with the clock running thanks to the Mercy Rule. The first second-half score came on a 13-yard Jake Smith run. Jake Smith then hooked up with Jerrett Magagnotti on a 38-yard pass to close out the scoring. Redbank Valley outgained Union 415 to 147 on the night. Skyler Smith had 124 yards rushing on just eight carries, his second straight 100-yard performance this season. He also had the one catch for 51 yards. Magagnotti added five carries for 53 yards.
