BROCKWAY – Anthony Varischetti hit Ben Donlin with a 41-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-21 with 1:20 to play leading Brockway to a 12-7 win over visiting Redbank Valley in a District 9 Class AA semifinal game Saturday night.

Varischetti then sealed the win on defense when he intercepted a Brandon Doverspike pass at the Brockway 5-yard line with time running down.

"We were fortunate," Brockway head coach Ray Reckner told Don Harris of the DuBois Courier-Express. "After all, how many plays do you really have for a fourth-and-twentysomething situation?"

The Rovers (7-3), who will face Moniteau at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium, trailed Redbank Valley (5-5) 7-6 when they got the ball back at their own 18-yard line with under six minutes to play. But 12 plays later, Brockway had the lead and was headed to its first D9 title game since winning the second of back-to-back titles in 2003.

Brockway led 6-0 early on when Varischetti hit Erik Johnson with a 6-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-goal play with 8:29 left in the first quarter.

Redbank Valley answered right back with a six-play, 57-yard drive that was capped by a Nick Magagnotti 5-yard run with 5:21 to play in the quarter to take a 7-6 lead.

Skyler Smith led Redbank Valley with 19 carries for 120 yards and two catches for seven. Doverspike was 6 of 16 passing for 36 yards and the one interception, while Nick Johnston had four catches for 29 yards.

Donlin ran 18 times for 55 yards and caught two passes for 52 yards and the score for the Rovers, while Varischetti was 6 of 14 passing for 127 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Dillon Park added one catch for 55 yards and four carries for 31.

NOTES – Brockway is making its seventh trip to the District 9 championship game. The Rovers are 3-3 in those games and will be facing a Moniteau team that is making its first-ever trip to a finals … This is the sixth straight year Brockway has had at least seven wins.
