SMETHPORT 28, SHEFFIELD 19

SHEFFIELD – Josh Switzer rushed 27 times for 207 yards, caught one pass for 34 yards and scored four touchdowns and a 2-point conversion to lead Smethport (1-2 overall, 1-2 AML North) to a 28-19 win at Sheffield (0-3,0-3) Saturday afternoon.

BROCKWAY 25, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 13

ST. MARYS – Brockway created a 5-way tie for first place in the AML South after three weeks with a 25-13 win over Elk County Catholic Saturday night in St. Marys.

Ben Donlin rushed 38 times for 227 yards and two touchdowns to lead Brockway, which rushed 70 times for 334 yards. Donlin also caught one pass for 14 yards.

Andy Fremer added 12 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown, while Adam Burkett added a late score for the Rovers (2-1 overall, 2-1 AML South).

ECC (2-1, 2-1) managed just 179 yards of offense, and Brockway held last week’s D9Sports.com District 9 Player of the Week Kyle Mahoney to 4-for-16 for 51 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Anthony Mastrogiacomo rushed seven times for 68 yards and touchdown to lead ECC.

BRADFORD 37, PUNXSUTAWNEY 20

BRADFORD – Offensive lineman Garrett McEwen, playing running back in the goal line offense, scored three touchdowns to lead Bradford to a 37-20 D9 League win over Punxsutawney Friday night at Bradford.

McEwen got seven carries and managed just 15 yards but his three touchdowns helped Bradford (1-2 overall, 1-1 D9 League) avoid a third straight double overtime contest. McEwen set up one of his touchdowns when he blocked a Punxsutawney punt in the first half giving Bradford the ball inside the 1-yard line. McEwen also blocked a second punt that gave Bradford the ball at the Punxsy 8-yard line that set up a 22-yard Steve Butler field goal.

Josh Holleran and Morgan O’Brien also scored touchdowns for Bradford with Holleran running 12 times for 119 yards. Ben Walter was 5-for-6 passing for 71 yards with Tommy Morris catching four passes for 74 yards.

Zach Smith hit Jeremy Falgout with a 31-yard scoring pass for Punxsutawney in the first quarter before the Chucks added two fourth quarter scores against the Bradford back-up defense.

CLEARFIELD 21, INDIAN VALLEY 20

REEDSVILLE – Clearfield quarterback Andrew Janocko engineered a game-winning 96-yard drive and capped it off with a 1-yard TD run with 19 seconds left to lead the Bisons to a come-from-behind win over Indian Valley on a stormy Friday night in Reedsville.

Janocko completed 16 of 24 passes for 264 yards and three interceptions. Beau Ryan had 119 of those yards receiving on nine catches. Running back Curtis Campman, filling in for an injured Lucas Aughenbaugh, had a huge night with 137 yards rushing on 24 carries with a touchdown and 91 yards receiving.

The game was delayed for 45 minutes in the third quarter because of a severe thunderstorm.

It was the 19th straight regular-season win for Clearfield (3-0).

KANE 55, RIDGWAY 7

RIDGWAY – Kyle Oakes ran 20 times for 212 yards and four touchdowns to lead Kane (2-1) to a 55-7 win over Ridgway (0-3) Friday night in Ridgway. Paul Eastman also caught two touchdown passes from Zach Anderson, and the Wolves defense limited Ridgway to 12 total yards.

Ridgway actually led 7-0 thanks to a big special teams play. Troy Betts blocked an Anderson punt, and Nick Dickant returned the ball to the Kane 4. Three plays later, Ben Oknefski took an option pitch into the end zone from three yards out.

A long kickoff return by Oakes to the Ridgway 46 set up an 8-yard Oakes touchdown to tie the game.

Oakes then gave Kane the lead for good on a 30-yard scoring run before helping the Wolves make it 21-7 with 1:25 left in the half on a 1-yard scoring run.

Kane’s Micky Fisher then forced a fumble late in the half that was recovered at the Ridgway 31. Anderson then hit Eastman with a 9-yard pass in the end zone with eight second left in the half making it 28-7.

Anderson finished 9 of 15 for 89 yards and two touchdowns, while Eastman had five catches for 61 yards and two scores. John Bizzak had two catches for 52 yards.

Ridgway had just eight total yards of offense including negative 11 rushing while running just 32 total plays.

CAMERON COUNTY 41, OTTO-ELDRED 10

EMPORIUM – Cameron County ended its 17-game losing streak with a 41-10 win at home over Otto-Eldred Friday night.

The Red Raiders (1-2) last won a game 735 days ago (Sept. 12, 2003) when they beat Elk County Catholic 12-6.

Cameron County used a big second half, in particular a big fourth quarter, to get the blow out win.

The Red Raiders led 14-10 at halftime and extended the lead to 20-10 at the end of three quarters before the wheels fell off for Otto-Eldred (1-2).

John Malizia’s 11-yard run late in the first half gave Cameron the lead for good, and Cash Grimone had two touchdown runs in the first three quarters.

Eric Freer had a 32-yard field goal for Otto-Eldred, and Chad Bova had a 3-yard scoring run.

Bova ran 13 times for 31 yards for the Terrors, while Robbie Root ran 11 times for 48 yards. Travis Bair was 4-for-20 passing for 126 yards and three interceptions. Corey Brown had three catches for 87 yards.

Malizia ran 15 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns while interception a pass on defense, and Grimone ran eight times for 112 yards and two scores.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 24, KARNS CITY 16, Overtime

STRATTANVILLE – Scott Davis’ 8-yard touchdown pass to Kaleb Klosky on Clarion-Limestone’s first possession of overtime coupled with the Lions defense keeping Karns City out of the end zone on their possession lifted C-L to a 24-16 win over the Gremlins in the home opener for the Lions.

C-L (3-0 overall, 3-0 KSAC) led 16-0 after just eight minutes of play thanks to 3-yard run by David Brooks and a 14-yard run by Davis.

But Karns City (1-2, 0-1) cut the lead to 16-2 at halftime when Joey Everetts tackles Justin Murray in the end zone for a safety.

Then in the third quarter, Stephen Black hit Justin Switzer with a 73-yard touchdown pass to make it 16-9.

With just 4:42 left in regulation, Karns City capped a 19-play, 80-yard drive on a 6-yard touchdown run by Brett Green to tie the game at 16.

C-L had a chance to win the game late in regulation, but a bad snap prevented a 33-yard field goal attempt by Davis.

Davis accounted for 91.2 percent of C-L’s offense (228 yards) in the game including 22 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown and 18 of 27 passing for 155 yards and a touchdown.

Klosky had seven catches for 77 yards and the game-wining touchdown.

Black was7 of 17 for 147 yards, 1 touchdown and three picks. Switzer caught two passes for 83 yards. 

KEYSTONE 40, UNION 6

RIMERSBURG – Mike Switzer passed for 103 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 96 yards and a score to lead Keystone (1-2 overall, 1-2 KSAC) to its first win over the year 40-6 over Union (0-3, 0-2), which has lost 24 straight games, at Union.

A 20-point second quarter helped the Panthers expand a 7-0 lead into a 27-0 halftime advantage.

Alex Rowan caught four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns (34 and 36 yards), while intercepting two passes on defense for Keystone, while Dustin Swartfager ran 17 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Kyle McMunn added three catches for 22 yards.

Keystone also scored when Justin Bifano recovered a blocked punt by Adam Dechant in the end zone. Bifano had 11 tackles and an interception on defense.

Colby Davis scored Union’s lone touchdown on a 51-yard run. The freshman finished with nine carries for 106 yards, while Colton Davis had 13 carries for 84 yards. Brett Moore caught two passes for 29 yards, and Nate Botz had 13 tackles.

MONITEAU 48, A-C VALLEY 7

FOXBURG – After two heartbreaking loses, Moniteau finally got a win Friday night waltzing past A-C Valley 48-7 at A-C Valley.

The Warriors (1-2 overall, 1-1 KSAC) broke a 7-7 tie after one quarter by scoring 41 points in the middle two frames.

Matt Schandelmeier had a monster night for Moniteau rushing 19 times for 245 yards and three touchdowns.

Adam Cousins added seven totes for 61 yards and two touchdowns, while Travis Shaffer returned an interceptions 17 yards for a score and Ryan Protzman scored on a 12-yard run.

Mark Hart scored A-C Valley’s first touchdown of the season on a 98-yard kickoff return in the first quarter, but the Falcon offense still hasn’t scored this season in 12 quarters. Going back to last season, A-C Valley’s offense has been shut out in five straight games and 20 straight quarters not scoring since the fourth quarter of a 42-33 loss to Karns City Oct. 15, 2004.

Rocco Crapis did rush 16 times for 70 yards for A-C Valley (0-3, 0-3) while Brad Rembold was 8 of 14 passing for 57 yards. Hank Heeter caught all eight passes.

WEST MIDDLESEX 14, REDBANK VALLEY 13

WEST MIDDLESEX – Missed opportunities cost Redbank Valley its first loss of the season in a 14-13 non-conference setback at West Middlesex Friday night.

The Bulldogs missed an extra point, had a pass intercepted in West Middlesex territory with about six minutes to play and had an offside penalty on defense on a third-and-5 play with about three minutes left that gave West Middlesex a first down while allowing the Big Red to run out the clock.

Skyler Smith was limited to 76 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, while Brandon Doverspike was 6-for-13 for 71 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The touchdown went to Nick Johnston. Jake Smith was 2-for-4 passing for 42 yards and an interception, while Johnston caught two passes for 68 yards and Skyler Smith four for 23.
