BELLEFONTE 40, CLEARFIELD 34, 2 OVERTIMES

BELLEFONTE – Chris Snare’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Zach Robbins in the second overtime lifted Bellefonte to a dramatic 40-34 win over visiting Clearfield Friday night.

With the loss, Clearfield's District 9-leading 19-game regular-season win streak came to an end. The longest win streak in the regular season in District 9 now falls to Clarion with six straight.

The game was tied at 27 at the end of regulation, and both teams scored in the first overtime to knot the contest at 34.

In the second overtime, Clearfield’s Lucas Aughenbaugh fumbled the ball on the Bison possession setting up Snare’s game-winning toss.

The loss spoiled a great comeback for Clearfield (3-1), which trailed 27-13 early in the fourth quarter.

The Bisons tied the game on a 41-yard scoring pass from Andrew Janocko to Doug Kephart on a fourth-and-6 play with 2:52 left in regulation.

Janocko finished the game 18 of 29 for 152 yards and three touchdowns, while Curtis Campman had 19 carries for 83 yards and a score while adding a touchdown receiving.

It was the second double overtime game for Clearfield, which beat Bradford in two overtimes in Week One, and the third double overtime game involving District 9 teams this season.

ST. MARYS 33, BROOKVILLE 7

ST. MARYS – A week after blowing a 20-6 lead late in the third quarter, St. Marys reacted in a positive way blowing away Brookville 33-7 in the D9 League opener for the Dutch Friday night.

For the fourth straight game, St. Marys (2-2 overall, 1-0 D9 League) led at halftime (13-7), but for the first time this season the Dutch shut an opponent out in the second half outscoring Brookville (1-3, 0-3) 20-0 in the second half including 13-0 in the fourth quarter. Going into the game, St. Marys had been outscored 60-7 in the second half this season including 40-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Dutchmen used a balanced attack in getting the win running for 200 yards and passing for 222.

Lucas Wendel, who scored a rushing touchdown, was 13 of 16 passing for 222 yards with Shad Boschert catching seven passes for 140 yards. It was Boschert’s second straight 100-yard receiving night, and he now has 13 catches for 311 yards on the season despite not catching a pass in Week One.

Scott Schatz led the ground game with nine carries for 77 yards and one touchdown, Brian Tamburlin added 10 carries for 69 yards and two scores and Adam Cornelio toted the ball 14 times for 45 yards and a score.

Silas Wonderling scored Brookville’s lone touchdown, while Travis Diener ran six times for 46 yards to pace the Raiders, who used 11 ball carrier to gain 145 yards on the ground.

The win was St. Marys’ first against Brookville since a 22-12 victory in 2001.

JOHNSONBURG 19, CAMERON COUNTY 7

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg avoided too much of a let down after Week 3’s upset of Curwensville holding off Cameron County 19-7 Friday night in Johnsonburg.

The Rams led 19-0 until Cameron broke up the shutout bid with a touchdown pass from Jordan Crane to Cameron Clinger of 20 yards with 54 seconds left to play.

T.S. Launer scored two touchdowns for Johnsonburg including a 13-yard pass from Anthony Imbrogno and a 3-yard run. All 19 of the Rams points came in the first half including 13 in the first quarter.

Calvin Grumley scored the Rams other touchdown and finished with 88 yards rushing on just three carries including a 75-yard run for the score. Launer ran 16 times for 70 yards.

Nick Malize led Cameron with eight carries for 82 yards, while Crane was 6 of 14 for 86 yards and the touchdown.

Cameron County played without leading rusher Cash Grimone, who missed the game with an injury.

INDIAN VALLEY 14, PUNXSUTAWNEY 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Punxsutawney failed to capitalize four times inside the Indian Valley 30-yard line and came away with a 14-0 loss to the Warriors in a MAC-Seven Mountain Division game Friday night in Punxsutawney.

On two of the missed opportunities, the Chucks (0-4 overall, 0-2 MACSD) had the ball inside the Indian Valley (2-2, 1-1) 20-yard line.

Indian Valley took an unusual 2-0 lead when Punxsy punter Mike Smiley was forced into his own end zone on a punt attempt.

The Warriors then made it 8-0 on a 3-yard run by quarterback Anthony Trutt.

Nam Shartzer, who ran 18 times for 74 yards, closed out the scoring in the second quarter when he scored on a 5-yard run following an interception of a Zach Smith pass.

Punxsutawney, meanwhile, finished with negative yards rushing (Austin Furman led the way with 9 carries for 28 yards), but the Smith was 14 of 32 passing for 211 yards and three interceptions. Smiley led the receiving corps with 89 yards.

PORT ALLEGANY 26, BROCKWAY 22

BROCKWAY – Willie Bova hit Bobby Nichols with a 13-yard touchdown pass with only 28 seconds left to lift Port Allegany (3-1) to a stunning 26-22 win at Brockway Friday night in an AML interdivisional showdown.

The scoring pass capped a 12-play, 69-yard drive that took just 2:15.

Brockway (2-2) led 14-13 at halftime thanks to two touchdown runs by Ben Donlin (5 yards and 8 yards) including one with only 3:23 left in the first half. 

Port (3-1) scored on a 3-yard Cody Anderson run and a 50-yard Nichols run in the second quarter.

The Gators then took a 19-14 lead in the third quarter on a 3-yard Anderson run before Brockway went back ahead 22-19 on a 5-yard pass from Anthony Varischetti to Donlin with 1:21 left in the quarter.

Nichols led all runners with 15 carries for 118 yards and a score while also catching one pass for 13 yards and the touchdown. Anderson added 99 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 25 carries while catching two passes for 22 yards. Bova was 8 of 15 passing for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Donlin led Brockway with 25 carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns while catching four passes for 58 yards and a score. 

CURWENSVILLE 50, SHEFFIELD 14

CURWENSVILLE – A week after having its 14-game regular-season win streak ended by Johnsonburg, Curwensville (3-1) rebounded with a 50-14 thumping of visiting Sheffield (0-4) Friday night.

Nick Sipes ran 19 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Golden Tide, while Brandon Hess had an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 15-yard touchdown run.

The Golden Tide used a 22-7 second quarter to build a 30-7 halftime lead and never looked back.

Jordan Copley was 10 of 16 passing for 151 yards and two interceptions for Sheffield with Jason Borst catching seven passes for 130 yards.

DUBOIS 21, HOLLIDAYSBURG 6

HOLLIDAYSBURG – DuBois ran its record to 4-0 for the first time since 1996 with a 21-6 win at Hollidaysburg Friday night. It was the Beavers first win against the Golden Tigers since 1997.

Mark Malacarne ran for 95 yards and a touchdown, while Ryan Liddle was 7 of 11 passing for 75 yards while rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown. Adam Lawrence added nine carries for 89 yards, while Robbie Hanzely also scored a touchdown for DuBois.

Hollidaysburg’s lone score came on an 89-yard kickoff return in the first half by Jared Colmer.

DuBois outgained Hollidaysburg 344 yards to 151.

OTTO-ELDRED 45, RIDGWAY 13

DUKE CENTER – Eric Freer ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries while also interception two passes and recovering a fumble to help lead Otto-Eldred (2-2) to a 45-13 win at home over Ridgway (0-4) Friday night.

Travis Bair was 8 of 9 passing for 192 yards and two touchdowns while running for five yards and a score for the Terrors.

Cory Brown caught five passes for 166 yards and a touchdown, while Robbie Root and Chad Bova also added offensive scores. Paul Platko had a blocked punt for a touchdown.

Adam Handley scored both of Ridgway's touchdowns including a 3-yard run and a 60-yard fumble recovery.

Jake Havens ran 14 times for 85 yards to lead the Elkers.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 27, BRADFORD 16

STRATTANVILLE – Scott Davis was 13-for-21 passing for 183 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while running 19 times for 44 yards and a score to lead Clarion-Limestone (4-0) to a 27-16 win over visiting Bradford (1-3) Friday night.

Tuffy Brooks was Davis main target catching nine passes for 144 yards and two scores, while Kaleb Klosky added two catches for 36 yards and a touchdown.

Neil Reynolds had 12 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery on defense.

Taylor O’Brien ran 11 times for 91 yards to lead Bradford, while Nick Johnson had 10 totes for 59 yards and a score. Dan McMurtie also added a touchdown.

C-L has now won 38 of its past 39 regular-season games.

KARNS CITY 14, KEYSTONE 13

KARNS CITY – Keystone and Karns City turned in a fourth quarter for the ages Friday night that ended when Keystone missed an extra point with two seconds left in the game allowing Karns City to escape with a 14-13 win over the visiting Panthers.

Karns City (2-2 overall, 1-1 KSAC) had taken a 14-7 lead on a 3-yard Wayne Harris run and a Matt McConnell extra points with 38 seconds left in the game before Keystone (1-3, 1-3) answered with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Justin Bifano to Mike Switzer with two seconds left to cut the lead to one point. Keystone elected to go for the tie, but the point after attempt was no good.

All of the games scoring came in the fourth quarter. Harris opened the scoring with a 13-yard run with 9:32 left in the game.

Keystone answered with a 4-yard Bifano run with 3:36 left to play. Alex Rowan’s extra point tied the game at 7-7.

The Panthers outgained Karns City 243 yards to 162 including 78-0 through the air.

Harris ran for 68 yards and the two touchdowns on 18 carries to lead Karns City. Stephen Black was 0-for-8 passing with an interception

Derek Swartfager ran 25 times for 130 yards for Keystone, while Switzer was 1 of 10 passing for zero yards and two interceptions before being replaced by Bifano who went 5 of 6 fro 78 yards and the touchdown. Switzer caught three passes for 68 yards and the score. Bifano ran three times for 22 yards and a touchdown.

MONITEAU 40, UNION 0

WEST SUNBURY – Matt Schandelmeier ran 10 times for 161 yards and four touchdowns to lead Moniteau (2-2 overall, 2-1 KSAC) to a 40-0 win over visiting Union Friday night.

Colby Davis led Union (0-4, 0-4) with nine carries for 97 yards. It was the Golden Knights 25th straight defeat.

Ryan Protzman added a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown for Moniteau, while Adam Cousins scored on a 13-yard run. Cousins finished with seven carries for 64 yards.

Colton Davis added 11 carries for 60 yards for Union. 

CONNEAUT LAKE 12, A-C VALLEY 0

CONNEAUT LAKE – A-C Valley’s offensive woes continued Friday night in a 12-0 loss to homestanding Conneaut Lake.

Despite having the football inside the Lakers 10-yard line four times in the game, the Falcons (0-4) were not able to get into the end zone. A-C Valley has not scored an offensive touchdown in 24 consecutive quarters dating back to last year and has seven total points in four games this season (the points came on a kickoff return).

Brad Rembold was 7 of 23 passing for 122 yards for A-C Valley, while Hank Heeter caught five passes for 95 yards. Rocco Crapis had 24 carries for 69 yards.

Jusatin Gibbons rushed 30 times for 139 yards for Conneaut Lake and a touchdown , while Kory Hubbard carried 12 times for 64 yard and a score. The Lakers led 6-0 at halftime before adding a fourth quarter score.
